“HAUNTED” – “Ghost Face” Appears For Real In Horror Film! :)

Steven M. Smith’s Greenway Entertainment got the shock of their lives when they reviewed the rushes for their latest feature film HAUNTED.

A “GHOST FACE” appears for real, scaring the life out of one of the paranormal investigators.

Steven M. Smith said, “We couldn’t believe it! There it was and it was real, a man’s face looking in through the window to the underground train, impossible, as the train was in a building on a six foot high stand 10 foot off the ground!”

Freddie Fuller (The investigator who witnessed the Ghost Face up close) said, “I was in there (underground train) for less then a minute on my own and then there it was…I just legged it and screamed like a girl, which I am not proud of…”

Side Effects - UK Blu-Ray/DVD review

"Side Effects" is out now on DVD and Blu-Ray and was asked to give the discs the once over.

The film stars Rooney Mara (Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) as Emily Taylor, a depressed housewife who's been put under the care of Psychiatrist Johnathon Banks (Jude Law - Contagion), following a failed suicide attempt.

Having tried various anti-depressants without success, he suggests a new trial drug that's just come out on the market, Ablixa. Unfortunately, when she stabs her husband to death in a drug induced sleepwalking state, he finds his otherwise unblemished career suddenly dragged through the mud.

As her actions were deemed to be a side effect of the drugs she was on, she's sent to a psychiatric hospital, rather than prison. But with his career in medicine suddenly in tatters, Dr Banks decides to do a little digging to find out what went wrong and begins to suspect that she and her previous psychologist Dr Siebert (played by Catherine Zeta Jones - Red 2) are involved in an elaborate scam.

The film is not really a horror, but a very well made psychological thriller. You're never really too sure whether Jude Law's character is actually onto something, or whether he's so desparate to clear his name, that he's clutching at conspiracy theories.

Overall, I quite enjoyed it. If you're into Hitchcock style thrillers, this one should appeal.

The screener I was sent was devoid of extras and there's no news on what additional features might be included on the disc (if any). But if you're not worried about supplemental material, then I'd definitely advise picking this one up.

"Side Effects" is out now on DVD and Blu-Ray from eOne entertainment.

From the makers of "The Zombie Diaries" comes a brand new British horror, "The Paranormal Diaries : Clophill", which will be making its debut at this years Frightfest in London, ahead of its DVD release.

In 1963, a black mass was held within the ruins of a church in the small English village of Clophill. During which, tombs were desecrated and animals were sacrificed.

Fifty years on, following numerous reports of strange apparitions ever since that ceremony, a film crew assembled to interview witnesses and set up camp within the church ruins. During the night, they hoped to capture some kind fo paranormal presence on camera.

Nothing however could have prepared them for the terrifying scenes they were about to witness or the harrowing events that followed.

The film is premiering at Frightfest, then will be released to DVD October 14th by Second Sight films, in time for Halloween.

Extras on the disc include...
Audio commentary with the writer and director.

"Dressed to Kill" - UK Blu-Ray review.

Brian DePalma’s cult classic “Dressed to Kill” will be making its UK Blu-Ray debut this July courtesy of Arrow films, who were kind enough to provide me with a review copy to take a look at.

The film stars Angie Dickinson as a sexually frustrated housewife, Kate Miller, who makes up for her husbands shortcomings (so to speak) by picking up strangers in art galleries. But after leaving the apartment of her latest conquest, she is brutally murdered by a mysterious blonde haired woman.

Her psychiatrist, Dr Elliot (played by veteran actor Michael Caine), believes it to be a fellow patient of his, a transgendered man named Bobby, who he’d refused a sex change operation to.

But with the only witness to the attack being a high class call girl, Liz (Nancy Allen – Robocop, Carrie), the police suspect her instead. And with the killer now stalking her and the police not believing her, she finds herself struggling to clear her name before she becomes his next victim.

Also starring Dennis Franz (TVs “Hill Street Blues”) as Detective Marino and Keith Gordon (Carrie) as Kate’s son Peter, this is one of DePalmas best loved films, which was highly controversial on its release owing to its lurid mix of sex and violence.

The film benefits from a good cast, including British veteran Michael Cane, who puts in a commendable performance as always and Angie Dickinson, who has a couple of interesting nude scenes. Which reminds me, she must have been almost 50 when she filmed this, but still looked incredibly fit for her age.

This Blu-Ray release is of the fully uncut, unrated version of the film and as with all arrow releases, comes packed with a whole host of special features.

First off, there’s a series of interview features.

-Dressed in White (with Angie Dickinson)
-Dressed in Purple (with Nancy Allen)
-Lessons in Film making (with Keith Gordon)

In which the cast discuss their roles in the film.

Then there’s a selection of making of features…

-Symphony of Fear, in which producer George Litto discusses his work with Brian DePalma and
-Making of a Thriller, which is a 45 minute making of documentary, featuring interviews with Brian DePalma, George Litto and stars Angie Dickinson, Nancy Allen, Keith Gordon, Dennis Franz, and…
-Slashing Dressed to Kill, in which the director and cast discuss the many scenes that had to be cut to avoid an X rating in the US.

Also included is…

-Unrated and R rated comparison feature, which is a side by side comparison of the cut and uncut scenes along with the recut footage used in the US TV version.
-Theatrical trailer, and…
-Stills gallery, comprised of many rare behind the scenes photos.

In addition, the case also contains a special collectors booklet, featuring linear notes on the film by critic and author Maitland McDonagh and the sleeve comes with reversible artwork.

The film is released on Blu-Ray on Monday the 29th of July from Arrow films.

Facility 31 promises underground chills....

Producer Mark Kenna of Bad Blood films recently got in touch to tell us about his new film "Facility 31" which is currently in production.

The story revolves around a group of military prisoners who are tasked with cleaning a remote, dilapidated military bunker. One of the prisoners is a dishonored medical doctor named Rosie, she thinks her worst nightmares have come true when the officer in charge is the same person who court martialled her.

But when a power surge hits the facility, a lockdown traps them inside. With this and the disappearance of another prisoner, comes the sinking realisation that there is something sinister in the depths of the facility and all is not what it seems… -

The script has been written by director David Hawk, a lifelong fan of the horror genre, who actually secured the filming location for the story, which is at a genuine disused military bunker. The Worlds End - Thoughts and Musings....

"The World's End", the new horror comedy from the people who gave us "Shaun of the Dead" is out at UK cinemas TODAY (Friday) and I managed to catch a special Midnight screening on Thursday night.

The film revolves around a 30 something delinquent, Gary King (Simon Pegg), who never really moved on with his life since leaving school. He returns to his home town with some of his former school friends to do a legendary pub crawl, called "The Golden Mile", which involves drinking a round in each of the towns 12 pubs in one evening, something they tried, but failed, to do once before during their misspent youth.

But it isn't too long before they realise their old home town isn't quite what it seems and fairly soon, the group find themselves running for their lives. But despite all this, Gary is still determined to finish the Golden Mile pub crawl and reach the Worlds End pub, even if it kills them (which it probably will).

Don't want to give too much of the plot away, but think "Shaun of the Dead" crossed with "Invasion of the Body Snatchers". Overall I really enjoyed this one and found it to be great fun. There's a few gags they've carried over from their previous films and a few familiar faces making an appearance, so if you liked "Shaun.." or "Hot Fuzz", you should love this.

Anyway, here's the trailer...

Fright Rags offering limited edition "Tarman" shirts, mask and more.

Fright-Rags is bringing Tarman - the iconic zombie from 1985's The Return of the Living Dead - back from the grave... and he's ready to party! The horror shirt specialists have teamed with Tarman creator and acclaimed artist William Stout for a line of limited edition merchandise featuring one of cinema's most beloved monsters.

Perhaps its most unique offering yet, Fright-Rags has produced a Tarman mask and shirt box set. Limited to 500 pieces, the set is inspired by the Ben Cooper and Collegeville Halloween costumes of yore. Unlike the paper-thin masks from your childhood, these modernized versions are crafted from high-density plastic. Each one is handmade and hand painted by master artist Monte Ward. Also included is a two-sided Tarman shirt designed by William Stout. They come packaged in a collector's box.

In addition to the box set, Fright-Rags is also offering an 18x24 screen printed poster of Stout's design. They are limited to only 200, and each one is hand numbered. Last but certainly not least is a new Tarman shirt created by Justin Osbourn. This nostalgic design will be available on unisex T-shirts, girls shirts, hoodies and 3/4 sleeve baseball tees.

These items will be available exclusively on
Fright-Rags.com for four days only. Pre-orders begin on Thursday, July 11th at 10 am EST and will end on Monday, July 15th promptly at 10 am EST. Due to the limited quantities, the box set and poster may sell out early. Act fast, because like a good brain, these will be devoured quickly!

Crystal Lake Memories - US Blu-Ray available for Pre-Order.

Panic Productions and Hutson Ranch Media have launched pre-orders for "Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th" on its official website. The documentary, inspired by Peter M. Bracke’s bestselling book of the same name, promises to be the definitive retrospective on the long-running Friday the 13th franchise.

The three-disc Blu-ray/DVD combo pack showcases the extensive feature, which runs approximately 420 minutes. When purchased through the website, buyers will also receive a bonus DVD with nearly 4 hours of extended interview material. The film will be officially released on August 27, 2013 via 1428 Films with a list price of $29.95.

Corey Feldman (star of Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter) narrates Crystal Lake Memories, which features interviews with approximately 150 cast and crew members from all twelve Friday the 13th films and the syndicated television series, many of whom have never before appeared in on-camera interviews. Interview subjects include Kane Hodder, Robert Englund, Tom Savini, Danielle Panabaker, Sean S. Cunningham, Derek Mears, Betsy Palmer, Wes Craven, Robert Shaye, Alice Cooper and many more.

Crystal Lake Memories is written and directed by Daniel Farrands and produced by Thommy Hutson, who previously teamed up for the award-winning "Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy". "As lifelong fans, we couldn't let 2013 pass us by without giving Jason his due," explains Farrands. "I hope that Crystal Lake Memories will serve as a befitting tribute to one of this generation's most iconic bogeymen."

In the 33 years since the original Friday the 13th premiered in May of 1980, the slasher franchise has grown to include twelve feature films, a television series, novels, comic books, merchandise and memorabilia. In addition to staggering box office success, the films turned Jason Voorhees and his signature hockey mask into a pop culture icon. Now fans can get an in-depth look that spans the entire history from those involved.

Dressed to Kill on UK Blu-Ray

Arrow Video is pleased to announce the UK Blu-ray debut of Brian De Palma’s erotic crime thriller DRESSED TO KILL on Monday 29th July.

One of De Palma’s best loved films, DRESSED TO KILL has been lovingly re-mastered by MGM studios, and will finally be available uncut and on blu-ray for the very first time in the UK. Arrow’s deluxe edition of the film will come loaded

Starring legendary British actor Michael Caine (The Italian Job, Harry Brown) alongside Nancy Allen (Carrie, Robocop) and Angie Dickenson (Point Blank, The Killers), DRESSED TO KILL begins as sexually frustrated housewife Kate Miller (Dickenson) consults her psychiatrist about her husband’s lacklustre performance in the bedroom.

Following the session with Dr Elliot (Caine), Kate silently seduces a stranger in a New York Art gallery, before going back to his place. Upon leaving the man’s apartment, Kate is brutally murdered in the elevator; the only witness is high-end prostitute Liz Blake (Allen), who is in-turn accused of the murder.

One of De Palma's darkest and most controversial suspense thrillers, DRESSED TO KILL was as acclaimed for its stylish set-pieces and lush Pino Donaggio score as it was condemned for its sexual explicitness and extreme violence.

Following Obsession and Blow Out, DRESSED TO KILL is the third film in Arrow Video’s De Palma Collection. Restored Blu-ray editions of Sisters, Phantom Of The Paradise and The Fury will follow in 2013/14.
