"Killer Klowns from Outer Space" - on BD, DVD & BD steelbook, 15th Sept!

In case you missed our previous news article back in July, Arrow Video is excited to announce the release of the 1988 cult classic "Killer Klowns from Outer Space", available on Blu-ray & DVD and as an exclusive Blu-ray Steelbook from 15th September.

As movie titles go, few are quite as descriptive as "Killer Klowns from Outer Space", a vivid mesh of horror, sci-fi and comedy which does exactly what it says on the tin. When a troupe of aliens who happen to resemble circus clowns park their UFO (which happens to resemble a big top tent) in small-town USA, it spells trouble for the locals. As the Killer Klowns begin kidnapping the town’s residents and turning them into sugary circus snacks, it’s up to young Debbie Stone and Mike Tobacco to save the day. If they don’t get turned into delicious cotton candy cocoons first, that is.

Directed by renowned special effects artist Stephen Chiodo and written and produced in collaboration with his brothers, Killer Klowns from Outer Space has gone on to become a cult classic 80s horror-romp which proudly wears its influences on its massive silk sleeves.

Playing colourful homage to such ’50s B-movie drive-in classics as The Blob (1958) and Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) while providing plenty of original shocks and scares itself, Killer Klowns from Outer Space is energetic, punk and every bit as funny as it is scary.

This new release comes loaded with a bumper crop of bonus features including an all-new high definition (1080p) and Standard Definition DVD presentation of the feature, transferred from original film elements by MGM. Alongside this the discs will also feature an audio commentary with the Chiodo Brothers, as well as a 20 minute making of feature looking at the film’s production, interviews with the makers of the film and behind-the-scenes footage.

New 'Arrow' releases for this October

Arrow films have just announced their October line up of horror Blu-Rays, being released in time for Halloween

First off is Giulio Paradisi's "The Visitor". The ultimate excursion into B-movie madness, this 1979 cinematic oddity from schlock producer extraordinaire Ovidio G. Assonitis, director of such deliciously guilty pleasures as Beyond the Door and Tentacles, brings together an extraordinary ensemble cast in a mind-bending tale of a girl and her pet hawk.

At first glance, Katy Collins is just like any other normal 8-year-old girl – but appearances can dangerously deceptive. As it turns out, Katy is the Earthly incarnation of an ancient evil by the name of Sateen – an intergalactic supernatural entity who was vanquished many light years ago. Katy possesses tremendous powers making her capable of great destruction – powers which some are keen to eradicate, and some to harness…

A veritable cult phenomenon thanks to its recent re-discovery, The Visitor combines stunning imagery, incredible set-pieces alongside a truly jaw-dropping cast list which includes John Huston, Mel Ferrer, Shelley Winters and Franco Nero appearing as Jesus!

The film is released in a BD and DVD combo pack and contains the following extras..

• High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) and Standard Definition DVD presentation of the feature, transferred from original film elements<
• Original Mono audio (uncompressed PCM on the Blu-ray)
• Optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing
• Interview with Star Lance Henriksen
• Interview with Screenwriter Lou Comici
• Interview with Cinematographer Ennio Guarnieri
• Reversible sleeve featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Erik Buckman
• Collector’s booklet featuring new writing on the film and more!

Next up is "The Incredible Melting Man", featuring the work of special effects legend Rick Baker.

When spacecraft Scorpio V returns to Earth following a mission to Saturn, two of the crew are dead and the third, astronaut Steve West, is in a critical condition. Critical, that is, until he rises from his hospital bed to bite chunks out of a nurse before escaping into the surrounding countryside. The authorities set about trying to track Steve down before he claims any other victims, but they don’t know the really bad news yet -  Steve is also highly radioactive!

The Incredible Melting Man offers up a wealth of show-stopping B-movie moments in its relatively modest running time – chief among them, the scene in which a disembodied head floats down a river only to smash messily on the rocks further downstream – but the real star of the show here is Baker’s ultra-icky special effects work which let you see the Melting Man’s transition in all its gooey, glistening glory.

The film is also released in a BD/DVD combo pack. Extras include

•High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) and Standard Definition DVD presentation of the feature, transferred from original film elements
• Original Mono audio (uncompressed PCM on the Blu-ray)
• Optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing
• Audio Commentary with William Sachs
• Super 8 digest version of the film
• Interview with Writer/Director William Sachs and Make-up Effects Artist Rick Baker
• Interview with Make-up Effects Artist Greg Cannom
• Reversible sleeve featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Gary Pullin
• Collector’s booklet featuring new writing on the film and more!

Lastly there's "Naked City".  Set in New York, in the middle of summer. A blonde ex-model is murdered in her bathtub and detectives Muldoon (Barry Fitzgerald) and Halloran (Don Taylor) are assigned to the case. Their investigation will lead them through the entire city, from Park Avenue to the Lower East Side, culminating in a thrilling climax atop the Williamsburg Bridge.

Inspired by the work of the infamous tabloid photographer Weegee, The Naked City was the first major Hollywood production to be shot entirely on the streets of New York, making use of more than a hundred authentic locations. Both its editing and its cinematographer would earn Academy Awards, while the film itself would be recognised by the Library of Congress as one of American cinema’s most significant motion pictures.

As with the other films, this is a BD/DVD combo pack release. Extras include...

• New high definition digital transfer of the film
• High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) and Standard Definition DVD presentation
• Original mono 1.0 audio (uncompressed PCM on the Blu-ray)
• Optional English subtitles for the deaf and hearing impaired
• Audio commentary by screenwriter Malvin Wald
• Jules Dassin at LACMA – a 40-minute interview with Bruce Goldstein in which the director discusses his career
• The Hollywood Ten – a 1950 documentary short on the ten filmmakers blacklisted from Hollywood for their refusal to name names before the House of Un-American Activities, including The Naked City’s screenwriter, Albert Maltz
• Gallery of production stills by infamous photojournalist Weegee
• Theatrical trailer
• Reversible sleeve featuring the original poster and newly commissioned artwork by Vladimir Zimakov

Girls & Corpses teams with TomCat Films to create new horror label

Girls and Corpses Magazine has entered into a partnership with TomCat Films to release a slate of original indie horror films. “Girls and Corpses Presents” will be displayed at the front of films approved for release and sanctioned as meeting the high standards of the worldwide newsstand magazine phenomenon, Girls and Corpses, founded by Robert “Corpsy” Rhine.

Following the labels created by Fangoria and Bloody-Disgusting.com, Girls and Corpses Presents will release four acquisitions a year to coincide with each quarterly issue of the printed magazine.  In addition to releasing on DVD and Blu-Ray, the company is in talks with major digital and online streaming companies to create a dedicated channel of content curated by the Girls and Corpses Team.

The Girls and Corpses Presents  label will be unveiled at this year’s AFM under the TomCat Films banner to foreign buyers. Girls and Corpses is sold on newsstands worldwide and is also translated into German, “The way is already paved internationally for the new film label,” says TomCat’s President, Ted Chalmers.

The first DVD release to be flying the Girls and Corpses banner, will be Unfiltered Entertainment’s Blood Rites, directed by Dorothy Booraem, who co-wrote the project with Producer Chad Haufschild.  The team previously collaborated on microbudget smash success, Wake The Witch. Blood Rites is a macabre treat inspired by Giallo, a terrifying genre popularized by masters such as Dario Argento and Lucio Fulci. The film will be released via DVD in December of 2014. Blood Rites will be followed up, under the Girls and Corpses Presents slats, by The Meat Puppet, directed by Joe Valenti, a terrifying yarn featuring a host of celebrity cameos such as WCW’s April Hunter.

The team will also be producing original wraparound featurettes for each title. Chalmers and Corpsy promise to deliver content that is both “salacious and horrifying,” and will feature some of today’s hottest talent co-hosting each segment. Tera Patrick, among others, is currently attached to kick off the fun. TomCat Films just wrapped filming Aliens VS Titanic and Monster-Zilla, with Atomic Shark going into production next month.

The label also plans to jointly produce one original theatrical film for the label each year. The budgets will ranges from $1.2 million to $4.6 million. The first film on the production slate will be "CYSters," a dark horror/comedy exploring pregnancy and child birth. Girls and Corpses Productions has funded and green-lit the film, from a script by R.S. Rhine. Danielle Harris who’s last film, Among Friends, was released through Lionsgate, is in talks to direct.

Girls and Corpses Productions is also funding the completion of horror film 'Two Faced' starring Tony Todd, Daniel Baldwin, Jacqui Holland and Antwon Tanner in a Johnny Kearns film. The script by Rolo Velascoe is about a ruthless gold-digger in a gruesome tale of vanity. Produced by Ken Tayloe and Jacqui Holland of Violet Sky Productions.

Monster Movies - Music Video

Mark Mallman recently got in touch to tell us about his new horror themed music video "Monster Movies".

In this, a troubled musician finds himself kidnapped and transformed into a fire breathing Medusa. Now his only hope for survival is to lead his band of disco mummies though a macabre tribute to late 70s Glam.

“The goal was to make a song that could have been a hit in 1977, like a lost single. It felt important to make a video that reflected the campy sentiment of scary drive in movies.” He says.

His music/art experiments and retro-70s style has rocked the airwaves of countless radio and media outlets, as well as being written about by Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, USA Today, Wired, NME, The Toronto Star, Chicago Sun-Times, the Denver Post and so on. Mallman continues,  "Now all I gotta do is invent a flux capacitor time machine, and start saving for a Delorean.”

"The Sleeping Room" - Frightfest premiere and publicity kickstarter.

After its recent crowdfunding success -  becoming the first feature film to equity crowdfund online* (using the Seedrs platform), ‘The Sleeping Room’ has now launched a Kickstarter campaign to build its audience and raise vital P&A funds.

Ahead of its World Premiere screening at this year’s Film4 FrightFest, Producer Gareth I Davies said today: “We’re really excited to be bringing The Sleeping Room to Kickstarter at this stage in its life.

So many films fail at the final hurdles of sales and distribution through lack of resources, and it really needn’t be that way. In this climate it’s logical that audiences should be the ones dictating which screens a film makes it out onto, both big and small.”

Director John Shackleton commented: “Retaining the spirit of independence through which this film was created, it now makes perfect sense for us to be the ones responsible for creating a really interesting campaign, attempting to engage with audiences across all platforms, before the film is released.”

The producers are considering their current distribution opportunities, with a view to releasing the film in the UK and US in early 2015.

"Werewolf Rising" - UK DVD review

Coming to UK DVD this September. Set in the backwoods of Arkansas, the film starts with some rather unsavoury character, who’s about to commit some sort of violent assault on a young woman. But before he can do anything, his “fun” is ruined by some wild animal, which bursts out of the scrub and attacks them both.

Having set the general tone, we’re then introduced to the films main character Emma (Melissa Carnell – “Humans Vs Zombies”), whos returned to her childhood home in the nearby town. There she meets her old neighbour Wayne (Bryan Berry) and his nephew Johnny Lee (Matt Kopco). Though there seems to be some strange animosity between Wayne and Johnny, which is made all the stranger when Wayne hands Emma a gun to use in case Johnny comes back.

But Johnny isn’t the one Emma needs to worry about. Seems uncle Wayne has a bit of a seedy past himself. And to top it all off, as there appears to be a werewolf on the prowl and is looking at either killing, or turning into his own kind, as many other people that he can hunt down.

Borrowing bits and pieces from “The Howling”, the film starts quite well, but then seems to slow down and doesn’t really pick up again till near the end. Whilst I thought the werewolf creature was quite effective, there just seemed to be these really long periods where not much happens, with the main focus of the film being on the developing relationship between Emma and Johnny as they become friends.

The film more or less held my interest for its duration, but suffers badly from slow pacing. Fans of low budget Werewolf films will probably enjoy it.

As for the disc itself, the DVD was bare bones and did not contain any supplemental material.

Werewolf Rising comes to UK DVD on the 8th September from Image Entertainment.

Michael Armstrong To Publish His Entire Screen Play Output

As part of his 'The Correct Perspective' campaign for screen writers to be entitled to the same rights and appraisal accorded to stage writers, genre movie legend Michael Armstrong will make history by being the first screen writer to publish his entire set of filmed and unfilmed screen plays in their original uncut texts before front office changes and including all missing scenes and dialogue, thereby enabling readers to experience the films exactly as he intended them for an audience.

Published in the same font and precise page layout of Armstrong's unique writing style, each title will be accompanied by a detailed writing history as to its sources and creative problems, front office cuts, changes and alterations, casting choices, production history and an outline of the circumstances that led to certain screen plays ending up on a screen, others being shelved, and many never actually having even been read by anyone in the industry.

Amongst them will be the genre classics: "Mark Of The Devil" with its missing end scene; his original 1960 screen play "The Dark" which he wrote at the age of fifteen and would later direct with imposed front office alterations under the title "The Haunted House Of Horror" in 1968; the portfolio trilogy "Screamtime" with all its episodes uncut and with his original unfilmed written links; "The Black Panther" with its numerous missing scenes; his original thirty minute screenplay of "The Image", the David Bowie short he directed; "Eskimo Nell" with detailed cuts and changes that took place during production plus his original draft under the working title, "The Movie Makers"; the little seen comic documentary "It Could Happen To You" and the missing short he directed, "The Hunt", together with the ill-fated "The Enchanted Orchestra", and Sex Pistols film, "A Star Is Dead", and many more; famous, infamous and unknown titles.

The first exclusive A4 hardback editions of the forty plus titles will have a strictly limited print run, black cloth cover with gold foil embossing and sewn bound pages, building over the coming months into a unique collectors' library set of Armstrong's complete written works for the cinema, with each copy signed by Armstrong himself.

Selected titles will also contain hitherto unseen stills, off-set photographs, and some of Armstrong's own full colour original art work, storyboards, set and costume designs.

The screen plays will be published by London Repertory Company to whom Armstrong has donated all royalties, with proceeds going towards their efforts to regenerate traditional repertory theatre and allied apprenticeship training in the UK.

Individual titles will be released in no particular order, starting with his 1982 multi award-winning classic, tongue-in-cheek parody of "Old Dark House" horror movies, House Of The Long Shadows, written specifically for the four great horror legends, Vincent Price, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing and John Carradine, and directed by genre favourite Pete Walker in 1983.

House Of The Long Shadows is now available.  It will be followed shortly by his 1969 unfilmed horror comedy take on 50s and 60s TV Westerns: Ghost Town.

Filming wraps on 'epic' space adventure "Aliens Vs Titanic"

Former adult star turned mainstream actress Bree Olson has competed filming with Robert "Corpsy Rhine (who plays the Captain of the Titanic) in "Aliens VS Titanic" for TOMCAT Films/Sterling Entertainment and directed by Jeff Leroy.

Offering only the finest amenities, the ‘TITAN 1C’ space-cruiser is considered the most luxurious star-liner ever built. Future spring-breakers on board are excited to be touring through space with some of the world’s elite.

When a sudden meteor storm smashes into the hull, a deadly biological alien life-form is let loose on the ship. Seeking a suitable host, the retrovirus successfully merges with some the passengers, transforming them into seemingly invincible predators with the “touch of death”. As the ship is destroyed, the surviving passengers crash on a remote planet, and they learn that one of them is “infected”. They must quickly band together before it has a chance to slaughter them all.

Robert "Corpsy" Rhine (who is also the Deaditor-In-Chief of Girls and Corpses Magazine) has starred in several movies for TomCat Films and Sterling Entertainment, including: Dracula's Sorority Sisters, Nazi Dawn, Revenge of The Snake Woman, Angel Of Darkeness: The Legend of Lillith (opposite Tera Patrick), Disaster Wars and Grand Auto Theft.

Bree Olson has gone from one of the most famous adult stars to appearing in mainstream projects such as "Live Nude Girls" and the soon to be released "The Human Centipede III"

Layla Pryce is a successful adult star most recently featured in The Huffington Post.

Aliens VS Titanic also stars: Kelly Decker, Brenton Jones, Jin N Tonic, Harlan Post and Wiliam Greer.

SLEDGE comes to US DVD and VOD.

"SLEDGE", a ‘bloody’ good horror-comedy in the tradition of Tucker and Dale vs. Evil and Shaun of the Dead, premieres in the US on VOD September 2nd and DVD on October 7th.

A spoof of the horror genre, and littered with nods and references to fright flicks of yesteryear, the film fixes on a psychopath who not only believes he’s in a movie and video game but that he’s the hero of this story.

“Sledge is a horror comedy that takes a loving poke to the horror classics we all grew up with”, says writer and co-director Kristian Hanson. “Adam Lynch is an original slasher who loves to talk and make jokes as he viciously mutilates the dumb campers who always return to a site of mass murders for no apparent reason.”

“The overall idea was to make a horror film that I would want to see. I love horror comedy and instead of having the typical brooding giant mute, I went for the funny and psychotic killer who always seems to be shorter than his victims. I wanted to pay homage to the greats like Jason, Freddy, Leatherface and Pinhead but put my own personal spin on it with my type of inappropriate humor. Adam Lynch is a slasher that brings the funny and the body count.”

SLEDGE is directed by John B Sovie II and Kristian Hanson, and stars Dustin Bowman, Stephanie Tupper, Rachel Cornell and Hanson as Adam Lynch.

"From Dusk till Dawn" the TV series comes to UK DVD

Cult-classic "From Dusk Till Dawn" comes to the small screen with bigger action, more gore and an expanded look at the film's characters as they embark on a frightening journey into the depths of the Titty Twister.

"From Dusk Till Dawn"  - Series One is centered around bank robber, Seth Gecko (DJ Cotrona "Gi Joe - Retaliation") and his violent, unpredictable brother, Richard “Richie” Gecko (Zane Holtz - "Vampires Suck"), who are wanted by the FBI and Texas Rangers Earl McGraw (Don Johnson - TVs "Miami Vice") with his deputy Freddie Gonzalez (Jesse Garcia - "Avengers Assemble") after a bank heist leaves several people dead.

While on the run to Mexico, Seth and Richie encounter former pastor Jacob Fuller (Robert Patrick - "Terminator 2") and his family, whom they take hostage. Using the family RV to cross the border, chaos ensues when the group detours to a strip club that is populated by vampires. They are forced to fight until dawn in order to get out alive.

The series deepens the tone and expands the storyline of the film, adds new characters and backstories, and explores the Mesoamerican mythology behind the creatures inside the club.

With more excitement, and a compelling back story, the show takes us up close and personal with the vicious vampires from the 1996 film and ramps up the gore and tension whilst keeping the darkly comical tone set by the Rodriguez/ Tarantino original.

"Lead Me to the Dark" - Crowdfunding campaign

Director James Twyman recently got in touch to tell us about his new vampire film "LEAD ME TO THE DARK", which is currently in production.

"LEAD ME TO THE DARK" is the story of AMY COLE, an investigative reporter whose life is turned upside down when her daughter LILY-MAE is struck with terminal cancer. Using ever resource she has she desperately tries to find something that can save her child, be it an untested drug, a new therapy... even a miracle will do.

As she searches she stumbles upon a dark and secret world that may hold the key to LILY-MAE's survival, but by the time she's done... she may wish she had let her daughter die.

The creatures that inhabit this dark culture are vampires, and not the ones we are used to in books and films. These cold super predators control everything from politics to trafficking, cultivating mankind to think they are free, making them easier to use.

They agree to turn LILY-MAE in return for the use of AMY's unique set of skills, a deal that takes AMY deeper in to the bloody, horrible and frightening world of the vampire.

The film is currently looking for funding to enable its completion, via its Crowdfunding Site.

More info on this film can be found at its official Facebook page.

"Bad Milo" comes to UK DVD this October

For over a century, Hollywood has been scaring audiences around the world with its terrifying monsters…but none as terrifyingly funny as BAD MILO!, available on UK DVD this October.

Duncan's (Ken Marino - "We're the Millers") life is a real pain in the ass. Tormented by a manipulative, crooked boss, a nagging mother, a deadbeat new age dad, and a sweet, yet pressuring, wife (Gillian Jacobs - TV’s “Community”), his mounting stress starts to trigger an insufferable gastrointestinal reaction.

Out of ideas and at the end of his rope, Duncan seeks the help of a hypnotherapist, who helps him discover the root of his unusual stomach pain: a pintsized demon living in his intestine that, triggered by excessive anxiety, forces its way out and slaughters the people who have angered him. Out of fear that his intestinal gremlin may target its wrath on the wrong person, Duncan attempts to befriend it, naming it Milo and indulging it to keep its seemingly insatiable appetite at bay.

Co-starring Patrick Warburton (“Ted"), Mary Kay Place ("Sweet Home Alabama"), Stephen Root (TV’s “King of the Hill”), and Peter Stormare (The Big Lebowski), BAD MILO! first entertained audiences as an “Official Selection” at the 2013 SXSW Film Festival, where critics hailed it, “A cult classic in the making!” (Inkoo Kang, Los Angeles Times). Now, movie fans around the world can experience the outrageous horror and humour of BAD MILO! on DVD, plus hours of frighteningly fun bonus features.

BAD MILO! will be showing at Film4 FrightFest ahead of its DVD release at Vue West End on August 23, 2014.

Extras on the DVD will include

Deleted and Extended Scenes
-‘Extended dinner with the family’
-‘Veterinarian’
Featurettes
-‘Alternate Takes Milo and Ralph Puppeteers’
-‘Alternate Takes Milo Raw Take’

The film will be released onto UK DVD 20th October from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
