Four more Sunday night double-bills - on Horror Channel's VINTAGE VAULT this June

This June, Horror Channel once again journeys into the history of genre cinema with THE VINTAGE VAULT, presenting double-bills of classic sci-fi and horror films every Sunday night.

The vault is unlocked on Sunday June 5th with Nathan Juran’s Ray Harryhausen inspired 20 MILLION MILES TO EARTH. This is paired with Fred F. Sears’ rampaging alien bird yarn THE GIANT CLAW. Then on Sunday June 12th, we have THE MONOLITH MONSTERS, in which the world is attacked by thirsty giant crystals, followed by the beastly mutant classic THE DEADLY MANTIS.
On Sunday June 19th, the brilliantly lurid THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1957), directed by Terence Fisher, hits our screens, followed by drive-in favourite THE BLOB, starring Steve McQueen. Finally on Sunday June 26th, a Terence Fisher double-bill as the hypnotically sensual and gory DRACULA (1958) swoops onto the channel. This adaptation of Bram Stoker’s classic launched Cushing and Christopher Lee into global stardom. This is followed by Fisher’s equally successful adaptation of the classic Universal monster movies, THE REVENGE OF FRANKENSTEIN, again starring the incomparable Peter Cushing.Full film details in transmission order:

Can the world be saved by the saline solution which the scientists are hurriedly developing in the lab?

When a giant insect attacks several people in a remote Arctic region, Col. Joe Parkham (Craig Stevens) swings into action. Parkham and his associates, Dr. Ned Jackson (William Hopper) and Ned's assistant Margie Blake (Alix Talton), track the predatory mantis as it heads southward to Washington DC.

On a search for his missing friend, Jonathan Harker (John Van Eyssen), vampire hunter Dr. Van Helsing (Peter Cushing) is led to Count Dracula's (Christopher Lee) castle, where he finds an undead Harker in Dracula's crypt and discovers that the count's next target is Harker's ailing fiancée, Lucy Holmwood (Carol Marsh). With the help of her brother, Arthur (Michael Gough), Van Helsing is determined to protect Lucy and put an end to Count Dracula's parasitic reign of terror.

Sunday 26 June @ 22:35 - THE REVENGE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1957)
Having escaped execution and assumed an alias, Baron Frankenstein (Peter Cushing) transplants his deformed underling's brain into a perfect body, but the effectiveness of the process and the secret of his identity soon begin to unravel. A haunting, slow-burning horror tale exploring the consequences of greed, corruption and man’s exploitation of the earth, THE FEAST (GWLEDD) is the directorial debut of Lee Haven Jones (Doctor Who) and was written and produced by Roger Williams (Bang).  It stars Annes Elwy (Little Women), Nia Roberts (Under Milk Wood), Julian Lewis Jones (Justice League), Steffan Cennydd (Last Summer) and Sion Alun Davies (The Left Behind).
Filmed in the Welsh language, THE FEAST (GWLEDD) unfolds over the course of one evening as a wealthy family gathers for a sumptuous dinner in their ostentatious house in the Welsh mountains. The guests are a local businessman and a neighbouring farmer, and the intent is to secure a business deal to mine in the surrounding countryside.  When a mysterious young woman arrives to be their waitress for the evening, the family’s beliefs and values are challenged as her quiet yet disturbing presence begins to unravel their lives - slowly, deliberately and with the most terrifying consequences.

Mad Max meets The Walking Dead in WYRMWOOD APOCALYPSE, the sequel to the 2014 the Aussie zombie comedy WYRMWOOD : ROAD OF THE DEAD, which comes to Disc and Digital May 13th from 101 Films.
Set in the Australian outback, several years after the apocalyptic events of the previous film, a lone soldier, Rhys (Luke McKenzie – TV's Wentworth Prison, Home and Away), has been rounding up survivors in the zombie infected wastelands and handing over them to a small military unit at a remote bunker.

Their chief scientist, The Surgeon General (Nicholas Boshier – TV's The Moth Effect) has been using them to try and find a cure for the zombie virus. But when Rhys discovers the extremely unethical experiments the Surgeon has really been carrying out, he decides he wants no further part in his plans, resulting in near fatal consequences for himself .
Hooking up with a group of survivors, which happens to include the characters from the previous film, Barry and Brooke (Jay Gallagher and Bianca Bradley reprising their earlier roles) they set out to stop the antics of this rogue military outfit before they all end up on the Surgeon General's slab.
Boasting some good gory effects, this was a really fun zombie film, equally as good as the first. Though you don't actually have to see the first film in order to watch this, being pretty much a self contained story. But if you haven't seen it, you should definitely check it out, along with this.
If you liked the TV show Z-Nation, you'll defiantly love this as it features the same sort of slapstick humour.
The Blu-Ray copy I was sent did not contain any supplemental material.

HELL HIGH - On Blu-ray 18 July

When high school football hero Jon-Jon (Breaking Bad’s Christopher Cousins) quits the team, he winds up falling in with a group of outcasts led by the sadistic Dickens (played to unhinged perfection by the late Christopher Stryker).

GIALLO ESSENTIALS - On Limited Edition Blu-ray 25 July

This volume of Giallo Essentials celebrates the range and breadth of the genre with three lesser-seen films from its early 1970s heyday.

In Silvio Amadio’s Smile Before Death, familicide with a sprinkling of Oedipal love is the order of the day when teenager Nancy (Jenny Tamburi, The Suspicious Death of a Minor) returns home to discover the apparent suicide of her mother, and quickly comes to suspect that her stepfather (Silvano Tranquilli, The Bloodstained Butterfly) and his mistress (Rosalba Neri, The French Sex Murders) are to blame.

Next, horny priests and self-flagellating nuns abound in Francesco Mazzei’s The Weapon, the Hour, the Motive, as police commissioner Franco Boito (Renzo Montagnani, Massacre in Rome) investigates the brutal murder of a young clergyman, only to enter into an affair with the dead man’s lover (Bedy Moratti, Calling All Police Cars).

Finally, in Giuseppe Bennati’s The Killer Reserved Nine Seats, an assortment of wealthy degenerates – including Italian cult mainstays Andrea Scotti (Django, Prepare a Coffin) and Howard Ross (The Pyjama Girl Case) – answer the summons of an eccentric nobleman (Chris Avram, A Bay of Blood) and assemble in the theatre attached to his ancestral home, only to find themselves trapped in the decaying building while a savage killer picks them off Agatha Christie-style!

With gory murders, wanton debauchery and left-field plot twists a-plenty, all three of these oft-overlooked gialli are restored in 2K from their original camera negatives – including brand-new, Arrow-exclusive restorations of Smile Before Death and The Weapon, the Hour, the Motive – alongside a range of in-depth bonus features.

Horror anthology SCARE US gets UK Digital release

SCARE US, a darkly vicious serial killer horror anthology, will be released in the UK on Monday 13th June, courtesy of Koch Films. It will be available via Sky Store, Virgin Movies, Apple TV / iTunes and Amazon, as well as Google Play and Xbox.

The 5-part murderous tale, which was voted one of the Top 10 Hidden Horror Gems of 2021, focuses on an unlikely group of aspiring writers who live in Sugarton - a small town plagued by the apparent return of an infamous serial killer, dubbed "Cutthroat". As usual, they meet in their local bookstore run by Peter, the group’s leader, to share their scary stories, but tonight, they are about to discover they've become the stars of a sick killer's own twisted tale.

Shot in Arizona over a 16 day period, SCARE US is directed by Ryan Henry Johnston (Head Director, Co-Director of Night Haul), Carl Jensen IV (Co-Director of Dead Ringer) Ryan Kjolberg (Director of Untethered), Charlotte Lilt (Co-Director of Night Haul), Tom J. McCoy (Director of The Resting) and Jordan Pillar (Co-Director of Dead Ringer)

The Falling Flame Pictures production stars Tom Sandoval, Charlotte Lilt, Michelle Palermo, Michael C. Alvarez, Ethan Drew, Jason Wiechert, Desiree Srinivas and William Kenny. Writers are Will Hirsch, Carl Jensen IV, Ryan Henry Johnston, Ryan Kjolberg, Tom J. McCoy and Jordan Pillar. It is produced by Jason Wiechert, Ryan Henry Johnston and Robyn Sturgis.

Co-director, producer Ryan Henry Johnston commented “We hope UK audiences appreciate what we feel are three of the coolest, most unique aspects of the movie: each of the five main characters telling their short story also plays the main character in the story they tell, and each story has its own style, tone and subgenre. Our goal was to create an anthology every type of horror fan can enjoy, and I hope they all do. And fans of Tom Sandoval from VANDERPUMP RULES get a chance to see him do something very different”.

Post-apocalyptic horror novel THE SURVIVORS released by Solstice Publishing

THE SURVIVORS, a post-apocalyptic horror novella written for adult readers, describes a calamitous future in which runaway climate change has made the planet nearly uninhabitable. Civilization has collapsed, and every day is a struggle for the remaining few.

Lucy, a young mother of two, dreams of a better life by bringing back forgotten knowledge. But the rest of her group, led by her brutal aunt, is focused solely on day-to-day survival—at any price.

When a deadly hurricane destroys their home, Lucy’s group is forced on the road, where they must cope with hunger, searing temperatures, and vicious rivals. And their nightmare is just beginning. “Lucy’s determination and sanity are sorely tested,” says Weber. British author John Moralee called it “a disturbing and memorable story.”

THE SURVIVORS explores the consequences of runaway climate change, the tensions between short-term survival and long-term thinking, and the fragility of civilization and the human psyche. The book contains scenes with explicit violence and gore, and may not be suitable for all readers.

The Mayhem Film Festival will return this autumn to Broadway Cinema, Nottingham to showcase the best in international horror, sci-fi and cult cinema, with the festival’s 18th edition planned to run for four days from Thursday 13 - Sunday 16 October.

Following last year’s triumphant return to Broadway’s Screen 1 after a scaled-down ‘Skeleton Edition’ of the festival in 2020, organisers are excited to once again begin planning for the festival’s traditional four-day event in October.

Mayhem’s organisers promise the biggest edition of the festival yet – festival co-director Chris Cooke says: “We’re looking forward to bringing you together for the most anticipated and exciting examples of the genre, special guests and more… across four days of glorious global cinema – in a packed-out Screen 1 at the very best venue out there, Broadway Cinema!”

Broadway’s Director of Marketing and Communications, Stewart Terry added: “We can’t wait to host another Mayhem this year. The four-day Mayhem weekend is always one of the most exciting times for us here at Broadway, and we know that many film lovers visit us from across the UK to not only see the latest in big-screen horror, sci-fi and cult movies, but also to re-engage with their fellow Mayhem fans.”

In addition to announcing their 2022 dates, Mayhem Film Festival is pleased to open the call for short films for this year’s edition. Nucleus Films releasing two Giallo films this Spring

Nucleus Films have two exciting releases coming to you in Spring 2022 and if you are a fan of Italian film these are going to be films you will want to add to your collection.

Mixing the visual style and shocking violence of the classic Italian Giallo with the slick sensuality of 1980s erotic thrillers, Carlo Vanzina's controversial box office hit NOTHING UNDERNEATH dives into the dark underbelly of Milan's fashion world as American forest ranger Bob Crane – inspired by a psychic vision - heads to Italy in search of his twin sister, a top model who has mysteriously vanished.

He soon finds himself drawn into a sophisticated and sinister world of sex, murder, drugs and intrigue where no one is what they seem and a scissor-wielding assassin stalks the catwalk.

This classic late-period Italian thriller stars Donald Pleasence (Phantom of Death, Phenomena), real-life supermodel Renée Simonsen and American TV regular Tom Schanley alongside a host of top models and fashion industry cameos. A classic score by Pino Donaggio adds the finishing touch to a film that oozes Eighties excess and high fashion.

Newly restored in 4K from the original negatives, NOTHING UNDERNEATH is one of the great unsung films of the late giallo era, and comes fully loaded with extras.

After one of their number is raped at a party and then mysteriously murdered some time later, a group of supermodels who moonlight as high-class hookers find that a brutal killer is taking revenge on everyone involved in the original assault, just as a mysterious new arrival joins their group for an extravagant music video-style fashion shoot. Who is she and what is her connection to the series of violent deaths taking place around her?

Mixing the classic traditions of Italian giallo cinema with the ultra-modernist aesthetics of Eighties MTV, this 1988 thematic follow-up to erotic thriller Nothing Underneath from director Dario Piana is a visually dazzling and wildly extravagant study in style and slaughter that has a cast of beautiful women headed by cult movie icon Florence Guérin (Faceless, The Black Cat) and is soundtracked by a collection of 1980s pop hits from the likes of Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Huey Lewis and the News.

This Nucleus Films presentation of TOO BEAUTIFUL TO DIE (AKA Nothing Underneath II) - is newly restored in 4K from the original 35mm negatives, looking more stunning than ever before and is complete with extensive special features.
