Hammer presents ITHAQUA - World Premiere at FrightFest, ahead of it's UK cinema release!

Hammer presents ITHAQUA, a gripping new survival horror receiving its World Premiere at FrightFest London on 29th August, and coming soon to UK cinemas!

Synopsis:
As a brutal winter grips the Canadian wilderness and the fur trade begins its collapse, the isolated inhabitants of a remote trading outpost enlist Cole Franklin, an American mercenary haunted by his past, to investigate the silence that has fallen over a nearby Indigenous settlement. What he discovers is a scene of unimaginable terror and an overwhelming sense that something ancient and unnatural still lingers in the wilderness.

As fear spreads back to Fort William, an unseen presence begins to take hold. Paranoia, hunger and violence consume the isolated community, driving neighbour against neighbour as reason gives way to madness. With the fort descending into chaos and survival hanging by a thread, Cole must draw upon his military experience to lead a desperate band of survivors against a force that cannot easily be understood - or escaped.

A haunting tale of isolation, folklore and psychological dread, Hammer presents ITHAQUA, a gripping survival horror from director Casey Walker (The Void, In a Violent Nature), whose remarkable twelve-year journey to bring the film to the screen has become as compelling as the story itself.

Starring Luke Hemsworth (Westworld, Land of Bad), Kevin Durand (The Naked Gun, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come), Craig Lauzon (Trickster, Beyblade), Leenah Robinson (Revival, 1923) and Michael Pitt (Day of the Fight, Ghost in the Shell), ITHAQUA is an extraordinary independent horror film that Hammer is proud to present to UK audiences.

ITHAQUA
has its World Premiere at FrightFest London on Saturday 29th August

Written and directed by David Kittredge, BOORMAN AND THE DEVIL premiered at Venice International Festival before screening at festivals around the world including Beyond Fest and FrightFest Glasgow.

UK comedy horror, EMPLOYEE OF THE DEAD launches crowfunding campaign

Filmmakers Aaron Truss and Joe Acres (The Rob Knox Story, Pareidolia) are launching a crowdfund for their debut feature comedy horror, EMPLOYEE OF THE DEAD, on Tuesday 4th August through Indiegogo with specially filmed teasers with all the principal cast that offer a tasty flavour of what to expect.  Production is expected to begin in Spring 2027.

Based on a true story, the film is based on events that took place in 2008 when Truss and Acres, along with the late Harry Potter actor, Rob Knox, secretly filmed a short zombie film in their local Sainsburys without management knowing. The short has gained a cult status over the years not least to being the last film Rob Knox appeared in before his murder in a knife attack in Sidcup just weeks later.

In EMPLOYEE OF THE DEAD, a frustrated supermarket worker secretly shoots a no-budget zombie movie during his night shifts with help from his sister and coworkers, risking his job and relationships for one last shot at becoming a real filmmaker.

The script gained the attention of CBBC icon, Dani Harmer, best known for playing Tracy Beaker. She had previously worked with Rob Knox on the sitcom, After You’re Gone, and was a patron of the 16-year long Rob Knox London Film Festival, which held its final event at Picturehouse Central in 2025.

Dani says, “The script is just awesome, it made me laugh, it made me cry in parts and who doesn’t want to attack some zombies? I know horror fans are going to absolutely devour this!”

The film has also attracted horror veterans such as director Jake West (Doghouse, Evil Aliens) who was responsible for encouraging the filmmakers to make their debut feature film. Other familiar genre names who have signed on include Nicholas Vince (Hellraiser, Nightbreed), Sean Cronin (The Mummy, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation), film composer Simon Boswell (Shallow Grave, Mother’s Pride), stunt co-ordinator Pete Pedrero (The Bond Films, 28 Days Later) and director of Photography, Vince Knight (Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey, Pinocchio Unstrung).

One cast member who impressed producers was Ellie Raé Winstone, daughter of Ray Winstone who auditioned with a scene from Channel 4’s Dead Set, originally performed by her sister Jaime Winstone.  Joining the line-up is BAFTA-nominated and British Comedy Award-winning comedian and broadcaster Nick Helm, best known for comedy series Uncle and Nick Helm’s Heavy Entertainment, both on BBC Three who brings his own unique brand of humour to the project.

Here’s a teaser trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hS58iHznCxU

Aaron Truss says, “Suddenly, the ridiculous little supermarket zombie film we had once made as teenagers evolved into something far bigger than we ever imagined. Now, almost twenty years after a bunch of kids took over a Sainsbury’s in Chislehurst to make a zombie movie, here I am approaching forty and doing it all over again but with a bunch of absolute legends”.

From the outset, it was decided to pay tribute to the late Rob Knox by making him a main character in the film, who will be performed by Detectorists actor, Paul Casar. The filmmakers felt it was important to not only acknowledge Rob and his influence but to keep his spirit alive and honour his love of indie filmmaking all these years later – with the blessing of Rob’s parents, Sally Holder and Colin Knox.

Preparing for the Indiegogo crowdfunding launch, the team filmed scenes and proof of concepts for audiences in the hopes they will join them on this final journey for EMPLOYEE OF THE DEAD.

Contributors can expect to get their name in the credits, appearances in the film, used props and costumes from the film, personalised videos from the cast on set and lots more, including the chance to become a producer on the film.

All money raised from the Indiegogo will go towards paying for locations, cast fees, catering, props, costumes, visual effects etc.  Production is expected to begin at the start of 2027.

For anyone who signs up to the mailing list, they will be greeted with a special video message from both leads, Dani Harmer and Joe Acres.

CARRY THE DARKNESS - Coming to BloodStream August 14

The Horror Collective and BloodStream are bringing Douglas Forrester's acclaimed supernatural thriller CARRY THE DARKNESS to horror fans this summer, with an exclusive streaming premiere on BloodStream beginning Friday, August 14, followed by a multi-platform rollout from The Horror Collective.

A troubled metalhead teen is blamed for the atrocities of a malevolent entity as the ‘Satanic Panic’ sweeps through small-town America in the early 90s.

Set in 1993, CARRY THE DARKNESS follows Travis Baldwin, a misunderstood teenage metalhead living in the shadow of the Satanic Panic. When a mysterious entity begins wreaking havoc in his small town, Travis becomes the prime suspect. Hunted by suspicion while the true evil remains hidden, he must protect himself and his friends before paranoia and darkness consume them all.

Blending supernatural horror, coming-of-age drama, and small-town mystery, CARRY THE DARKNESS captures the paranoia of the Satanic Panic through the lens of a generation raised on heavy metal, The X-Files, and Twin Peaks. Atmospheric, emotionally resonant, and steeped in '90s nostalgia, the film explores the high cost of moral panic—and the monsters it creates.

The film features a breakout lead performance from Joel Meyers and co-stars Jaden Gant, Helen Laser, Hollis Fox, Autumn Breaud, and David Boldt, with a score composed by Travis Bacon.

Critics praised the feature as “effectively spooky and a pointed examination of what it’s like to be an adolescent outsider in a time of societal turmoil” (Daily Grindhouse), while Horror Movies Uncut hailed it for “its refusal to sensationalize. [...] It’s more interested in what’s beneath the panic than in the theatrics of the panic itself."

Mayhem Film Festival announce IMPOSTERS, MUM, I’M ALIEN PREGNANT and CAREFUL as Early Bird Passes go on sale

Mayhem Film Festival is proud to announce the first three films of its 22nd edition which will take place at Broadway, Nottingham on 15-18 October 2026.

First up is Caleb Phillips’ lo-fi horror/sci-fi IMPOSTERS. After a couple’s baby boy is taken, a desperate mother learns of a way to bring him back, but her husband soon suspects who she returned with isn’t quite their son. Taking the audience in unexpected directions, Imposters is an incredibly smart thriller that pokes at the cracks in a seemingly perfect family picture and led by two fantastic central performances.

Next up is body-horror comedy MUM, I’M ALIEN PREGNANT, from New Zealand duo Thunderlips. When a messy millennial underachiever accidentally gets alien-pregnant, she must overcome sceptical doctors, a useless baby-daddy, and her oversharing mum in order to survive and reclaim her life. Under all the goo (and there is plenty) and the dry New Zealand humour, Thunderlips have crafted a heartfelt commentary on pregnancy, choice and parenthood.

To round-up this first wave of announcements, Mayhem will be presenting a screening of Guy Maddin’s 1997 CAREFUL. In this stunning melodrama, the residents of a 19th century Alpine village must speak softly and remain quiet to avoid being swallowed up by an avalanche. But desires, repression and human nature cannot always be tamed. Mayhem is excited to present a brand new 4K restoration of one of Guy Maddin’s early masterpieces.

Mayhem Co-Director, Chris Cooke is excited to present the programme to audiences: "Mayhem brings together our most eclectic international line-up yet - including horror, twisted sci-fi, scary shorts and cult cinema from Argentina, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, Spain and more, gathering a wide ranging selection of thrilling genre filmmaking from around the world.”

It gets bigger every year, and with horror more popular than ever, we expect this edition to attract even more attention than usual. Steven, Chris and Meli are true connoisseurs of the genre, so it's always all killer, no filler. Grab your weekend pass before it's too late.”

Contemporary Horror DOROTHY: THE HAUNTING OF OZ - Unleashes the Wicked Witch in Film

Follow the yellow brick road to Hell in the first teaser for DOROTHY: THE HAUNTING OF OZ, a contemporary horror take on L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

On Halloween night, a viral internet challenge unleashes Dorothy, the Wicked Witch, and more nightmarish characters on an unsuspecting California town. As the curse spreads, the line between myth and memory begins to disappear for a group of struggling college athletes. One student must confront her trauma before it consumes everyone around her.

Adrienne Tabag, Caia Bonner, Jordan Sklansky, Aziah King, Andrew Wang, and Thomas Shan star in DOROTHY: THE HAUNTING OF OZ, which marks the feature debut of 22-year-old writer-director Elijah J. Alvarez.

"Horror is a powerful way to explore not just defeating the monster, but learning how to live with it," notes Alvarez. "DOROTHY: THE HAUNTING OF OZ is about grief-shaped identity, the ways evil enters through the fractures in our lives, and what happens when the thing haunting us is also the part of ourselves we refuse to face."

Blending elements of psychological thriller, supernatural slasher, coming-of-age drama, and sci-fi worldbuilding, the indie film ambitiously explores self-identity and the power of myth through a Gen Z lens.

"My generation is fractured by the internet and still trying to find ourselves while life keeps stripping pieces away," Alvarez explains. "We document everything, we chase feeling, and still we can’t stop the darkness from encroaching."

Currently in post-production, DOROTHY: THE HAUNTING OF OZ is aiming for a fall 2026 premiere

The next chapter in the Alien: Isolation series, ALIEN: ISOLATION 2 will bring players face-to-face once more with cinema’s deadliest killer: Alien’s Xenomorph. With a brand-new setting, story and protagonist, players will experience the same deadly tension which established the original game as the ultimate survival horror experience.

"Horror is a medium that thrives on atmosphere and tension, whether you are watching it in a cinema or gripping a controller," said Al Hope, Creative Director at Creative Assembly. "Partnering with FrightFest is a perfect match. Their audience appreciates the craft of fear, and we can’t wait to let them experience the relentless dread of ALIEN: ISOLATION 2 firsthand."

“We are incredibly excited to welcome SEGA to the FrightFest family," said Ian Rattray, Co-Director of FrightFest. "Our festival has always been about pushing the boundaries of the horror genre. Alien: Isolation™ was a masterclass in interactive suspense, and bringing the sequel to our audience allows us to offer a unique, spine-chilling experience that aligns perfectly with our cinematic roots."

The upcoming edition of FrightFest will take place over the August Bank Holiday weekend (August 27 - August 31, 2026) at their flagship London venues: Odeon LUXE Leicester Sq. and Odeon LUXE West End.

Tubi FrightFest unveils monstrous 2026 Line-Up

Be prepared for a terrifying, record-breaking selection of World, International, and UK premieres as Tubi FrightFest 2026, the UK’s No.1 horror & fantasy film festival, returns to the Odeon LUXE Leicester Square and the ODEON Luxe West End for its annual five-day celebration of nerve-jangling eeriness, hair-raising shock, and epic scares. This year’s line-up highlights the genre’s transforming landscape and reflects the amazing span of progressive global genre filmmaking.

Running from Thursday August 27 – Monday 31 August, Tubi FrightFest will showcase a record-breaking eighty-two features across five screens, including the popular ‘First Blood’, Documentary, and Retrospective strands. This year there are twenty-four world premieres, with sixteen countries represented, spanning four continents.

The opening night of the festival has a distinctive Asian flavour with the World premiere of NERVOUS, Abner Pastoll’s subversive, cross-cultural tale of psychological alienation and dangerous obsession. Shot entirely in South Korea, the film’s narrative is specifically rooted in the disorientating cultural and physical terrain of the Korean countryside and reunites Pastoll with his A Good Woman Is Hard To Find star Sarah Bolger, who plays a woman losing her ability to hear men’s voices. As her grip on reality starts to fracture, paranoia, hallucinations, and dangerous desires spiral out of control. The director and cast will be attending.

This is followed by Cannes sensation COLONY, the highly anticipated zombie shocker sensation from Yeon Sang-ho, director of SEOUL STATION and TRAIN TO BUSAN - both of which will also be screened – the latter to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the zombie shocker that became an instant cult classic.

The Asian line-up also includes 2026 Berlin Film Festival favourite GHOSTS IN THE CELL, where Indonesian genre wizard Joko Anwar crafts a gleefully grotesque horror-comedy, SALMOKJI: WHISPERING WATER, which has just become the highest-grossing Korean horror film of all time, and cult Japanese masterpieces CRAZY LIPS and GORE FROM OUTER SPACE, now remastered from original negatives.

The closing night film is the UK premiere of SPECIES, an exhilarating Gen Z shocker. French writer-director Marion Le Corroller’s debut feature is a darkly comic sci-fi body-horror with a deeper allegorical message about workplace burn-out. Its unique body-mutation sequences are created by special make-up effects designer Pierre-Olivier Persin, who won an Oscar for The Substance.

The twenty-five tales of terror, trauma and torment in the main screen sees the return of a lot of familiar talent, including The Adams family, with their deeply affecting apocalyptic fable THE GLORIOUS DEAD, Spider One with subversive dark comedy BIG BABY, produced by Cher, Holy Shit! director Lukas Rinker with his seat-edged survival thriller FROSTBITE,  Cheat directors Kevin Ignatius and Nick Psinakis with their stylish crime thriller VALLEY VIEW MOTEL, Italian horror maestro Federico Zampaglione, with supernatural chiller THE NAMELESS BALLAD, and Ryuhei Kitamura (The Midnight Meat Train) with LABYRINTH, a game-changing shocker in the Saw tradition.

Tubi FrightFest also welcome back Christopher Smith, with the World premiere of his eight-legged satirical horror, SPIDER ISLAND, Padraig Reynolds with his teeth-snapping homage to 1970s creature feature exploitation, GATOR FACE, and James Nunn with survival thriller HUNGRY, where Louisiana bayou tourists are stalked by a ravenous, territorial hippopotamus.

Hammer also returns with ITHAQUA, a gripping period survival horror, directed by Casey Walker, who becomes the first director to have two films screening at the same festival, the other being HOME BODIES, a Christmas movie unlike any you’ve seen before.

Plus, there is the unique anthology THE PITCHFORK RETREAT, from the producers of the Terrifier franchise, which features the last appearance of Candyman star Tony Todd, twisted horror comedy DRAG, co-produced by Danny DeVito and starring his daughter Lucy DeVito. Brea Grant, Chelsea Stardust and Ed Dougherty bring us GRIND, a horror satire anthology about the modern gig economy, and actress Lulu Wilson is back as our favourite lethal anti-hero in Jenn Wexler’s THE LAST TEMPTATION OF BECKY, the biggest, bloodiest and most unhinged instalment yet.

Other Main Screen titles include ODDITIES, a twisty dark tale of antiques and aliens, starring genre royalty Adrienne Barbeau (The Fog, Escape From New York), YOU ARE THE FILM, an interactive, fourth-wall-breaking experimental feature, HYENA, a brutal, fast-paced serial killer thriller, Stewart Sparke’s DEAD RESET, a video game inspired twist on the time travel genre, tense paranoia thriller IMPOSTERS, and fresh from its sensational Tribeca Festival launch comes PONDEROSA, a hilarious, creepy and surreal Bunuelian nightmare.

This year’s four Discovery strands continue to demonstrate Tubi FrightFest’s established ethos for promoting new talent, original content and experimental formats, and this is no more evident than in the ‘First Blood’ strand.

The five World premieres this year are: Annabella Rich’s THE DEATH OF US, where grief and supernatural forces collide to devastating effect, Paul Stainthorpe’s THE BROOK, in which a search for historical answers spirals into a serial-killer mystery, William Brooke’s THE ALICE PARADOX, which offers a thought-provoking new perspective on the time-travel genre, as does Conscian Morgan’s BINDING EVA, where a man on the run is trapped in a terrifying time loop. Finally, there is Ashley Nashville‘s HERALDRY PARANORMAL, a boisterous unique take on the classic paranormal investigation horror which also stands as a vivid representation for queer voices, featuring many characters from LGTBQ+ backgrounds.

Besides the ‘First Blood’ entries, the UK is represented by many talents, both established and new, and include the World premieres of Lawrence Fowler’s demonic board game horror GRIN, Dan Schaffer’s erotically-charged ELECTRIC MEAT, which co-stars Emily Booth and Sylvia Soska, Justin Hardy’s WRATH OF THE GODS, the definitive conclusion to the "Wicker Man trilogy", and you’ll need to hang on tight for Howard Ford’s latest nerve-jangler ZIP WIRE, starring MyAnna Buring. Other UK titles include eerie B-movie homage THE PERIL AT PINCER POINT, WELCOME TO G-TOWN, a Glaswegian splatter-comedy from upstart twins Nathan and Ben McQuaid, and Chris Green’s music and murder mix SYNTHESIZED.

Other Discovery Screen One highlights include FACES OF DEATH, the meta slasher retooling of the cult 1978 mondo classic, starring Charli XCX, the heart-felt gross-out shocker BOWELS OF HELL, unusual thriller TERRESTRIAL  from Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink, razor sharp, gory satire STARSUCKERS, Larry Fessenden’s graveyard monster mash TRAUMA OR, MONSTERS ALL, intense, psychological found-footage horror INFIRMARY,  DRACULA: THE NIGHT AROUND US, a tale of flesh, fangs, forgiveness and funerals, dark web crime thriller COMPLIANCE, and SNAPSHOT, the first found-footage film which uses a unique pinhole camera aesthetic.

Discovery screens 2, 3 & 4 play host to a global menu of genre delights. From North America comes Kyra Elise Gardner’s horror dramedy SLAY, Cameron Francis’ psychological horror thriller BLOOD SECRET, Andy Chen’s much-anticipated ANOTHER, starring Heather Langenkamp and Doug Jones, Justin M. Seaman’s blood-spattered end to his creature feature trilogy THE BARN PART III, Henry Chaisson’s ghostly RECLUSE, starring Toby Poser, Codey S. Wilson’s brutal home invasion nightmare LESIONS, Casper Kelly’s trippy BUDDY, Nick Lyon’s demonic DO YOU WANT TO PLAY?, Robert J. Steinmiller and Chris Lightbody’s cursed BAD KARAOKE, Stefan Colson’s possessed BLOOM, Carson McKinnon’s emotionally-driven shocker MOTHER AND ME and from Josh Lobo, the rising star director of I Trapped The Devil, comes J-Horror inspired sci-fi shocker NIGHT AFTER NIGHT. Finally, Frogman is back as director Anthony Cousins returns to Loveland with his even wackier cryptid sequel FROGMAN RETURNS. Fans will also be able to catch a retrospective screening of FROGMAN, with Cousins in attendance.

South America is represented by director Patricio Valladares’ Chilean sequel to Invoking Yell, INVOKING SCREAM, from Brazil we have Ian SBF’s sinister psychological thriller THE FLESH ITSELF, plus REMANENCE, Kapel Furman’s high voltage cosmic drama and from Uruguay comes SWEET VIOLENCE, the feature debut of Jeremias Segovia, one of the most exciting talents in South America.

Audiences can also sample devilish delights from down-under including OUR EFFED UP WORLD, the latest mindbender from transgender director Alice Maio Mackay, first-person found-footage horror DEAD EYES, haunting chiller THE LATCHER, and BUNNY RABBIT, the apocalyptic genre breakout of the year.

From Canada, Sam Scott brings the axe-shredding punk-rock tribute TURN IT UP!, while Daniel Turres delivers the wild, blood-soaked survival horror FRESH MEAT. Rounding out the line-up is the even meatier MEAT KILLS, from Dutch director Martijn Smits.

Tubi FrightFest has always explored industry movers and shapers in its documentary strand and this year is no exception with the world premiere of Sarah Appleton’s FULL MOON RISING: THE CHARLES BAND STORY, a new feature documentary about the truly incredible life and career of Charles Band, prolific producer/director of such genre classics as Re-Animator, From Beyond, Trancers, and Castle Freak. Charles will be attending the festival.

There is also the European premiere of RUBBERHEAD: THE LIFE & TIMES OF STEVE JOHNSON, a humorous and heartfelt portrait of one of Hollywood’s most prolific special effects makeup artists. Plus, there is the UK premiere of THE FRIGHT STUFF, Mike Meyer’s all-access documentary that takes the viewer behind the scenes of the haunted house industry in America.

This year, Tubi FrightFest presents 4K restorations of both GHOSTKEEPER, Jim Makichuk’s Canuxploitation supernatural slasher classic, and Val Guest’s timeless THE ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN. This is a World premiere presentation from Hammer Films and is a restored version of the original UK cut complete with original title sequence.

Co-director Alan Jones comments: “Tubi FrightFest knows what creates resonance with its audience: that there has to be space for depth of exciting storytelling and that what is important in the ultimate scheme of festival priorities is to interact, scream, laugh and debate in a safe space, with a like-minded community”.
