Arrow Films THE DEAD CENTER in UK and US cinemas Oct 11 and on Disc Oct 14

Arrow films latest acquisition THE DEAD CENTER will be in selected UK and US cinemas from October 11th and available to buy on BD and DVD from October 14th.

WHEN JOHN DOE ROSE FROM THE DEAD, HE BROUGHT SOMETHING BACK.

When a very dead suicide victim (Jeremy Childs, Preacher, Nashville) disappears from the morgue, it sets in motion a chain of events that has the power to immolate everything, and everyone, it touches.

Troubled psychiatrist Daniel Forrester (Shane Carruth, Primer, Upstream Color) is drawn to help a mysterious patient who is brought to the emergency psych ward in a catatonic state with no memory of how he reached the hospital.

As if to exorcise his own demons, the doctor feverishly tries to break through to his mysterious patient. But as a spate of mysterious deaths shake the ward to its core, Forrester comes to suspect that there is more to his new ward than meets the eye. As he comes to realise what he’s unleashed, a desperate race against the forces of evil threatens to swallow him whole.

The Dead Center is a smart supernatural thriller that explores the demons that live inside all of us from writer-director Billy Senese, recently hailed as a “masterful new voice in terror” (Nerdist).

THE DEVIL'S CANDY gets its long-awaited UK TV premiere on Horror Channel

Horror Channel has seven prime-time premieres in September, including the UK TV premiere of Sean Byrne’s THE DEVIL’S CANDY; an absorbing, unnerving and devastating ride into psychological trauma, starring Ethan Embry (“Sneaky Pete”, “Grace & Frankie”).

There are also channel premieres for David Chirchirillo’s deadly dating thriller BAD MATCH; Chad Archibald’s BITE, a fearless fusion of slime, shivers and shock; box-office supernatural horror hit THE PACT; and Mick Garris’s macabre tale of horror and eroticism, SLEEPWALKERS, starring Ron Perlman and John Landis. Then there’s the original sly monster croc comedy LAKE PLACID starring Bridget Fonda and Bill Pullman; and psychic debunking chiller RED LIGHTS, starring Cillian Murphy, Sigourney Weaver, Toby Jones, Elizabeth Olsen and Robert De Niro.

Full film details in transmission order:

Fri 6 Sept @ 21:00 – BAD MATCH (2017) *Channel Premiere

Be careful who you swipe for...Harris (Jack Cutmore-Scott) seems to have it all - a great job, plenty of friends and an active sex life thanks to a range of dating apps. But that all changes when he matches with Riley (Lili Simmons). Unlike Harris, Riley isn’t looking for a one-night-stand and, while at first, Harris just assumes she’s clingy, he’s about to find out the truth is something far more sinister.

Fri 13 Sept @ 21:00 BITE (2015) *Channel Premiere

While on her hen party getaway to exotic Costa Rica, bride-to-be Casey gets a seemingly harmless bite from an unknown insect while bathing in an idyllic jungle pool. But after returning home with matrimonial cold feet, she starts exhibiting alien behaviour as what crept under her skin starts taking hold. Between physical transformation and wedding anxiety, Casey succumbs to her new instincts and begins creating a hive that not only houses her translucent offspring, but also feeds on flesh.

Sat 14 Sept @ 21:00 – THE PACT (2012) * Channel Premiere

Following her mother's funeral, Annie reluctantly returns to her childhood home - a place she would rather forget. Then as her sister and cousin inexplicably disappear, Annie is forced to unlock the doors to the past to discover the hidden secrets of the house and in doing so finds a room that she has no memory of. Things take a sinister and terrifying turn as Annie soon realises she isn't alone in the house...

Fri 20 Sept @ 21:00 – THE DEVIL’S CANDY (2015) *UK TV Premiere

Unfulfilled artist Jesse Hellman moves his wife and fellow metal music-loving teenage daughter Zooey into a rustic Texas home with a violent past. Soon his paintings start taking on a darker, disturbing and more prophetic turn as anxieties and family tensions get ramped up. Then the clearly unbalanced Ray appears on his doorstep wanting to move back into the house where his parents tragically died. When Ray sees Zooey, nothing prepares the family for the shocking chain of events.

Sat 21 Sept @ 22:55 – SLEEPWALKERS (1992) *Channel Premiere

Tanya (Mädchen Amick) falls for Charles (Brian Krause), the new boy in school, only to learn too late that he’s a life-sucking sleepwalker. Charles and his mother, Mary (Alice Krige), are the last of a dying breed who are able to stay alive only by feeding on the life force of virtuous young women. But it turns out that the sleepwalkers’ Achilles’ heel is the domestic house cat, with whom they share genetic information. As the tension mounts, and the casualties pile up, the town’s tabbies gather for a final chilling showdown with the monsters in their midst.

Fri 27 Sept @ 21:00 – LAKE PLACID (1999) *Channel Premiere

Welcome to Black Lake, Maine. This tranquil setting is probably the last place you'd expect to find a 30-foot man-eating crocodile. But this is what confronts Kelly Scott (Bridget Fonda); an emotionally fragile, nature-phobic, New York palaeontologist who's been reluctantly dispatched for her first real field assignment. She teams up with an eccentric billionaire Jack Wells (Bill Pullman) to find this multi-toothed menace.

Sat 28 Sept @ 21:00 – RED LIGHTS (2012) *Channel Premiere

Two investigators of paranormal hoaxes, Dr. Margaret Matheson (Sigourney Weaver) and her young assistant Tom Buckley (Cillian Murphy), study the most varied metaphysical phenomena with the aim of proving their fraudulent origin. Simon Silver (Robert De Niro), a legendary blind psychic, reappears after a thirty-year absence to become the couple’s greatest international challenge. Tom quickly begins to develop an obsession with Silver, and as the two get closer, his worldview is threatened to its core.

MEMORY : THE ORIGINS OF ALIEN - UK DVD review

There have been many documentaries and “making-of” features made about the Alien films over the years. So many in fact, that one might question the necessity of this latest independent documentary from director Alexandre O. Philippe (Doc of the Dead, The People vs George Lucas) which comes to UK DVD this month.

This one however takes a somewhat different approach, focussing primarily on writer Dan O’ Bannon’s influences for the story. Examining the old horror comics, various films and literary works he drew inspiration from when drafting the script.

The film also looks at the various images from Greek mythology that influenced Ridely Scott’s look of the film and how Swiss artist HR Giger came to be involved in the set design. As well as looking at the cultural impact that Alien and it’s subsequent sequels have had since their release.

Featuring a mixture of brand new and archive interviews with the likes of co-writer Ron Shushet, Diane O’Bannon, editor Terry Rawlings, Co-producer Ivor Powell. Cast members Tom Skerrit, Veronica Cartwright along with the likes of film makers Roger Corman (who was originally approached to produce), Gary Sherman (Director Death Line) and critics Alan Jones (director of the 'FrightFest' horror festivals) Clarke Wolfe (of the 'Sending the Wolfe' podcast) and many others, along with clips and behind the scenes footage from the film.

Perhaps one that will appeal more to die-hard Alien fans than casual sci-fi fans, this is never-the-less a compelling study of the origins of the film, which shows that the look, feel and evolution of the film goes well beyond Director Ridley Scott’s involvement.

MEMORY : THE ORIGINS OF ALIEN will be given a limited run in selected cinemas August 30th, before it’s DVD release on the 2nd September.

STRANGE BUT TRUE - coming to UK Digital outlets

Margaret Qualley (Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood) stars alongside Nick Robinson (Jurrasic World), Greg Kinnear (TV's House of Cards) and Brian Cox (Manhunter, The Autopsy of Jane Doe), in the intense thriller STRANGE BUT TRUE, which comes to UK Digital outlets, September.

Laid up with a broken leg, Philip (Nick Robinson) is living with his mother Charlene (Amy Ryan - Escape Plan) in upstate New York. It’s been five years since the death of Philip’s brother Ronnie, a devastating blow that has torn the Chase family apart. When they receive a visit from Melissa (Margaret Qualley), Ronnie’s former girlfriend at the time of his death, wounds are re opened. Heavily pregnant, Melissa is under the belief that her unborn baby belongs to Ronnie.

Leaving Charlene angry and Philip incredulous, Melissa returns home to the cottage she rents from Gail (Blythe Danner - TV's WIll and Grace) and her husband Bill (Brian Cox), a former police officer who now owns the hardware store where Melissa works. When Philip suggests that Melissa’s revelation isn’t impossible, Charlene calls Richard, her ex-husband - and father to Philip and Ronnie – now living in Florida with his new wife. Could it be that Melissa is giving birth to Ronnie’s child? Stranger things have happened. But the truth is altogether more alarming…

Featuring a dysfunctional family dynamic, flourishes of dark Americana, a creeping sense of dread, and an audacious and unsettling shift in the final reels that leads to a mesmerising final sequence, Strange But True is a riveting mix of drama and thriller in the mould of 13 Reasons Why, Gone Girl and Prisoners

STRANGE BUT TRUE comes to UK DIgital Outlets 27th September

Mayhem Film Festival announces the next three titles from its 2019 programme

With its 15th edition now less than two months away, Mayhem Film Festival is proud to announce the next three titles from its 2019 programme.

Mayhem will host the UK Premiere of all-action, South Korean serial killer thriller "The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil". A sardonic cop reluctantly teams up with a wounded crime boss (the remarkable Ma Dong-seok of Train to Busan) to track and stop a serial killer, but their criminal rivals stand – violently - in their way. See it way ahead of the upcoming Stallone-produced US remake.

Also in this year’s line-up is "She Never Died", a female-fronted companion piece to 2015 cult film He Never Died. Olunike Adeliyi stars as an immortal cannibal who seeks out the darkest souls humanity has to offer in the hunt for her next meal, when she saves a woman from dying a grisly death on a snuff web channel and proceeds to hunt down the culprits.

Rounding off this second wave of announcements is another UK Premiere, Thai action-horror "The Pool", where a couple is trapped in an empty swimming pool with only a hungry crocodile for company. Packed with over-the-top twists and some genuinely shocking surprises, survival horror has never been so much ludicrous, logic-testing fun.

Mayhem’s full 2019 line up will be announced in early September. Discounted Early Bird Passes are still available to purchase at £70 each. For more information, please visit www.mayhemfilmfestival.com

The Mayhem Film Festival takes place between 10-13 October at the Broadway Cinema, Nottingham.

CRITTERS ATTACK - UK BD Review.

The Krites, those carnivorous alien furballs from Critters (1986), are back in Critters Attack, which comes to UK Disc and Digital outlets this month from Warner.

When an Alien spacecreaft crashes just outside a remote country town in the American South, the occupants, who rather resemble nasty looking furry hedgehogs, proceed to wreak havoc in the surrounding countryside. Chowing down on anything and everything they can find.

Unfortunately for teenager Drea (Tara Washington – Shaft [2019] ), she decides to take the kids she’s minding for walk in the countryside and they quickly find themselves being chased around by the carnivorous Critters.

Aided by a seemingly friendly female Critter they name Bianca, the group try to to make it to the safety of the nearby university. But help also comes from an unlikely source, as it seems someone has been waiting for the arrival of these critters and has a whole high tech arsenal ready to take them out.

Also starring Dee Wallace from the original film, in a somewhat different role. I found Critters Attack to be bloody good fun, which fans of the originals should enjoy.

The Blu-Ray comes with the following special features

Engineering Gore : Designing Critters (Featurette)
Critters : An out of this world experience (Featurette)
The Critter Ball (Featurette)
Scene Specific Commentary with Director Bobby Miller and a Critter

The DVD release apparently contains these same features.

CRITTERS ATTACK is released to UK BD and DVD August 26th.

Child's Play - Chucky's Coming to Your Home!

Chucky - the classic killer doll and horror icon - gets a 21st century upgrade in this critically acclaimed, razor sharp horror-comedy. Gruesome, creepy, and with a great cast – including Mark Hamill as the voice of the Buddi doll Chucky – Child’s Play is bloody good fun and charged with electric, retro cool.

After moving to a new neighbourhood, single mom Karen (Aubrey Plaza) tries to encourage her son Andy (Gabriel Bateman) to make friends by buying him a Buddi doll – the very latest in toy technology. But Andy’s doll and new best pal – which Andy names Chucky (voiced by Mark Hamill) – has a glitch that allows it to think, act, and feel. But as Andy meets new kids in the neighbourhood, how long before Chucky’s possessive friendship turns into a gruesome killer doll rampage?!

For fans of old school slasher horror, Child’s Play is like a knife plunged straight into the nostalgic pleasure zones. But the all-new Child’s Play is wickedly smart too. Chucky gets an upgrade in every way possible. He’s hardwired with plenty of heart, and he’s fully smart and WiFi-ready, which takes the horror – and hilarity – into new tech-savvy territory.

When it’s funny, it’s very funny, and when it’s gruesome, it’s very, very gruesome. There’s creepy, knife-edge tension as director Lars Klevberg cranks up the scares, and gore- hounds will go crazy for some of the most inventive and gut- churning – not to mention gut spilling – set-pieces in modern horror.

You won’t want to miss out on the all-new Child’s Play – it’s killer stuff!

Child's Play comes to UK Digital outlets Oct 11th and on Disc Oct 21 from Vertigo releasing.

New trailer for "Memory: The Origins of Alien" - in UK cinemas 30 Aug and on UK DVD and Digital 2 Sept

Checkout the new trailer for the forthconing documentart "Memory: The Origins of Alien" from Dogwoof productions...

The iconic scenes and sequences from seminal sci-fi horror ALIEN are firmly embedded in film history and popular culture: the creepy eggs and HR Giger designed spacecraft on a long dead planet; the pivotal facehugger attaching itself to one of the crew of the Nostromo; the shocking chest-bursting sequence and much, much more…

But while we may all now know that "in space, no-one can hear you scream", how did Ridley Scott and the creative team come up with the ideas for a blockbuster that changed both the horror and sci-fi genres and truly terrified audiences around the world?

As we approach the 40th Anniversary of the game-changing film a fascinating feature documentary MEMORY: THE ORIGINS OF ALIEN, from writer/director Alexandre O. Philippe (78/52: Hitchcock’s Shower Scene), uncovers the origin story behind Scott’s cinematic masterpiece, which arrives in cinemas on 30 August 2019 followed by DVD and on demand on 2 September from Dogwoof.

A contemplation on the symbiotic collaborative process of moviemaking, the power of myth, and the collective unconscious, MEMORY unearths the largely untold beginnings of a movie-masterwork rooted in Greek and Egyptian mythology, underground comics, the art of Francis Bacon, and the dark visions of Dan O’Bannon and H.R. Giger.

It reveals a veritable treasure trove of never-before-seen materials from the O’Bannon and Giger estates, including original story notes, rejected designs and storyboards, exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, and most importantly Dan O’Bannon’s original 29-page script from 1971, titled MEMORY.

"Memory: The Origins of Alien" comes to UK cinemas 30th August and is released to UK  DVD and Digital outets on the 2nd September .

New release date for Arrow Video's 4K restoration of OLDBOY!

As some of you may know, Arrow ran into a few contractual issues for some extras on this release. Sadly, they weren’t able to work this out and these extras will not be included on their releases. However, in order to create the best version of OLDBOY, Arrow managed to licence LADY VENGEANCE and SYMPATHY FOR MR. VENGEANCE - which will both be included on the Limited 4-discs release!

These changes have also unfortunately impacted the release date - which will now be September 23rd. Arrow really appreciate your patience whilst they ironed this situation out and really hope that you’ll be pleased with the additions to the releases and enjoy the new restoration.

"Double Date" - set for Blu/ray, DVD and digital release Sept

After its much lauded theatrical release and fantastic reception on its Fright Fest premiere, and subsequent festival screenings, the bloody hilarious comedy-horror Double Date – written by and starring Screen International/FrightFest Genre Rising Star 2017 award winner Danny Morgan – is set to arrive on digital, DVD and Blu-ray from Sparky Pictures.

Self-assured, and irritatingly cocksure, one thing Alex (Michael Socha – This is England, TV's Chernobyl, Being Human) can boast about is his loyalty to his dearest friend, Jim (Danny Morgan – On The Road). As Jim’s 30th birthday approaches, Alex promises to help get his best friend laid, so he won’t reach this unwelcome milestone a virgin.

They muster up the courage to arrange a double date with sisters Kitty (Kelly Wenham - Dracula: The Dark Prince) and Lulu (Georgia Groome – Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging), but little do the boys know, their partners have other plans for the night ahead…

With appearances from the inimitable Big Narstie (The Big Narstie Show), and renowned actor and director Dexter Fletcher (Eddie The Eagle, Rocketman), Double Date is fun, ferocious, and full of surprises.

The iconic Prince Charles Cinema will be hosting a special screening of Double Date on Thursday 5 September, followed by a Q&A with the director Benjamin Barfoot, producer Matt Wilkinson, and stars Michael Socha and Danny Morgan.
