Frogtown comes to Blu-Ray from Arrow films!!!!

Arrow Video will be releasing cult favourite "Hell Comes to Frogtown" to UK disc later this month in a special BD/DVD combo pack. This strictly limited edition (1000 copies) will be available to own in the UK on 27th January and features packaging that will showcase the original poster artwork as well as a reversible sleeve with newly commissioned artwork by Jeff Zornow.

With the 20th Century drawing to a close, nuclear war has wiped out civilization as we know it. The embattled human race’s last remaining hope lies with one man and his loaded weapon.

Sam Hell may be an ex-con, but he also happens to be one of the last surviving fertile men on the planet. Now, under the custody of a group of feisty female fighters, Sam finds himself enlisted on a mission to impregnate a harem of beauties. Sounds cushy enough, but the ladies in question are prisoners of Frogtown – home to a gang of mutant (and ill-mannered) amphibians!

Starring wrestler-turned-actor Rowdy Roddy Piper, known to John Carpenter enthusiasts for his body-slamming and bubblegum-chewing antics in "They Live", "Hell Comes to Frogtown" is unashamedly a B-movie through and through with more guns and girls than you can shake a frog’s leg at.

"Frankenstein : The True Story" comes to UK DVD

One of the most acclaimed versions of Mary Shelley’s classic, "Frankenstein: The True Story", featuring a stellar all-star cast including James Mason and Leonard Whiting, makes its UK DVD debut this March thanks to Second Sight Films.

In 19th century England, Dr Victor Frankenstein (Whiting – Romeo and Juliet), bitter over his brother’s untimely death, voices his wish that men could have power over life and death. Following a chance encounter with Dr Henry Clerval (David McCallum - NCIS, The Man from UNCLE), a surgeon experimenting in this very field, they join forces and Victor achieves the impossible, the creation of life. He creates a handsome, highly intelligent young man (Michael Sarrazin – The Gumball Rally), but unforeseen problems and the involvement of evil scientist Dr Polidori (James Mason – North By Northwest, Salems Lot) lead to shocking, unimaginable horror.

Nic Cage and John Cusack on "Frozen Ground"

It seems like every 5 minutes there's another Nicolas Cage film coming out, either on disc or at the cinema. Well here's another one. Koch Media will be releasing THE FROZEN GROUND, starring Nicolas Cage and John Cusack onto disc this January.

Directed by Scott Walker, THE FROZEN GROUND is the terrifying true story surrounding one of America’s most notorious serial killers.

When teenage prostitute Cindy Paulson (Vanessa Hudgens - "Sukerpunch") is found by police officers - beaten and pleading for her life - in an Alaskan motel room, everyone is quick to dismiss her version of events.  However, US state trooper Sgt. Jack Halcombe (Nicolas Cage), soon comes to believe that Cindy is the only surviving victim of a local serial killer, Robert C. Hansen (John Cusack - "2012"), responsible for a series of murders of young women in the past decade. Lacking the support of his department, Halcombe must find Cindy, gain her trust and form an unlikely partnership in order to track down the man who still wants to kill her.

Also starring Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, the film is released to UK DVD and BD from 13th January.

"You're Next" - UK DVD/BD review.

"You're Next" is out on UK DVD and Blu-Ray this month from Lionsgate films, and I was fortunate enough to get an advanced look at the DVD.

A wealthy retired couple are having a family re-union at their remote country mansion, with their  4 grown children and their respective partners. When their party is gatecrashed by a group of masked attackers, who proceed to fire crossbow bolts at them from outside.

Having either killed, or injured, several family members, the killers subsequently try to enter the house to finish them off. Only to come up against young Erin (Sharni Vinson - Bait 3D), one of the son's new girlfriends.

It seems her father was an ardent survivalist and she happens to know a thing or two about military training. As the intruders discover, as she turns the tables on them, laying traps, and taking them out with various kitchen utensils and items from the father's toolbox.

Rather like an extremely violent cross between "Panic Room" and "Home Alone", I found this film to be tremendous fun. It was good to see a story in which the heroine is an arse-kicker, who's not content to just knock her attacker down, but to repetedly pound his head till she knows he isn't getting up again (a first I think)!

Directed by Adam Winguard (V/H/S) and featuring horror veteran Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator), along with appearances by film makers Joe Swanberg (V/H/S) and Ti West (Cabin Fever 2), "You're Next" was definitely one of my favourite cinema releases of 2013.  Being action packed, full of gore and containing some wicked black humour, as we discover that everyday household items, like a tenderising hammer, or kitchen blender, can be just as lethal as an axe or machete when put in the right hands.

The film is released to UK DVD and Blu-Ray January 13th. Extras on the disc include a 10 minute "Making-of" feature, which includes interviews with director, cast and crew and 2x Audio commentary tracks that accompany the main feature. The first with director Adam Winguard and writer Simon Barret, in which they mostly discuss the technical aspects of the films. And the second, which also features Winguard and Barret, but are joined by stars Sharni Vinson and Barbara Crampton, which is slightly more jovial, as the 4 share their various anecdotes about their time on set.

The advertising blurb claims "You're Next" was one of the most talked about about horror movies of 2013. I'm not sure how accurate that is, but I do know that I thoroughly enjoyed it and found it extremely entertaining, so would highly reccomend picking this one up on disc when it's released.
