Lake Placid Legacy - UK DVD review

Well it seems 3 sequels and a crossover movie with the Anaconda franchise wasn't enough for the overly long series of Killer Croc films as we now have a sixth installment, in the form of Lake Placid Legacy, which is out now on UK DVD.

Ignoring the sequels, with a plot that tenuously links it directly to the first. A group of eco-warriors receive a challenge from one of their former members as to who can be the first to check out an abandoned research facility, located in the middle of a lake, which is hidden from maps and GPS devices.

But they arrive only to find not only did their former assosiate beat them to it, but him and his group have been torn to pieces by something very large and unfriendly. It also seems that the research facility they went to investigate was also abandoned in a hurry.

Yes, its seems a remnant from the facilities experimental days, namely a giant killer croc, is rampaging around the island and following an incident with their dinghy, the group find  themselves stranded there, as they try to find a way back off before they all get eaten, as various members get picked off in loving detail by the giant croc.

Starring Katherine Barrell and Tim Rozon from TV's Wynona Earp along with former Hollyoaks actor Maxim Baldry and a bunch of other people you've probably seen on some TV show or other. If you like the other Lake Placid sequels, you should enjoy this, it does take a while to get going though, but is otherwise relatively entertaining for what it is.

The disc is bare bones, with just the usual basic menus and chapter selection pages, and does not contain any supplemental features.

ASH VS THE EVIL DEAD - Series 3 arrives on UK Disc.

Horror icon Bruce Campbell is back for the ultimate instalment of Ash vs Evil Dead, a bloody, violent, yet fun horror comedy adventure that continues the legacy of Sam Raimi’s beloved franchise.

Returning to his fan favourite role decades after he last charmed us as the chiseled, chainsaw-wielding anti-hero, Bruce Campbell confidently reminds us of how he came to be the face of the celebrated franchise. No longer constrained by a film’s run-time, Ash vs Evil Dead gives fans hours of gloriously gory action, as well as an unprecedented look at the battle-worn man who once defeated the Army of Darkness.

Ash isn’t alone in his quest to end the deadite plague however. Joined by a supporting cast of young sidekicks caught up in the wild ride, and a powerful performance from the legendary Lucy Lawless, our hero is surrounded by both perfect partners and worthy opposition to his trademark charm.

The X-Files Complete Series 1-11 comes to UK Disc

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of a pop culture phenomenon with all 218 episodes in one place for the very first time. Mind-bending intrigue and extraterrestrial encounters await in the ultimate collection for any THE X-FILES fan on UK BD and DVD!

Inspired by a growing distrust in government and a fondness for the supernatural, Chris Carter’s pilot for The X-Files first hit our screens in 1993, and a cult classic was born. Like many worldwide, we were captivated by both the evolving mythos of Mulder and Scully’s quest for the truth, as well as spectacular moments where the series taught us to sympathise with monsters both figurative and literal.

Not only is this complete collection a prime opportunity to re-experience the beginnings of a phenomenon, but with guest appearances by actors like Ryan Reynolds, Aaron Paul and Shia LeBouf years before they achieved international stardom, earlier seasons can feel like a Who’s Who of future celebrities! Bryan Cranston’s performance as a one off appearance as a sympathetic villain even led to his eventual iconic casting in Breaking Bad.

With all 218 episodes, you’ll be entertained for days to come with this box set that compiles not just the nine beloved classic seasons, but also the tenth and eleventh seasons of the series’ highly anticipated revival.

Special Features:
- Audio commentary on selected episodes
- Deleted scenes
- Documentaries
- Featurettes
- Special Effects sequences
- Interviews with Chris Carter and cast
- Gag reels
- Implanted Memories: 25 Years of The X-Files (Available only on Blu-ray)

NANCY premieres at the BFI Film festival Oct, and released to DVD and Digital Nov

Starring a career-defining performance from Andrea Riseborough as the titular anti-hero, psychological thriller NANCY will premiere at BFI London Film Festival on 13 October, ahead of releasing on DVD and Digital Download 5 November, courtesy of STUDIOCANAL.

Directed by debutant Christina Choe – Winner of the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at Sundance Film Festival 2018, and nominated at this year’s Film by the Sea International Film Festival, Hamburg, Sitges and Deauville Film Festivals – NANCY traces the way truth and fantasy bleed into one other in the mind of a woman on the fringes of society, who is increasingly convinced she was kidnapped as a child.

Craving connection with others, Nancy (Andrea Riseborough, The Death of Stalin, Mindhorn) creates elaborate pseudonyms on the internet. When she meets couple Leo (Steve Buscemi, Fargo, Reservoir Dogs) and Ellen (J. Smith Cameron, Christine, The Good Wife) whose daughter went missing thirty years ago, fact and fiction begin to blur in Nancy’s mind.

As their bond deepens she becomes increasingly convinced these strangers are her real parents and reasonable doubts give way to wilful belief until the power of emotion threatens to overcome all rationality.

Unique, thoughtful and disturbing – NANCY is a rare portrayal of a flawed but authentic female character, illustrated with striking cinematic realism.
