Blair Witch - UK BD review.

Supernatural shocker Blair Witch, the sequel to 1999s “Blair Witch Project” comes to UK Disc and Digital this month from Lionsgate.

Some 22 years after a group of student film makers went missing in the Black Hills Forest in Maryland (remember, the original took place in 1994) and the brother of one of them ventures into the woods with some friends, armed with camcorders, hoping to find clues as to their disappearance, after new film footage of them surfaces on the internet.

Taking with them an internet blogger, who found the tapes in the woods, and a stack of high tech gadgets to help them navigate their way, they soon encounter all sorts of weird goings on. Strange noises, odd appearances, strange stick figures etc before getting hopelessly lost, much like what happened to the original film makers, when their gadgets predicatbly fail.

Directed by Adam Winguard (V/H/S), and filmed in the same style as the original, whether you will like this will depend on your love of found footage films. Personally, I’m not a fan of this sub-genre and found this to be a bit of a chore as it was basically a retread of the first with the exact same things happening to them and nothing much else.

Plus I was a little confused, as there was a sequel back in 2000 entitled “Book of Shadows : Blair Witch 2”, in which it was established the events of the first film were fictional, as it revolved around a group of movie fans visiting the film locations. So I guess that never happened now?

Anyway, the film is available Digitally in the UK now. With a BD and DVD released on Jan 26th. If you’re a fan of the original, you’ll probably enjoy it!

Extras on the discs include a director’s commentary track and a behind the scenes feature.
