The film stars Caroline Quigley (best known for Beezel) as a woman who, after a strange and unsettling encounter with a black widow spider, inexplicably finds herself pregnant. As she gives birth to a mysterious child, a shadowy cult begins to gather outside her home, seemingly drawn by dark, supernatural forces.
The film serves as an homage to classics like Rosemary’s Baby, Carrie, and Prince of Darkness. But beyond its nods to genre films, it also functions as a metaphor for the terrifying rise of fascism and the dangers of cult leadership.
The inspiration for the story came from a deeply personal experience: in 2020, the same week we entered quarantine, the Director found out his wife was pregnant. Navigating the anxieties of having a child during a global pandemic was deeply unsettling, and those fears found their way into the narrative. ing tide of fascism was equally alarming. Witnessing the growing influence of dangerous leaders and the indoctrination of ordinary people became a central theme of the film.
As a lifelong fan of the horror genre, Director B.C. Jones felt that this was the perfect vessel for his anxieties about the world—and hopes THE RED HOURGLASS resonates with audiences on a deep, unsettling level.
