Lucio Fulci's THE PSYCHIC - on Disc and Digital, August.

Shameless is proud to present Lucio 'The Godfather of Gore' Fulci's THE PSYCHIC (aka Murder To the Tune of the Seven Black Notes) like never seen before, extensively restored from new 2K-scanned materials.

Jennifer O'Neill, fresh from Luchino Visconti’s The Innocent, plays Virginia, a woman who has had psychic powers since childhood when she sensed her mother’s suicide…

Now newly-married, Virginia becomes plagued by waking visions of bloody deaths and meaningless torment. With the aid of her parapsychologist friend (Marc Porel), she tries to uncover the meaning of the horrific visions only to discover they are premonitions of future deaths…

Get ready for a Hitchcockian whodunit like no other. From the visionary Lucio Fulci, enter the disjointed universe of THE PSYCHIC where reality and dreams, the dead and the living, the past and present are all interconnected. In the words of Stephen Thrower, "The Psychic deserves careful consideration as one of Fulci's best films".

Josh Ruben's SCARE ME - on Disc and Digital, August

Critically acclaimed comedy horror hit SCARE ME, from Josh Ruben in his feature directorial debut, which he also writes and stars in, makes its UK Blu-ray debut this August from Acorn Media International in conjunction with Shudder, following its success on the streaming service.

A chance meeting between new in town Fred (Josh Ruben) and renowned author Fanny (Aya Cash - The Boys, You’re The Worst) results in the beginning of a ‘friendship’. During a power outage, they decide to tell each other scary stories.

With the pizza delivery driver (Chris Redd - Saturday Night Live) joining in with the fun, the two grow increasingly competitive. The more they commit to their tales, the more real the stories become. As Fred’s masculine pride is challenged, fiction turns to fact as the terror gets all too real...

There may not be monsters and ghouls but Scare Me will still have you cowering behind the sofa with vivid storytelling akin to those dark nights around a campfire. Set to be released on 16 August 2021 on Blu-ray, DVD and digital, this is one horror that will have you both laughing your socks off and scared silly.

Barbara Crampton stars in JAKOB'S WIFE - streaming exclusively on Shudder

SHUDDER, the premium streaming service for horror, thrillers and the supernatural, is delighted to announce that JAKOB’S WIFE will stream exclusively on Shudder from 19 August 2021.

Director and co-writer Travis Stevens (Girl on the Third Floor) and his co-producer Barbara Crampton bring a contemporary, insightful and often very funny reinterpretation of the classic vampire movie theme in this story of a dull, comfortable marriage which suddenly receives a sharp-fanged jolt.

Anne is in her late 50s and feels like her life and marriage have been shrinking over the past thirty years. Through a chance encounter with a stranger, she discovers a new sense of power and an appetite to live bigger and bolder than before. However, these changes come with a toll on her marriage and a heavy body count.

Featuring a joyous central performance from horror icon Barbara Crampton (You’re Next, Re-Animator), who skilfully weaves in her own remarkable off-screen journey through horror history, alongside genre legend Larry Fessenden (The Dead Don’t Die), Bonnie Aarons (The Nun), Nyisha Bell (Holla), Mark Kelly (Fear the Walking Dead), Sarah Lind (The Exorcism of Molly Hartley), Robert Rusler (Weird Science), and Phil Brooks aka CM Punk (Girl on the Third Floor), JAKOB’S WIFE is a full-bloodied rallying cry to grab life (and death) by the throat and reclaim your place in the world in all its gory glory.

JAKOB’S WIFE is written by Mark Steensland, Kathy Charles and Travis Stevens and produced by Barbara Crampton, Bob Portal, Inderpal Singh and Travis Stevens. Executive producers are Rick Moore, James Norrie and Nina Kolokouri. Director of photography is David Matthews, and the film is edited by Aaron Crozier and Travis Stevens. Original score is by Tara Busch.

FrightFest thirsts for new blood...

As Arrow Video FrightFest stalks the dark recesses of the big screen again, the search resumes for new writers in the horror genre through its New Blood initiative. New Blood reunites FrightFest with Giles Edwards of Queensbury Pictures with its mission to find emerging UK-based writers dedicated to the genre and nurture their projects from script to screen.

Queensbury is ultimately interested in buying the finished script rather than the idea, and so, this year all successful final candidates if selected should be able to send even a rough draft of the first ten pages of their script through with their acceptance.

Already the scheme has delivered two new projects: Broadcast Signal Intrusion, written by Phil Drinkwater and Tim Woodall and directed by Jacob Gentry (The Signal) which World Premiered to enormous acclaim at SXSW 2021 and will come home to screen at FrightFest this August and The Change, written by Carina Rodney and optioned by acclaimed producer Jennifer Handorf (The Borderlands, The Chamber).

The successful shortlisted applicants will workshop their ideas in a group setting under the guidance of top industry professionals and genre experts. Among this year’s panel are 2021 Variety Magazine 'Director to Watch', recipient Prano Bailey-Bond and acclaimed writer / director of CENSOR, Jed Shepherd, co-writer of 2020’s genre sensation HOST and Rob Savage’s upcoming secret Blumhouse project, Najarra Townsend, actress and producer, THE STYLIST and Queensbury Pictures’ Giles Edwards.

Giles Edwards of Queensbury Pictures said, “Having already achieved the initial aim of New Blood, with the discovery of the phenomenal script Broadcast Signal Intrusion from Phil and Tim which then exceeded our wildest expectations as a finished feature, and the amazing Jennifer Handorf falling for Carina’s *absolutely wild* The Change, we’re more adamant than ever that the cream of UK genre writing talent is out there, just waiting for the opportunity to wrench our collective gut with their visions of true terror.”

Greg Day, co-director of FrightFest added, “For FrightFest to be continuing to support and enable aspiring scriptwriters to have this opportunity is very gratifying, especially as Giles and Queensbury Pictures have proved that they really mean business and are not just playing industry lip-service. Good luck to the New Blood class of 2021.”

The New Blood networking and workshop event will be held on Thursday 26 August, the opening day of this year’s festival, in a Central London venue

Applications are open from Monday 12th July with potential participants asked to submit a 400 word proposal through the dedicated New Blood page on the FrightFest website and if selected, each writer is expected to submit the first ten pages of their script idea. The deadline is Sunday 26th July.  All successful applicants will be notified by the 31st of July and then will be requested to send over their sample script pages. All participants are expected to pay for their own travel and accommodation.

Indie horror CLIMATE OF THE HUNTER arrives in the UK this August

Bulldog Film Distribution announces the release of cult film-maker Mickey Reece’s acclaimed festival hit CLIMATE OF THE HUNTER. The film premiered at Dundead horror festival on 10th July and have previews with select cinemas on Friday 13th August, before arriving on digital platforms to rent and download-to-own from Monday 23rd August.

Two sisters, Alma and Elizabeth, along with a dog who’s described as a “philosopher,” have come to Alma’s remote house to reconnect with Wesley after twenty years. Alma is recently divorced, Elizabeth is a workaholic in Washington, D.C., while Wesley lives in Paris dealing with a wife recently struck with a fatal disease.

When the three come together for dinner it has all the makings of a lovely adult melodrama about loneliness, and the desire to connect and share our lives with someone… but we must add to the mix one otherworldly piece of information: Wesley could be a vampire.

A cross between Euro-horror classic Daughters of Darkness and George Romero’s vampire tale Martin, with a rural lo-fi charm all of its own, CLIMATE OF THE HUNTER is directed by the highly prolific Oklahoma-based film-maker Mickey Reece. Dubbed the “Soderbergh of the sticks”, Reece (whose latest film Agnes premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival this month) has been honing his craft making films for over a decade, building up a loyal cult following who love his idiosyncratic flair, literate scripts and defiantly independent approach.

After premiering at last year’s prestigious Fantasia Film Festival, now UK audiences have a chance to enjoy a slice of lovingly made, home-cooked slow burn horror from a talented writer/director genuinely worth getting excited by [a selection of other films by Reece will also be available to stream courtesy of Bulldog Film Distribution .
