Bring in the New Year with Rob Zombie's THE MUNSTERS on Disc!

Mediumrare Entertainment announces the horror comedy THE MUNSTERS is being released on Collector’s Edition DVD and Blu-ray on 2 January 2023, complete with must-see extra features.

 

From writer/director Rob Zombie (The Devil’s Rejects) comes the strangest love story ever told! Based on the beloved TV series from the 1960s about a family of friendly monsters trying to fit in, Zombie’s version features Sheri Moon Zombie (Halloween) and Jeff Daniel Phillips (Westworld) as Lily and Herman Munster, and Daniel Roebuck (Final Destination) as The Count. The cast also includes Doctor Who himself, Sylvester McCoy, as Igor, Lost star Jorge Garcia, and genre superstar Cassandra Peterson, better known as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark.

Lily is just your typical 150-year-old, lovelorn vampire looking for the man of her nightmares . . . that is until she lays eyes on Herman, a seven-foot-tall, green experiment with a heart of gold. It’s love at first shock as these two ghouls fall fangs over feet in this crazy Transylvanian romance. Unfortunately, it’s not all smooth sailing in the cemetery as Lily’s father The Count has other plans for his beloved daughter’s future, and they don’t involve her bumbling beau Herman.

 

Filmed in bright day-glo colours, brimming with hilarious jokes and monstrously funny slapstick, not to mention all the werewolves, vampires and witches you can handle, this is a delightfully gothic delight that ghouls and gals of all ages will love. Action-horror series NIGHTSHADE by Neil Marshall & Simon Uttley - Coming Soon

London/Singapore-based international content investment studio 108 Media will finance, co-develop, and produce the upcoming premium live-action supernatural-action returning series NIGHTSHADE (6 x 60’) with co-showrunners Simon Uttley and Neil Marshall, who will be directing the pilot.

Sprung from the deep genre wellspring of the Marshall-Uttley writing partnership, the world of NIGHTSHADE is set in a bustling 18th century English port city visited by a diverse manner of international traders, rogues, and vagabonds. 

We meet our heroine – the half English and half Indian outcast Lizzie Monroe who transforms herself into a defiant masked outlaw avenger – Nightshade – to rescue her brother James from the treacherous underworld realm of The Veil, where werewolves, demons, warlocks, and evil creatures beyond our imagination reside, after he is slain by a monstrous satanic cult run by powerfully sinister men in politics, religion, and industry. 

During their treacherous journey back to one another, the Monroes will discover that the supernatural forces arrayed against them represent merely the vanguard of a far greater threat and that they are caught in the opening salvos of a war between humanity and the forces of darkness.

Having helmed some of the most iconic genre touchpoints in films (Dog Soldiers, The Descent, Hellboy) and television (Games of Thrones, Westworld, Timeless, Hannibal, Lost in Space, Constantine) as a writer-director in the past two decades, the Emmy-nominated Neil Marshall notes – “Make no mistake about it, this will be a Neil Marshall show through and through. When it’s scary, and it will be, often, then it will be very scary. When it’s necessary to be violent, it will be violent. Every punch will land hard and break bones, and every sword thrust will cut and sting.”

Co-showrunner Simon Uttley, who conceptualised the world-building with Marshall and will co-write the series adds – “We could not be more excited to bring the story of Nightshade to the screen with our partners at 108 Media. EuroObscura Movies - Now Available on Prime Video in the UK

KING KONG (1976) - 4K re-issue coming December from StudioCanal.

STUDIOCANAL have announced a brand new 4K restoration of John Guillermin’s (Blazing Inferno, Death on the Nile) Academy Award Winning remake of iconic Hollywood classic, KING KONG (1976).  

 

Fred Wilson (Charles Grodin), an employee of a large American oil company, has been charged with a mission to find new oil wells. With a chartered boat, he sets off on a journey to an uninhabited island in the South Pacific. On board is also a stowaway: the palaeontologist Jack Prescott (Jeff Bridges) has smuggled himself onto the ship, as he hopes to examine a rare species of monkey on this island. On the way, after a violent storm, the expedition also takes on board the shipwrecked Dawn (Jessica Lange), who is floating in a lifeboat at sea.  

 

When the ship anchors off the island, however, it turns out not to be as uninhabited as everyone once thought. The natives of the island perform a strange ritual to worship a larger-than-life ape named "Kong".   As soon as they catch sight of the blonde Dawn, they decide they have found their perfect offering.  

 

Starring Jeff Bridges (The Big Lebowski, Crazy Heart, True Grit) and Jessica Lange (Tootsie, American Horror Story), and produced by Hollywood legend Dino de Laurentiis (Flash Gordon, Nights of Cabiria, Barbarella), this retelling of the classic monster adventure film went on to jointly win the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects (Carlo Rambaldi, Glen Robinson and Frank Van der Veer), as well as receiving Academy Award nominations for Best Cinematography (Richard H. Kline) and Best Sound (Harry W. Tetrick, William McCaughey, Aaron Rochin and Jack Solomon). Jessica Lange was also honoured as Best new Actress for her role at the Golden Globes that same year. 

 

Now restored in 4K for the first time, STUDIOCANAL will re-release the film across 4K UHD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital as well as a 4K UHD Steelbook from December 5. 

 

New artworks have been created for the Home Entertainment releases by graphic designer Sophie Bland, and for the 4K UHD Steelbook release by Francesco Francavilla. The 4K UHD will include a limited-edition poster of Sophie Bland’s artwork.
