THE IGUANA WITH THE TONGUE OF FIRE on UK Blu-ray this April

Arrow video are to release Riccardo Freda's cult Giallo THE IGUANA WITH THE TONGUE OF FIRE to UK Blu-Ray, along with a limited edition soundtrack on 12" vinyl of Stelvio Cipriani's score, this April.

Set in Dublin (a rather surprising giallo location), Iguana opens audaciously with an acid-throwing, razor-wielding maniac brutally slaying a woman in her own home. The victim’s mangled corpse is discovered in a limousine owned by Swiss Ambassador Sobiesky (Anton Diffring, Where Eagles Dare) and a police investigation is launched, but when the murdering continues and the ambassador claims diplomatic immunity, tough ex-cop John Norton (Luigi Pistilli, A Bay of Blood) is brought in to find the killer…

One of several ‘animal-in-the-title’ cash-ins released in the wake of Dario Argento’s box-office smash The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, THE IGUANA WITH THE TONGUE OF FIRE is a gloriously excessive giallo that boasts a rogues gallery of perverse characters; violent, fetishized murders, and one of the genre’s most nonsensical, red-herring laden plots (which sees almost every incidental character hinted at potentially being the killer).

Sci-fi thriller BEYOND THE SKY on DVD 29th April

An engrossing supernatural thriller that at times feels like a found-footage documentary, "Beyond The Sky" is both an evocative journey into the unknown, and a portrait of the community built around one of modern day’s most prolific myths.

Ryan Carnes (Doctor Who) confidently leads the film as an abrasive sceptic convinced that recollections of abductions are false memories made to mask other traumas. His distrust of the stories he hears allows the film to play with our own beliefs and expectations alongside his, as we become equally unsure of what truth really is out there. If Carnes is the film’s yin, then Jordan Hinson (Eureka) is the yang balancing each others’ on-screen presence. A young and friendly woman, she’s terrified of what awaits her, but equally determined to find out what role she really plays in this chilling tale.

Don Davis of The Matrix fame compliments "Beyond The Sky" with a fantastic score that seamlessly wraps itself around all the twists and turns of the story, elevating the tension to new heights. With experience mostly in shorts and television, Chris Saul makes a name for himself here with the breathtaking visuals that deserve to cement him as a cinematographer to watch.

Filmed in New Mexico, home of the infamous Roswell incident, "Beyond The Sky" embraces the on-and-off screen legacy of extraterrestrial icons with guest appearances from self-proclaimed abductee Travis Walton, E.T.’s Dee Wallace and Prison Break's Peter Stormare!

CANDYMAN : FAREWELL TO THE FLESH - UK BD review

Cliver Barker's malevolent monster The Candyman comes to New Orleans in CANDYMAN : FAREWELL TO THE FLESH (AKA Candyman 2).  Bill Condon's 1995 follow up to Bernard Rose's original 1993 shocker, which makes its UK Blu-Ray debut this month in an extras laden disc, courtesy of 88 films.

Annie Tarrant (Kelly Rowan - Assassins) is a New Orlean's school teacher, whose brother Ethan (William O'Leary - Terminator 3) has been arrested following the brutal death of a University lecturer, who he had earlier attacked in a bar.

It seems the lecturer, Philip Purcell (Michael Culkin reprising his role from the previous film) had been in town promoting his book about the legend of the Candyman. But of course the police don't believe Ethan's story about hook handed killer's appearing from mirror's after saying their name 5 times, and think he's probably the one responsible.

Unfortunately for Annie, the Candyman is all too real and now appears to be after her and the rest of her family. But after doing some digging into his origins, it seems there's a reason he has set his sights on her and a terrible family secret is about to be uncovered.

Also starring Veronica Cartwright (Alien, Invasion of the Body Snatchers), Bill Nunn (Spider-Man) and of course horror veteran Tony Todd (Night of the Living Dead 1990, Final Destination) as the Candyman himself. This is a worthy follow up by director Bill Condon (Gods and Monsters) to the original film, which itself was an adaptation of the Clive Barker story "Forbidden", and is an excellent supernatural shocker.

SURVIVAL OF THE FILM FREAKS Nears Pre-Order Campaign Goal

With just about twenty days left in the campaign, the award-winning cult cinema documentary Survival Of The Film Freaks is only 25% away from reaching their funding goal. 

Through IndieGoGo, fans have the opportunity to pre-order their copy of the film on Blu-ray or DVD and grab exclusive campaign-only perks, like a physical cassette or digital download of the film’s soundtrack, an exclusive limited poster and limited t-shirt with artwork by Pizza Party Printing, and a perk where the backer can pick a film for directors Kyle and Bill to provide commentary. The campaign will also fund the digital release of the film.

Survival Of The Film Freaks is a documentary exploring the phenomenon of cult film and how it survives in the 21st Century. Through interviews with cult icons such as Ted Raimi and Lloyd Kaufman, alongside modern-day filmmakers like Adam Green and Jackson Stewart, Film Freaks examines decades of film fanaticism and how the 'digital age' has transformed the way we experience movies. At the helm of Film Freaks is the directing duo of Bill Fulkerson (host of Outside The Cinema Podcast) and Kyle Kuchta (Fantasm), who have spent the last three years making the documentary.

The film premiered at HorrorHound Weekend Film Festival in August 2018, where it was nominated for Best Picture. It was screened and awarded at various festivals throughout the country including Shawna Shea Film Festival (winner of Best Documentary of the Festival), Sin City Horror Festival (Winner of Best Editing) and Knoxville Horror Film Festival (Winner of Special Jury Prize for Most Connection With Audience).

Coming up in April, Horror Channel premieres two playfully affecting horror comedies that both pack a mighty punch. 

Todd Strauss-Schulson’s entertainingly subversive slasher fantasy THE FINAL GIRLS, receives its UK TV premiere on Fri 19th April, 9pm, whilst Tom Holland’s voracious vampire classic FRIGHT NIGHT will get its Channel premiere on Sat 13th April, 9pm. 

Also, on Friday 12th April, 9pm, there is a TV first for Takashi Shimizu’s turbulence-driven supernatural thriller FLIGHT 7500, starring Amy Smart and Ryan Kwanten.

ALIEN 40TH ANNIVERSARY - All-new 4K Ultra HD & BD out 22nd April

In space no one can hear you scream. The terrifying sci-fi adventure, ALIEN, celebrates 40 years with an all-new 4K Ultra HD master, available April 22. A limited edition 4K UHD SteelBook of ALIEN 40th Anniversary Edition will also be available exclusively at Zavvi.

In the film that birthed the wildly successful ALIEN franchise, the crew of the deep space tug Nostromo awaken from stasis during a voyage home to Earth when their ship’s computer detects what is believed to be an alien distress signal coming from the desolate nearby moon, LV-426. 

While investigating, one of the crew, Kane (John Hurt), is attacked by an alien creature that latches to his face and he is rushed back to the Nostromo to receive medical treatment. Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), the ship’s warrant officer, advises against Kane’s return due to quarantine regulations - but her orders are ignored by Ash (Ian Holm), bringing the Nostromo under threat from a mysterious, extraterrestrial apex predator with violent and lethal survival instincts.

The film was restored in 4K in 2018 by 20th Century Fox at Company 3/Deluxe Entertainment Services Group, supervised by Ridley Scott and Pam Dery, with the 4K scans done at EFilm.
