DEAD NIGHT on UK DVD October 8th

Following its European Premiere at Arrow Video FrightFest 2018, STUDIOCANAL announces that DEAD NIGHT will be arriving on DVD and Digital Download 8 October 2018 – just in time for Halloween!

James, his wife Casey, their two kids Jessica and Jason, and sick friend Becky head to a remote cabin in Oregon for a weekend trip. When James ventures into the dark forest looking for firewood, he encounters an enigmatic woman passed out in the snow. 

Bringing her back to the cabin for help, the family has no way of knowing that her wicked presence will be the catalyst for a series of horrifying events that will change their lives forever. DEAD NIGHT is The Shining meets Cabin in The Woods in a very modern horror full of twists and turns.

Everything and anything goes in to this ambitiously quirky delight, oozing eeriness and evil, from the producers of John Dies At The End and Phantasm: Ravager.

BAD SAMARITAN coming to UK DVD October

One bad night - one bad decision - can haunt you forever, as Misfits and Mute star Robert Sheehan goes up against Jessica Jones and Doctor Who star David Tennant, here on sensationally nasty form, in a white-knuckle home invasion thriller from the producers of Independence Day.

Struggling photographer Sean Falco (Sheehan), who funds his lifestyle with a sideline in burglary, thinks he has hit the jackpot when he breaks into the luxurious house of the wealthy Cale Erendreich (Tennant).  

Things go wrong when Sean discovers a woman chained up in the house. Unable to free her before Cale returns, Sean reluctantly goes to the police to explain what he’s seen. By the time they investigate, Cale has covered his tracks, and the police tell Sean to stop harassing him. Sean soon realises Cale will stop at nothing to shut him up - permanently.

REVENGE - A Review

Hell hath no fury like a woman with a pump action shotgun in Coralie Fargeat's vigilante thriller REVENGE which is out on Digital this month.

Jen (Matilda Lutz  - Rings) is taken away by her boss Richard (Kevin Janssens - TV's Salamander) for a dirty weekend at his remote luxury condo, which happens to be on the edge of a desert.

But when a couple of his friends, who he'd planned a hunting trip with, show up early and the booze and drugs start flowing. Things quickly get out of hand once Richard's back is turned.

When Jen threatens to expose their affair if he doesn't do something about them, he decides instead that its easier to silence Jen. But despite suffering terrible injuries, she manages to escape and a dangerous game of cat and mouse ensues accross the desert.

Owing more than just a passing nod to I Spit on Your Grave, though not as explicit, REVENGE is an exceptionally gritty and brutal shocker bound to leave audiences squirming in places. Matilda Lutz, who seems to spend most of the film in a crop-top and thong, whilst bagged down with shotguns and cartridge belts, was certainly very easy on the eye, despite being covered in blood and dirt for the most part.

Only negative thing I would say is that whilst most of the film is in English, much of the dialogue between the 3 male leads is in French. So I found the constant switching between English and French throughout the film somewhat distracting. 

Also, many would point out that in reality, the injuries the female lead would have undoubtedly sustained would have prevented her transformation into this "John Rambo" type character she becomes.

But these criticisms aside, I still really enjoyed this and cult movie fans should love it. 

REVENGE is released in the UK digitally from September 7th.

Video Nasty comic book writer Mario Covone makes directorial debut with OVERTIME

Mario Covone, writer of 2014’s critically acclaimed Reaper Comics horror series, Video Nasty, will make his feature film directorial debut helming horror movie OVERTIME. 

OVERTIME centres on a teacher working late into the night at school, seemingly alone. But a presence is watching him from the shadows. Stalked through the winding corridors and trapped within, a sinister secret holds the key to his survival.

No stranger to political subtext within his work, Covone’s movie, which he has also written, explores the real-world issues of violence in schools, and the dangers of media scaremongering, whilst maintaining a traditional horror backdrop with twists and turns aplenty.

The cast and creative team will be revealed soon, as will the poster artwork, being designed by horror industry legend Graham Humphreys. Humphreys also painted the covers for Covone’s Video Nasty comic book run.

After the success of Video Nasty, Britain’s biggest selling independent comic series of all time, Covone set up his production company, Miracle World Productions, which is producing the film, due to start shooting in Jan 2019.

Covone said today: "Comics will always be a passion of mine, both reading and creating. But I feel the urge to test my metal in a new medium, one that I’m equally passionate about”.

Mayhem Film Festival reveals full 2018 line-up

Mayhem are proud to announce our full line-up for our 2018 edition, which will take place at Broadway, Nottingham on 11-14 October. The festival showcases the best features and short films in horror, sci-fi and cult cinema, through premieres, previews, and guested screenings each year.

Mayhem 2018 starts as it means to go on with Scottish zombie musical Anna and the Apocalypse, which opens the festival on Thursday 11 October, and will be followed by a Q&A with director John McPhail. Aislinn Clarke will present a screening of her found-footage chiller The Devil’s Doorway, set in one of Ireland’s notorious Magdalene asylums. Writer-director Marc Price (smash-hit zombie flick Colin) will also attend the festival to present his action-packed crime-thriller Nightshooters, where things get messy when a hapless film crew on a late-night shoot accidentally record a gangland execution.

Mayhem’s 14th edition will play host to no fewer than three UK Premieres, with exclusive first screenings of Nosipho Dumisa’s Cape Town-set Hitchcock homage Number 37, slow-burning science-fiction indie Prospect, and – as previously announced – Shinsuke Sato’s live-action manga adaptation Inuyashiki.

Already proving popular following last month’s announcement and certain to be festival highlights are Panos Cosmatos’ cosmic fever dream Mandy, starring a truly top-form Nicolas Cage, and Japanese box-office sensation One Cut of the Dead. 

Delving into the archives, Mayhem is pleased to present a rare screening of Erik Blomberg’s strange and supernatural 1952 Finnish folktale, The White Reindeer, and the Dario Argento-produced 1985 cult classic Demons.

This year’s edition also includes screenings of horror anthologies Nightmare Cinema and The Field Guide to Evil – both previously announced – as well as preview screenings of Brazilian director Dennison Romalho’s macabre mortuary horror The Nightshifter, Nicolas Pesce’s darkly comic Piercing, starring Mia Wasikowska, the hilariously bad-taste splatterfest Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich, and haunted-house horror The Witch in the Window. Colin Minihan’s grueling survival thriller What Keeps You Alive will close the festival.

The ever-popular short film programme and Mayhem’s fiendish film quiz, The Flinterrogation - hosted by author David Flint - both return to round off this year’s line-up.
