Scottish Thriller KILL - Coming to UK cinemas 13 Sept

Kaleidoscope Entertainment is excited to announce that Scottish thriller KILL will be released in UK cinemas from the 13th September.

Produced by Scottish production company, Synchronicity Films and shot in rural Scotland, on location at an estate in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, the film represents quality Scottish filmmaking and creative output at its best.

Stalking for deer in the remote Scottish wilderness, three brothers plot to put an end to their violent and abusive father, the man responsible for the recent death of their mother. Burying Don in a shallow grave they make their way back home to their farmhouse. But what should be a new beginning could bring about their end…

Returning to the scene of the crime to retrieve the key to the family safe, and their inheritance, they begin the gruesome task of digging up their dad, only to find his body gone. Is Don really dead? Does their affable cousin know more than he’s letting on? Or is one of the brothers betraying them all?

Already weighed down by guilt and now stricken with fear, the boys begin to show their true natures as day turns to night, and their hope for freedom turns into a desperate struggle to survive. For someone is now out there in the forest, hunting them…

KILL features a star-studded, nearly all-Scottish cast including Daniel Portman (Game of Thrones), Brian Vernel (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Dunkirk), Paul Higgins (The Thick of It, Line of Duty), Calum Ross (Wednesday), and James Harkness (Darkest Hour, Rogue One).

Officially selected for the 2023 Edinburgh Film Festival, the film has already recieved a strong critical response with The Herald calling it "Taught and Original" and Loud and Clear hailing it as a "Non-Stop Thriller".

Mockumentary HAUNTED ULSTER LIVE - On UK and Irish Digital platforms, October

On Halloween night 1998, Northern Ireland TV veteran Gerry Burns teams up with popular new children's presenter Michelle Kelly to investigate poltergeist activity in a reputedly haunted house in Belfast. Light entertainment turns to horror when an unseen terror reveals itself.

Combining found footage horror, folklore and a nostalgia for regional television, HAUNTED ULSTER LIVE recreates a familiar world of 90’s light entertainment which, much like Belfast itself during the Northern Ireland Troubles, is haunted by something unseen and sinister.

Written and directed by Dominic O’Neill, the film premiered at FrightFest 2023 with an Irish premiere at Belfast Film Festival and earned acclaim at leading international genre film festivals including Fantaspoa and Panic Fest.

HAUNTED ULSTER LIVE is available on Digital platforms in the UK and Ireland from the 14th October

WINNIE THE POOH: BLOOD AND HONEY 2 - UK BD review.

Just when you thought it was safe to return to the 100 Acres wood, along comes WINNIE THE POOH: BLOOD AND HONEY 2, the blood soaked sequel to the 2023 indie horror hit.

Several years after the events of the first film and Christopher Robin, played this time by Scott Chambers (Dr Jeckyll - 2023), the sole survivor of the 100 acres massacre, is now a medical student who is struggling to put the events of the past behind him.

When another group of people are brutally slain in the woods one night, the locals think Christopher was the one behind it. As, needless to say, no one believes his stories about the murderous Pooh bear.

But, as the people in the village are about to find out, the stories of Pooh and his psychotic animal friends are all too real, and Texas isn't the only place to experience a chainsaw massacre...

Boasting what was obviously a much larger budget, this was a real fun, gory, horror comedy. With some fantastic bloody kills, which includes a group of annoying teens getting massacred in a suitably gory fashion, and a hilarious sequence where Pooh and his friends wipe-out a group of teens partying in a warehouse in loving detail, with chainsaw, axes and bats.

If you liked the original, you'll love this. Definitely one for fans of horror comedies.

The film is currently available on Blu-Ray and DVD and is available on selected streaming services.

Taking a Break (again)!

 Hi Guys.

Life's been kinda getting on top of me lately and I'm struggling with motivation to keep on top of things, both here and in real life, so have decided to take a break from site updates for a little while.

This isn't the end, I will return, just as I did when I stepped away the other year. Also, I will  still be making the odd post over on my social media channels, so be sure to subscribe to those.

For now, I'm going to be spending time working on other projects and, in particular, trying to work on myself.

Site updates will (hopefully) return to normal sometime towards the end of the summer, if not sooner.

V/H/S/94 - UK BD Review

V/H/S/94 is the fourth in the popular series of found footage anthology films, which all revolve around some hapless person, or persons, coming across a collection of VHS tapes and discovering the disturbing content recorded on them.

This one takes place, as the title suggests, in 1994 where a SWAT team are raiding a warehouse, which is the headquarters of a bizarre religious cult, who they believe are involved with human trafficking.

Finding the cult members to have all commited ritualistic suicide, they proceed to sweep the building, where they encounter a series of TVs and projection screens, playing various disturbing films, which form the basis of the 4 grisly stories that make up the film.

The first, STORM DRAIN, follows a local TV news crew investigating reports of a Rat-Man creature that supposedly lives in the drains underneath Ohio. Only to discover it's never wise to ignore local legends.

Next, THE EMPTY WAKE, a young girl at a funeral parlour finds herself stuck in the building after hours when a flash storm and a tornado warning traps her inside, only to discover the dead body in the casket she's minding may not be willing to be interred just yet, with some wry humour and gore that should appeal to fans of Re-Animator.

The third film THE SUBJECT clearly seems to have been influenced by those Guines Pig films from the early 90s. Taking place somewhere in East Asia, the police raid the laboratory of a mad scientist they believe to be responsible for a number of dissapearances, only to find that the bizarre creations he's been working on may not let them leave.

Lastly TERROR seems to be a bizarre mash-up of Vampire lore and Monty Python, as a group of redneck survivalists think they've found the ultimate weapon to use against the Government, in a bizarre stranger they have captive, who seemingly cannot die and whose blood produces positively explosive results. What could possibly go wrong???

Of course the real twist comes in the wrap-around story with the SWAT team, who discover that whatever horrors where in the films playing in the complex, a fate potentially even more horrific awaits them...

Whether you will like this will of course depend on your love of found footage films, of which I'm not really a fan of to be honest.

That being said, V/H/S/94 isn't a bad film, and found it passed 90mins quite well. If you liked the other films in the V/H/S series, I'd say pick this one up.

Extras on the Blu-Ray include....

Film makers commentary track
Seperate audio commentary for "The Empty Wake"
Behind the Scenes Feature
San Diego Comic-Con panel
Behind the Scenes Picture Gallery
Special Effects Feature (showing how they designed the creature for "Terror")
"The Empty Wake" - Visual Effects breakdown
Hail Raatma! (a look at the Ratman suit from the first story)
6x Deleted/Extended Scenes
Bonus "Veggie Masher" commercial (full length phony advert, partly shown during "Storm Drain")

V/H/S/94 is out now on UK BD and DVD.
