Smartdog Productions is delighted to share the poster and trailer for multi-award-winning horror POST MORTEM, which will be released across all major Digital Download platforms in the UK & Ireland from 31st October.

Péter Bergendy’s period horror POST MORTEM tells the supernatural story of a post-mortem photographer and a young girl confronting ghosts in a haunted village after World War I.

As a result of the destruction caused by World War I and the Spanish Flu, countless spirits have become stranded in our world. Tomás, the young post-mortem photographer, ends up in a small Hungarian village during the freezing winter of 1918, after meeting a ten-year-old orphan girl, Anna.

But as he becomes more closely acquainted with the life of the place, he feels increasingly like he must escape it. The noises in the night, the village enveloped in hostility, the strange deaths, and the shadowy figures appearing in his photographs all prompt him to leave as soon as possible. Only a vision in the night and the certainty that ghosts exist, make Tomás return to the village, his conscience and desire for action awakened.

He decides that with the help of the instruments at his disposal, he will investigate the ghosts' intentions and will find a way to get free of them. The little girl accompanies Tomás's exciting exploration through all its dangers, but they find no clear answers; all the while, the spirits wreak greater havoc as each moment passes...

Post Mortem stars Viktor Klem (Hacktion, The Whiskey Robber) as Tomás, the young post-mortem photographer, Fruzsina Hais (Berlin Station) as Anna, a ten-year-old orphan girl, and Judit Schell (Just Sex and Nothing Else, Vademberek) as Marcsa.

The feature had its world premiere at Atlántida Film Fest, where it was nominated for the Audience Award. LOVERLY MOLLY

A former addict begins to have strange episodes after moving into her childhood home in this relentlessly disturbing ghost story from Blair Witch Project director Eduardo Sanchez. Richly exploring the parallels between psychosis, addiction and demonic possession, Lovely Molly is a gripping look at how the traumas of the past come back to haunt us.

THE CHANGELING

Consumed by grief, a New York composer moves to a secluded Victorian mansion. There he finds himself haunted by a paranormal entity that may unleash an even more disturbing secret. Peter Medak's acclaimed and celebrated The Changeling is quite simply, one of the great haunted house films.

But in the dead of the night, a stranger knocks on the front door. And with the first swing of his knife, the girls' idyllic weekend turns into an endless night of horror... This vicious, divisive neo-slasher introduced audiences to Alexandre Aja and helped usher in a highly praised new wave of French terror that brought us the likes of Inside and Martyrs in the mid-2000s.

FRONTIER(S)

Discovered and restored some 46 years after its completion this haunting tour-de-force from the maestro who brought us seminal greats Night Of The Living Dead, Dawn Of The Dead and Day Of The Dead, to name a few, was finally released in cinemas in 2019 and now this Shudder Exclusive gets its UK Blu-ray, DVD and digital release this Autumn.

The film, which has been certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, makes its home entertainment bow on 17 October 2022 from Acorn Media International and comes complete with stunning artwork and a host of brand-new special features. Amid the rollercoasters and chaotic crowds, he becomes increasingly disoriented and isolated; as the pain, tragedies and humiliations of ageing in America are played out before him...

Perhaps Romero's wildest and most imaginative creation – an alarming and absurd allegory about the nightmares of growing older THE AMUSEMENT PARK provides a fascinating insight into the legendary filmmakers early artistic vision and is not to be missed.

Unsettling folk horror NIX - Released Digitally, October

There’s something strange lurking in the woods by the lake in the unsettling new folk horror sensation NIX, released in the UK 31st October.

Genre star favourites, Michael Pare (Bad Moon, Philadelphia Experiment) and Dee Wallace (Cujo, The Howling) star in this nerve-shredding supernatural thriller about an evil entity threatening a family, directed by Anthony C Ferrante, the man behind the hit horror comedy Sharknado films, here turning away from tongue in cheek to scares in the woods.

Inspired by German folk tales, NIX is an eerie and intelligent examination of the impact of trauma on generations of families - as well as an all-out terrifying horror film with a very memorable new screen monster to scare you witless.

Strikingly photographed, with elements of super-shockers Hereditary and Sinister, as well as containing a nifty nod towards the famous Patterson-Gimlin ’Bigfoot’ footage, and with veteran thesps Pare and Wallace lending a stamp of chiller credibility, NIX is sure to become a new Halloween horror favourite after it is unleashed this October.

SYNOPSIS:
A camping trip for the Coyle family ends in tragedy, when their young daughter Tessa disappears. Twenty-five years later, they are still haunted by the events of that day. Matriarch Donna (Dee Wallace) still believes Tessa is alive and continues to celebrate her birthday every year, hoping for her return.

Oldest son Jack (James Zimbardi) tries to keep the family together without breaking down himself. Meanwhile middle son Lucas (Skyler Caleb) is a recovering addict with a young daughter of his own that he’s trying to protect. Terrible things start happening to the family again, with the appearance of a mysterious entity known as the “Nix”. The Coyle’s must confront the past - and what really happened out in the woods all those years ago - or succumb to the darkness that is waiting to consume them.

NIX was acquired by Central City Media in a deal closed by Jackrabbit Media.

NIX is released Digitally 31st October

Mayhem Film Festival full line-up now confirmed

With a number of UK premieres, archive screenings and even live music, fans of cult, sci-fi and horror from around the world are in for a treat when the curtains go up at Broadway Cinema, Nottingham this October.

The festival begins on Thursday 13 October with low-budget British werewolf film WOLF MANOR, and we’re delighted to welcome Director Dominic Brunt and star Rupert Proctor to the Mayhem stage for a post-screening Q&A.

The opening night finishes with a screening of Dario Argento’s latest giallo DARK GLASSES - his first film in ten years - in which a blind sex worker is left responsible for an orphaned boy as a serial killer attempts to hunt them down.

On Friday 14 October, Mayhem delves into the archives for a rare screening of THE APPOINTMENT, the Edward Woodward-starring supernatural shocker from 1982, and then it’s time to get your coat hangers ready for the dive-bombing birds of BIRDEMIC 3 : SEA EAGLE. A UK premiere, this third and final instalment in the Birdemic franchise features an ecological message alongside those long, long, walks on the beach.

We continue into the evening with Quentin Dupiex’s cracked-sitcom, sci-fi tale INCREDIBLE BUT TRUE, as a couple look for the home of their dreams and come across a house with a surprising selling point in its basement.

We finish Friday with the critically acclaimed Mexican supernatural body horror HUESERA, in which a mother discovers that the miracle of pregnancy isn’t all that she dreamed of.

Saturday’s line-up starts with an ultra-violent, bloody clash between teddy bears and unicorns in animated fantasy UNICORN WARS, and continues with Eddie Marsan and Raffiella Chapman in sci-fi adventure VESPER, as a 13-year old fends for her injured father and fights for survival amongst a collapsed ecosystem.

The festival continues into the evening with the always popular Mayhem Short Film Showcase, with the best new horror talent from across the world on the big screen.

We then take a feline turn with BFI Film Audience Network (BFI FAN) supported, “Night of the Cat”. Supported by National Lottery and BFI Film Audience Network, “Night of the Cat” one of four special commissions by leading horror film festivals around the UK, will take over Broadway’s purr-fect Screen 1 with two rare film screenings Kaneto Shindo’s 1968 Japanese horror film KURONEKO (translated as The Black Cat) will open the night and will be accompanied by a kaleidoscopic live original score from Nottingham-based artist Yumah (aka Lucy Morrow). Then in Mayhem’s late-night cult slot, a 30th anniversary screening of Stephen King’s SLEEPWALKERS from 1992 will continue the cat theme into the night.

We're starting off the final day of the festival with FREAKS OUT, from Mayhem favourite Gabriele Mainetti. A genre-defying take on the superhero film, which pits a group of bizarre circus performers against the Nazis that have captured their mentor.

We then move on to the UK premiere of JETHICA - a smart, deadpan ghost story that twists the crazed stalker genre on its head.

Director Andy Mitten, who had great success at Mayhem 2018 with The Witch in the Window, returns with THE HARBINGER, an ambitiously scary film set during lockdown where isolation leads to very bad dreams that are starting to spread.

NO LOOKING BACK is another violent, action-packed and whiplash-fast film from the makers of huge Mayhem hit Why Don’t You Just Die!

The final film of Mayhem 2022 is the scary and stylish WATCHER starring Maika Monroe (the star of It Follows) as a young American woman who suspects the man watching her from across the building is a serial killer, decapitating local women.

If you still haven’t got your passes, then we’re pleased to announce that a limited number of full festival passes are still on sale for £85, and individual tickets will be available from Wednesday 14 September. Frankenstein ticket packages will also be available on this date for £35. The Frankenstein ticket package is exclusively available at the Broadway box office and allows you to build your own film festival with any five films for £35.
