Monday February 10: Axelle Corolyn kicks of the week with SOULMATE (2013), her gripping gothic exploration of grief and supernatural. With its subtle scares, her debut feature stands out as a refreshing take on ghost stories. Its moody cinematography and haunting score enhance the tension, delivering an emotionally resonant experience.

Wednesday February 12: THE HITCHHIKER (1953), directed by Ida Lupino, is a suspenseful and groundbreaking classic that cemented Lupino’s legacy as the first woman to direct a film noir. An ultra-tense road thriller, the film showcases Lupino’s trailblazing talent in a genre then dominated by men.

Thursday February 13: The 2019 remake of RABID, directed by the Soska Sisters, reimagines David Cronenberg's 1977 body horror classic with a modern and feminist twist. The Soska Sisters bring a contemporary edge to the story, blending their signature style of gore with sharp commentary on vanity and the ethics of medical advancements.

Friday February 14: NYX UK presents the channel premiere of DEATHCEMBER (2019), a horror anthology, offering twenty-four chilling tales of holiday horror, each helmed by a different director, including Vivienne Vaughn (A Christmas Miracle), which stars horror icon Barbara Crampton, Pollyanna McIntosh (Getting Away From It All), Annika Marx (Christmas Corpse), Ama Lea: (Five Deaths In Blood Red) and Sonia Escolano (Joy To The Girls).

Monday February 3: Kicking off Zombie Week is Lucio Fulci’s iconic ZOMBIE (1979), a visceral and atmospheric masterpiece of Italian horror, memorable for its haunting visuals, gruesome special effects, and unforgettable moments—such as the infamous eye-gouging scene.

Tuesday February 4: To celebrate George A. Romero’s birthday, there is a double-bill of the legendary director’s seminal work. At 9pm is THE CRAZIES (1973) a chilling exploration of societal collapse, government control, and the fragility of human nature, which showcases Romero's signature blend of horror, social commentary, and gripping storytelling. Then at 11pm is NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968), his groundbreaking film that started it all. Romero’s low-budget masterpiece redefined horror, introducing the modern zombie as a relentless and terrifying force.

Wednesday February 5: Amando de Ossorio’s TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD (1972) presents a chilling tale of vengeance and terror, introducing viewers to the Templar Knights, an undead sect of blind, skeletal monks.

Thursday February 6: The Templar Knights are back in RETURN OF THE EVIL DEAD (1973), the sequel to Tombs of the Blind Dead. The blend of medieval lore and modern horror makes this a gripping continuation of the Blind Dead saga.

Friday February 7: The fourth and final film in the Blind Dead series, NIGHT OF THE SEAGULLS (1975) brings the saga to a haunting conclusion. The film’s melancholic tone and striking imagery make it a fitting end to the iconic series.

Saturday February 8: NIGHTMARE CITY (1980) is an Italian-Spanish zombie horror film directed by Umberto Lenzi, starring Hugo Stiglitz, Laura Trotter, and Maria Rosaria Omaggio. The film's gripping storyline, gruesome special effects, and memorable moments of terror have made it a cult classic.

Sunday February 9:  Zombie Week concludes with THE HOUSE BY THE CEMETARY (1981), another gem from Lucio Fulci.  With its eerie atmosphere, chilling score, and gory set pieces, it is a fitting finale to a week celebrating the best of undead cinema.

Plus, from February 25, NYX UK presents Season One of DARK REWIND, a nostalgic TV series where August Kyss, a charismatic and quirky host, transports viewers back to 1984 as she dives into classic 80s horror films from the comfort of her neon-li bedroom. Each episode celebrates the iconic films, cheesy tropes, and retro culture that defined 80s horror.

The first episode is the Channel premiere of SLEEPAWAY CAMP (!983), a cult classic in the slasher genre, directed by Robert Hiltzik. The film follows Angela Baker, a shy and withdrawn teenager, who attends a summer camp with her cousin Ricky. While Angela struggles to fit in, a series of brutal murders begins to plague the camp. Hammer Film’s first ever 4K restoration, CAPTAIN KRONOS VAMPIRE HUNTER, is released at UK cinemas!

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, a new 4K restoration of Hammer Film’s swashbuckling horror classic, CAPTAIN KRONOS VAMPIRE HUNTER, will be released at UK cinemas nationwide for one night only.

From 18th January 2025, the cult film will be screened at selected cinemas in major cities across the UK including Cambridge, Liverpool, Sheffield, Belfast, Glasgow and Edinburgh (full list below).

Legendary creator Brian Clemens (TV’s The Avengers, TV’s The Professionals) writes and directs this stylish, revisionist Hammer Horror pitting a swashbuckling hero, his trusty assistant and a feisty young ingenue against a cunning and malevolent vampire.

Starring Horst Janson (Shout At The Devil, To Catch A King), John Carson (Doomsday, TV’s Poirot), Shane Briant (Hawk The Slayer, TV’s The Naked Civil Servant), Caroline Munro (The Spy Who Loved Me, The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad), John Cater (The Abominable Dr. Phibes), Lois Dane (Cash On Demand), William Hobbs (Willow, The Avengers) with Ian Hendry (TV’s The New Avengers, Get Carter) and Wanda Ventham (TV’s Sherlock, TV’s UFO), Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter makes its worldwide debut as a brand-new 4K restoration from the original negative film elements.

CAPTAIN KRONOS VAMPIRE HUNTER shifted the paradigm on cinematic horror, creating a film for which appreciation has only grown over the decades – its post-modern script, stylish direction, memorable performances and folk horror mise en scène make it both of and ahead of its time. Its influence is hard to over-estimate. Fifty years after its initial theatrical exhibition, this new restoration of Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter celebrates an absolute classic of British horror whose time has very definitely come.

Synopsis
A rash of mysterious deaths due to accelerated ageing compels Dr Marcus to summon his brother-in-arms, Captain Kronos – once a soldier but now a professional vampire hunter. As the deaths continue, however, Kronos realises that this is no ordinary vampire he’s hunting.

The Restoration
This brand-new 4K restoration was scanned from vaulted 35mm original negative elements, the resultant scans painstakingly restored to remove dirt and defects. Other issues like density or colour fluctuations were corrected and the film was then graded for High Dynamic Range to show off the full range of colour and the detail in the dark and light areas of the image. Original three-track mono audio elements were used to create a new 5.1 sound mix for theatrical presentation.

CAPTAIN KRONOS VAMPIRE HUNTER is released at UK cinemas from 18th January 2025 for one night only!

J-Horror RAMPO NOIR - Out now on Limited Edition Blu-ray

Four filmmakers from completely different backgrounds bring their radically personal takes to the stories of Japan’s celebrated master of the macabre, Edogawa Rampo (Horrors of Malformed Men, Blind Beast).

In “Mars’s Canal”, by music video director and visual artist Suguru Takeuchi, a lone man encounters the other side of his psyche beyond the reflective surface of a circular pond set in a desolate landscape.

Japanese New Wave auteur and longtime director of the Ultraman series Akio Jissoji (This Transient Life, Mandala) harnesses his distinctive stylistic sheen in his story of a mad mirror maker, “Mirror Hell”.

“Caterpillar” sees the singular vision of cult director Hisayasu Sato (The Bedroom, Naked Blood) at its most grotesque, in his portrait of a wounded war veteran who returns from the frontline as little more than a bloody torso, helpless to defend himself against the increasingly perverted caprices of an embittered wife.

Finally, a famous actor is subjected to the obsessive attentions of her limo driver in “Crawling Bugs”, the directorial debut of internationally acclaimed manga artist Atsushi Kaneko (Bambi and Her Pink Gun).

Produced by the same team behind Ichi the Killer and Uzumaki, and with a cast featuring some of Japan’s top stars, including Tadanobu Asano (Maboroshi, Silence) and Ryuhei Matsuda (Blue Spring, Gohatto), RAMPO NOIR is a stylistic tour-de-force that vividly evokes the “erotic grotesque” worlds created by Japan’s pioneering proponent of horror and mystery fiction.
