Icelandic vampire comedy THIRST - Coming to UK Streaming Platforms

Somewhere in the frozen darkness of Reykjavík, something very old and very hungry has been waiting. For a thousand years, Hjörtur has lurked in the shadows — a gay vampire of considerable sass, and very specific appetites…

Meanwhile, Hulda is having the worst week of her life. A drug addict freshly released from police custody following her brother’s suspicious death, she has nowhere to go and no one to turn to — until she meets Hjörtur. In what he almost certainly considers a friendly gesture; the ancient vampire resurrects her dead brother.

It does not go well.

Now the two unlikely companions find themselves on the run — from a fanatical cult in purple tracksuits, a rogue detective, and the steadily mounting consequences of a thousand-year-old monster who simply does not know when to stop. The blood flows freely. The body count rises cheerfully. And somewhere in the neon-lit, gore-soaked chaos, an unlikely friendship is forged.

Some friendships are worth dying for. Repeatedly.

THIRST is a campy horror comedy from Iceland with award-winning special effects and a larger than undead performance from Hjörtur Sævar Steinason as our lovelorn vampire. It’s destined to become a cult classic.

DANZA MACABRA VOLUME 5: THE SPANISH GOTHIC COLLECTION BOX SET - Coming from Severin

Severin Films today announced the forthcoming release of DANZA MACABRA VOLUME FIVE: THE SPANISH GOTHIC COLLECTION.

With their fifth installment of “an essential series of Euro-Gothic tastiness” (Mondo Digital), Severin returns to the cemeteries, catacombs and cobwebbed castles of Spanish cinema for an all-new exploration of Gothic Horror excellence with 4 uncut classics on 5 discs

In the North American Disc Premiere of 1964’s STRANGE VOYAGE, director Fernando Fernán Gómez crafts a macabre true-crime shocker featuring a poignant performance by none other than Jess Franco. The disturbing 1971 drama EXORCISM’S DAUGHTER is presented in its complete U.S. Version – now featuring the infamous orgy sequence – as well as the original Spanish Version LAS MELANCÓLICAS, both on disc for the first time ever.

THE DRACULA SAGA is 1973’s grisly reinvention of vampiric damnation from the legendary León Klimovsky, uncut in North America for the first time ever. And in 1985’s acclaimed THE TURN OF THE SCREW, controversial director Eloy de la Iglesia adapts Henry James’ classic novella with a startling psychosexual twist. Each film in this collection has been scanned from original camera negatives or archival 35mm prints, with 10+ combined hours of new audio commentaries, video essays, interview featurettes and more.

DANZA MACABRA VOLUME FIVE is now available for pre-order at The Severin Webstore.

In addition, all four previous volumes of DANZA MACABRA will be available for 50% off SRLP through June 8th.

Disc 1: STRANGE VOYAGE (1964)

In 1964, renowned novelist, playwright and actor Fernando Fernán Gómez directed his most controversial film, “a truly remarkable” (Cinemagavia) gothic horror black comedy based on a shocking true crime, condemned by government censors upon its release and featuring a surprisingly poignant performance by none other than Jess Franco: In an old dark house on the outskirts of a rural village, a matriarch cruelly bullies her two childlike adult siblings.

But when dread leads to murder, will repression and deceit bring about the most depraved acts of all? Carlos Larrañaga (THE PRIDE AND THE PASSION), Tota Alba (STRANGE LOVE OF THE VAMPIRES), Lina Canalejas (BLOOD HUNT) and María Luisa Ponte (EUGENIE) co-star in this “masterpiece of artistic subversion” (The Postmodern Pelican), now scanned in 2K from the original camera negative with over 2 hours of new Special Features.

Francisco Rabal (SORCERER, DAGON), Espartaco Santoni (THE FEAST OF SATAN) and Helga Liné (THE VAMPIRES NIGHT ORGY) co-star in this “disturbing” (Mondo Digital) gothic drama written and directed by Rafael Moreno Alba (DREAM KISS), presented in its original Spanish Version LAS MELANCÓLICAS scanned in 4K from the original camera negative plus the complete U.S. Version (also known as THE HOUSE OF INSANE WOMEN) with additional footage – including the infamous inmate orgy sequence – now sourced from an archival 35mm print, with over 2 hours of new Special Features.

From famed director León Klimovsky (THE NIGHT OF THE WALKING DEAD, THE PEOPLE WHO OWN THE DARK) comes the daring gothic shocker hailed as “one of the most original vampire films in Spanish horror cinema” (Cine Maldito): When Dracula’s pregnant granddaughter (Tina Sáinz) and her upstanding husband (Tony Isbert of TRAGIC CEREMONY) arrive at the Count’s castle, it will birth a nightmare of profane seduction, ancestral damnation and inconceivable vampiric carnage.

Helga Liné (THE LORELEY’S GRASP), María Kosty (NIGHT OF THE SEAGULLS) and Narciso Ibáñez Menta (THE BEAST MUST DIE) co-star in this “bizarre Spanish gem” (Bloody Pit of Horror) co-written by Emilio Martínez Lázaro (CAKE OF BLOOD) and Juan Tébar (THE LEGEND OF BLOOD CASTLE), now scanned in 2K from the original camera negative with over 2 hours of new Special Features.

But when he begins to believe that the estate is haunted by the ghost of the previous cruel caretaker, it will unlock an ordeal of lost innocence, forbidden desire and immoral terror. Darkly comic STEPHANE and Cult slasher KILLER PARTY - Coming to Disc from Arrow

Underrated horror gems STEPHANE and KILLER PARTY are being released to Disc this August from Arror Video...

STEPHANE

Skilfully blending elements of Mark Duplass’ Creep with 1992’s Man Bites Dog, alongside mis matched buddy movies such as The Cable GuySTEPHANE is a darkly comic thriller set in the world of amateur film-making that is as bleakly funny as it is disturbingly twisted.

When Tim (Bastien Garcia), a committed and aspiring filmmaker, encounters the eccentric Stéphane (Lucas Pastor), it seems like a match made in heaven. Stéphane claims to be an experienced SFX supervisor and stuntman who quickly impresses Tim with his home-made pyrotechnics.

The two men decide to embark on a journey to Stéphane’s private island to film an ambitious World War II epic, along with Stéphane’s acquaintance, a selective mute refugee actress named Bianca (Eva Gregorieff). But as Tim and Stéphane’s movie-making odyssey develops, it soon becomes apparent that neither of them may be what they claim, and tensions quickly escalate.

Part found-footage, part sinister thriller and part self-reflexive black comedy, Stéphane is punk filmmaking at its finest, right up until the final, chilling post-credits scene.

BloodStream Releases Found-Footage Slasher Series GAME

As announced by Fangoria, BloodStream acquired exclusive distribution rights to GAME001, GAME002, GAME003, GAME004, and GAME005, a graphic horror film series directed by the anonymous filmmaker known as Playgame Tipplayer, whose concealed identity mirrors the brutality and anonymity embedded in the series itself.

All five films will debut on June 1, 2026, exclusively on BloodStream as a subscription-only release, before expanding to additional platforms on August 1, 2026.

"BloodStream is committed to releasing violent, uncompromising, forward-thinking new films that aren’t available anywhere else," says BloodStream Programmer Heidi Honeycutt. "We want to push boundaries, and the GAME series is another step in that direction. I hope horror fans appreciate access to something this gruesome and unapologetically exploitative."

Anyone can wear the mask. I just never take mine off. You think you’re watching me, but I’m watching you. Nothing is real. And even if you think it is, how would you ever know? It’s all content. At least we know we’re playing the game.

Playgame Tipplayer is the anonymous filmmaker credited solely with the GAME franchise, though no verified record of their existence has ever been found. Online speculation describes them as everything from a failed content creator to a collective identity used by multiple people hiding behind a single name. Their work obsessively explores performance, surveillance, clout, identity, and the psychological collapse of living as permanent content for invisible audiences. Whether Tipplayer is an artist, a troll, a myth, or simply another player inside the GAME itself remains unresolved.

The GAME series drops viewers into a fractured slasher scenario built around two female hikers who encounter a masked killer in a remote forest. The perspective shifts across victims, perpetrators, and recorded viewpoints, folding acts of filming, sharing, clout building, and watching directly into the violence itself, and the reason any of the films seem to exist.

Blending widescreen footage with vertical phone video and distorted lens imagery, the series creates a disorienting visual field where everyone is a “subject”. The result is a relentless loop of performance and consumption.

The GAME movies contain intense violence, strong language, and nudity, and are intended for adult audiences.

The Horror Collective/Bloodstream Acquires LAST CHANCE MOTEL - Ahead of Cannes Market Gala

The Horror Collective has acquired worldwide rights to the upcoming horror-thriller LAST CHANCE MOTEL. Parent company Studio Dome will introduce the film to international buyers at the Marché du Film during the 2026 Cannes Film Festival where the film will be screening this year’s Fantastic Galas.

Co-written and co-directed by horror icons Danielle Harris and Scout Taylor-Compton, who also star, LAST CHANCE MOTEL follows a newlywed couple whose dream wedding spirals into a bloody nightmare when they uncover that their secluded venue, a desolate motel deep in the Nevada desert, is run by a relentless bloodthirsty family with dark secrets. A pulse-pounding psychological thriller with horror elements, the film pays homage to classic slashers while injecting a modern psychological twist, delivering a contained, high-concept genre piece built for both theatrical horror programming and streaming.

LAST CHANCE MOTEL unites three generations of horror royalty in one of the most stacked final-girl ensembles assembled in recent memory. Harris, beloved by genre fans for her work across the Halloween franchise (Halloween 4, 5, and Rob Zombie's Halloween duology) as well as Hatchet and Stake Land, and Taylor-Compton, who carried the torch as Laurie Strode in Rob Zombie's Halloween and Halloween II, lead the ensemble alongside the legendary Heather Langenkamp, the original Nancy Thompson from Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street and the star of Wes Craven's New Nightmare

They are joined by Monica Keena (Freddy vs. Jason, Dawson's Creek), Robert Allen Mukes, the towering Rufus Firefly from Rob Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses, and Shane West (Salem, A Walk to Remember, Nikita), who brings crossover star power to the project. Rising indie horror talent Sierra McCormick (The Vast of Night, We Need to Do Something), and Zachary Roozen (Deadly Debutantes), round out the cast.

Harris and Taylor-Compton co-hosted Talk Scary to Me, the popular horror podcast on the Bloody Disgusting network, giving the film a direct line to one of the most engaged genre fanbases online. The duo regularly sells out horror conventions and fan events across North America and Europe, where their Halloween legacy makes them perennial top-draw guests.

Desert-set slashers and contained-location horror remain among the most reliable performers in the genre, both theatrically and on streaming, with recent comps including Barbarian, X, and The Strangers: Chapter 1 demonstrating sustained audience appetite for the format.
LAST CHANCE MOTEL is positioned to capitalize on the same demand drivers: a recognizable cast, a single high-impact location, an iconic American horror landscape, and a clean, marketable hook.

Developed by Talk Scary Productions and Hillin Entertainment, the film was produced by Daemon Hillin alongside Harris and Taylor-Compton, with Amy Covell and Tom O'Connell serving as co-producers, Vitoria Silvestre as Associate Producer, and Jeremy Spencer, Edward D. A. Sommer, Michelle L. Sommer, Jen Kaput, and Jay Kaput as executive producers. Brandon Slagle co-wrote the screenplay with Harris and Taylor-Compton. Tasos Eliopoulos composed the score, with Andy Patch serving as cinematographer and Austin Nordell as editor.

"Scream queens stepping behind the camera together, and bringing Heather Langenkamp with them, is the kind of moment that matters in this genre," said Heidi Honeycutt, Director of Programming at BloodStream and author of I Spit On Your Celluloid: The History of Women Directing Horror Movies. "Danielle and Scout know horror at a level few directors do, and Last Chance Motel is the kind of film our audience shows up for. It's exactly what BloodStream was built to champion"

Q & A with Director Joanne Mitchell - Talking about her new film BROKEN BIRD

Ahead of the UK Digital release of her feature debut BROKEN BIRD on May 7, director Joanne Mitchell looks back at the film’s journey from shooting in Serbia, screening at FrightFest and finally reaching US theatre audiences.

Q) The film has not played in any US festivals, so the film’s US theatrical run from April 24 will be the first time stateside audiences get to see it. What do you imagine the reception will be?

Well, you never really know how a film will be received until it’s in front of an audience, I felt the same when it premiered here in the UK too, where it was, thankfully ,well received. Although it’s a very British movie, sitting within the horror genre, I feel confident about the strength of the story and its emotional pull. It has a gothic, macabre tone with moments of dark humour, which I think US audiences will find distinctive rather than alienating. Ultimately, I would like audiences to be entertained, unsettled and emotionally affected in equal measure.

Q) Broken Bird delves into the subject of necromancy. How were you first drawn to the subject?

I wasn’t drawn to necromancy as a subject in itself. What interested me was the experience of losing someone very close and the difficult ways people struggle - or fail - to let go. Necromancy became a way of externalising that emotional state. When we’re grieving, especially when the loss is unresolved, there’s often a desire to keep someone present, to refuse the finality of it. It’s hard and the struggle can last for years or a lifetime. In Broken Bird, that impulse is expressed through something darker and more literal.

Q) Given the taboo nature of the subject, were there any times when you felt you had to be more restrained, less graphic?

The film sits within the horror genre, and I think because of that one can pretty much go anywhere. However, it was never my intention for it to be shocking for the sake of it. Everything that was written, especially with the more unrestrained and graphic elements were all based in truth, that truth being from Sybil’s point of view, however warped. Everything came from her reality and imagination. I think Rebecca plays the part with such honesty and nuance, the audience can’t help but feel engaged and be taken on her dark journey.

Q) Sybil, your damaged protagonist, is played brilliantly by Rebecca Calder. Take us through the casting process.

We also had a wonderful casting director, Des Hamilton. He brought an array of great actresses to my attention, and we initially started with self-tapes. In an ideal world I’d have liked to have met all the actors in the flesh, but there wasn’t time for me to fly back to London within that pre-production period. So, I watched many self tapes and interviewed a handful over zoom. When I watched Rebecca’s tape I had a visceral feeling. I physically felt myself leaning into the screen. She had this amazing, enigmatic quality that stuck with me, I kept watching her tape over and over. And the fact that she used a Northeast accent won it for me.

Q) The film has a very British sensibility. So how challenging was it shooting the entire film in Serbia?

To be honest, before I went out there I wasn’t sure what I was walking into.  I thought Serbia would be a million miles away from the Northern England landscape where I had envisaged it visually. However, as I started the recce my mind and eyes were pleasantly opened. For example, I realised I was never going to find an authentic Yorkshire pub in Belgrade, so I re-wrote the poetry night scenes into a kind of pretentious poetry bar/open mic location. Which I felt actually worked better. Once I started opening my mindset and being less fixated  I could adapt my way of thinking.

Q) What cinematic influences did you draw on?

I think a lot of the influences are probably subconscious, but I’m drawn to filmmakers who balance emotional truth with heightened atmosphere. I admire filmmakers like Guillermo del Toro who find beauty and lyricism within darkness and also Hitchcock’s gothic psychological sensibility.  More contemporary films like Saint Maud also resonate -  they all place character at the centre while allowing something unsettling to grow around them. That balance felt  important to me when co-writing and directing Broken Bird.

Q) Although there is a gripping tension throughout the film, Broken Bird exudes pitch-perfect black humour. Some might say a ‘grave humour’. What was the thought process in establishing the film's tone

The writing is key, particularly for the characters and their individual arcs. A lot of the tonal balance comes from seeing the world through Sybil’s eyes. Her perspective isn’t entirely ’normal’ and that gave me permission to play with tone in a way that felt truthful rather than flippant. Her fantasies allowed for those moments of playful imagination and the darker ‘grave humour’. I was also interested in playing with the light and dark themes, the warmth and the cold, in tone and colour. The funeral parlour, for example, has a strange warmth to it, contrasting to the clinical coldness of the mortuary.  I think this also plays out with the contrasting characters particularly between Sybil and Mr Thomas, which both Rebecca Calder and James Fleet played so thoughtfully and beautifully throughout.

Q) With Broken Bird being your directorial feature debut how do you look back on the experience and the journey you and the film have been on?

It has been quite a journey. I have learnt so much. I am very proud of the film, but I certainly could not have done it without the amazing cast, crew and production team. It was a huge task, but the cast and crew were so efficient and passionate that it made it all a joyful experience. I loved the post production side too, working alongside my editor, colourist, composer, VFX and sound team, and of course my producer who was there to support throughout, Zoe Stewart. I also must say it was a huge highlight for everyone, for the movie to open London’s Frightfest Film Festival  screening to an audience of around 800 people. I shall treasure that experience. I’m also really excited for US audiences to finally experience the movie when it opens theatrically on April 24th, 2026.

BROKEN BIRD is now out in US cinemas and will be available to rent or buy in the UK via Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Google TV from May 7, 2026

Cult classic horror franchise THE GINGER SNAPS TRILOGY - Standard Edition Blu-ray

GINGER SNAPS is a landmark in cult horror and now the seminal movie is set for a highly anticipated Blu-ray release from Second Sight Films. Helmed by John Fawcett (Orphan Black, Saving Hope), the cult classic offers a fresh take on the werewolf and coming-of-age genre, with heaps of gore and a lot of heart.

All three films are now set for release as THE GINGER SNAPS TRILOGY - Standard Edition Blu-ray, on 25 May 2026 from Second Sight Films.

The first feature is set in the suburban Canadian town of Bailey Downs, where a series of dog killings piques the interest of a pair of outcast teens; sisters Brigitte (Emily Perkins – Supernatural) and Ginger (Katharine Isabelle – Freddy v Jason) Fitzgerald. Then on the night of Ginger's first period, she is savagely attacked by a wild creature but even though her injuries miraculously heal, she’s left with a newfound desire to devour…

Brigitte must find a way to save her sister from her werewolf ways and with only 28 days to do so, can she stop the creature her sister has become in its tracks, or will they both succumb to the animalistic instincts?

GINGER SNAPS 2: UNLEASHED, sees Brigitte wrestling with her own transformation, as she is forcefully put into rehab and must identify friend from foe, all the while battling a male werewolf who’s stalking her. Tatiana Maslany (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Orphan Black) and Eric Johnson (Smallville, Fifty Shades Darker) also star.

GINGER SNAPS BACK: THE BEGINNING, from director Grant Harvey, depicts the ancestors of Brigitte and Ginger Fitzgerald in 19th century Canada. They must battle villagers and werewolves alike as accusations and attacks come at them from all sides. Can they make it out alive or will they yield to a lycanthropic life?
