"Black Water Vampire" - bites UK DVD

Who or what is responsible for a series of brutal killings, where the victims’ bodies have been found drained of blood in Black Water Creek? A young journalist and her team investigate in "Black Water Vampire" , which is coming to UK DVD from Image Entertainment.

Raymond Banks, has been locked up and certified criminally insane for the murders of four women whose bodies were brutalised and dumped in the woods, but Andrea Adams thinks the police have got it wrong and she’s taking her film crew to find out the truth.

What they find there can only be told by the footage left behind. There are darker forces at work than anyone outside of Black Water can know…or will ever live to tell. Blood wrenching, soul-shattering terror waits for those who dare enter these woods in search of the Black Water Vampire.

"Black Water Vampire" is a first for found footage as vampires invade the genre in this slick, atmospheric horror that builds to a truly chilling climax. It makes its UK DVD debut on 24 March 2014 from Image Entertainment.

New Poster and Trailer released for "Gravedigger".

Producer Keith Collins got in touch this week to tell us about his new film "Gravedigger", which is being shot in New Jersey, as they have just revealed the poster artwork (pictured left) for the film and have released a new trailer to YouTube (see link below).

“Gravedigger” tells the story of Steve Borden (Keith Collins- "The Meat Puppet"), a brilliant, young criminal defense attorney, who makes his living defending the indefensible. When a case gone horribly wrong haunts him, Borden’s conscience begins to send him into a guilt-ridden spiral. District Attorney Mike Ruble (Brandon Ruckdashel) suspects that the recent rash of dead bodies turning up in shallow graves are down to town's Police Cheif George Orkin (Jim McKeown), who is tied to crime boss Charles Muzzatti (John Stoerback - "The Next Vigilante").

As paranoia rises and Borden, Orkin, Ruble & Muzzatti try to pin the murders on each other, could another, more sinister force be hunting them? Codes, morals and misguided views of justice collide when the law, the mob and the Gravedigger face off in a bloody battle that will darken the survivor’s souls forever. But will burying the guilty, bury the Gravedigger’s own guilt?

Guns N Roses guitarist Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal and former NY Yankees Baseball Player, Billy Sample also star. View the trailer of YouTube.

"Cold Comes the Night" on UK DVD

Alice Eve ("Star Trek Into Darkness") and Golden Globe winner Bryan Cranston (TV’s "Breaking Bad") star in the edge-of-your-seat, cat-and-mouse thriller COLD COMES THE NIGHT, available on UK DVD and Digital this February.

Chloe (Alice Eve) and daughter Sophia (Ursula Parker) live in a rundown motel on a lonely highway pit stop. As the proprietor of the motel, Chloe is in financial trouble and has let Billy (Logan Marshall-Green - "Prometheus"), a corrupt cop, take advantage of her situation. One night, Topo (Bryan Cranston), a nearly blind career criminal, and his driver stop at the motel while en route to deliver cash to an unknown boss. After an accident, which kills his driver and gets his car impounded, he takes Chloe and Sophia hostage, forcing them to go after Billy, who has stolen Topo’s money from the car.

Hoping to escape to a better life, Chloe tries to strike a deal with Topo but soon finds herself in over her head, and a series of double crosses leaves a cloud of mayhem and murder.

COLD COMES THE NIGHT is directed by Tze Chun from a screenplay by Tze Chun, Osgood Perkins & Nick Simon.  The film is released to UK DVD and on Digital download, February 17th from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Bonus features on the DVD include Deleted Scenes.

Forest Whittaker's "Repentance" in selected cinemas February.

From Lionsgate and Codeblack Films. Years after a drunken car crash that almost took his life, Tommy Carter (Anthony Mackie) has reinvented himself as a therapist/spiritual advisor who advocates a synthesis of world religions and positivity. He’s parlayed this vocation into a successful book release that one day draws the attention of Angel Sanchez (Forest Whitaker), a profoundly troubled man fixated on the “untimely” death of his mother.

When Carter takes on Sanchez as a personal client in an effort to raise funds for his indebted brother Ben (Mike Epps), things quickly take a turn for the worse. Angel needs much more than a simple life coach.

What may be simple to grasp for some is the idea that single actions in the past comprise tidal waves of reactions in the present. Director Philippe Caland's REPENTANCE examines these issues against a backdrop of kidnapping and murder.

View the trailer on YouTube.

REPENTANCE will open on February 28, 2014, in limited release.

Italian Composer Riz Ortalani dies, aged 87.

Was very sad to hear that Italian movie soundtrack composer Riz Ortalani, of "Cannibal Holocaust" and more recently "Django Unchained" fame passed away yesterday (23/01/14).

The following obituary was posted over at Dangerous Minds.

Italian film composer Riziero “Riz” Ortolani died in Rome at the age of 87. Sadly, Ortolani—who worked with directors like Vittorio De Sica, Dino Risi, Damiano Damiani, Lucio Fulchi, Gualtiero Jacopetti and Pupi Avati—would have celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary of marriage to his wife Katyna in just a few days time.

Ortolani’s music first gained worldwide exposure with his score for the infamous Mondo Cane. The film’s title theme “More” won him a Grammy and an Oscar nomination. It’s been covered by Frank Sinatra and Count Basie, Judy Garland, Andy WIlliams, Herb Alpert and many others.

In a career that spanned decades, Ortolani wrote the music for around three hundred bloody giallo films, “Mondo” documentaries, zombie flicks, exploitation films and spaghetti westerns. In recent years his work has been heard in the films of Quentin Tarantino and in Drive.

RIP Riz, cult movie fans the world over will miss you.

Frightfest announces Glasgow Film Festival Line-Up.

From Thursday Feb 27 to Sunday March 2, the UK’s favourite horror fantasy festival returns to its second home at the Glasgow Film Festival for the 9th year with an impressive slate of the hottest new horror films.

Some of FrightFest’s favourite filmmakers take centre-stage this year, including Ti West, who has teamed up with producer Eli Roth for the cult of the damned shocker THE SACRAMENT. As well as screening the film, FrightFest’s Alan Jones will be talking to Ti at a special presentation on Thursday February 27 at the GFT Screen 2.

FrightFest also welcomes director Jake West and producer Marc Morris, who will be  introducing the world premiere of VIDEO NASTIES: DRACONIAN DAYS, their sequel to the critically acclaimed VIDEO NASTIES: MORAL PANIC, CENSORSHIP & VIDEOTAPE documentary. As will Jordan Barker, director of the terrific sucker punch home invasion chiller TORMENT, starring Katharine Isabelle, which will receive its European premiere,

Also attending is Indiana writer/director Zack Parker, with the UK premiere of his extraordinary film PROXY, a daring and highly original chiller. Parker has slowly been building a following with INEXCHANGE, QUENCH and SCALENE and will be flying in from the USA to talk about his burgeoning career.

Other UK premieres on show are the bigger and wickeder WOLF CREEK 2 and KILLERS, a dark, twisted tale from the Mo Brothers duo of Kimo Stamboel and Timo Tjahjanto.  Then there are two highly impressive feature debuts - Cliff Prowse and Derek Lee’s AFFLICTED, a clever spin on the found-footage trend and Spanish director Jorge Dorado’s probing, twisty MINDSCAPE starring Mark Strong.

Arrow to release Brian DePalma's "Phantom of Paradise"

Arrow Video is thrilled to announce the release of Brian De Palma’s seminal horror fantasy Phantom of the Paradise coming to Blu-ray for the first time in the UK on 24th February.

One of 2014’s most hotly anticipated titles from the Arrow Video label, Brian De Palma’s Phantom of the Paradise came hot on the heels of his early horror film Sisters. An inspired rock ’n’ roll fusion of Faust, The Phantom of the Opera and The Picture of Dorian Gray boasts an Oscar-nominated score by Paul Williams, who also stars as an evil record producer who not only steals the work of composer/performer Winslow Leach (William Finley) but gets him locked up in Sing Sing - and that’s not the worst that happens to him along the way.

Few revenge scenarios have ever been so amply justified, but the film is also constantly aware of the satirical possibilities offered by the 1970s music industry, exemplified by Gerrit Graham’s hilariously camp glam-rock star.  Jessica Harper (Suspiria) appears in her first major role as the naïve but ambitious singer, on whom Winslow secretly dotes.

Prodigiously inventive both musically and visually, this is one of De Palma’s most entertaining romps, not least because it was so clearly a labour of love.

This feature-packed disc will be released as both a Limited Edition SteelBook and deluxe Blu-ray featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by The Red Dress. This exciting Blu-ray release will also include an exclusive collector’s booklet featuring new writing on the film by festival programmer Michael Blyth and an exploration of the film’s troubled marketing history by Ari Kahan, curator of SwanArchives.org, illustrated with original stills and promotional material.

• High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) presentation of the feature, available in the UK for the first time!
• Original uncompressed Stereo PCM / 4.0 DTS-HD Master Audio options
• Isolated Music and Effects soundtrack
• Optional English SDH subtitles for the deaf and hearing impaired
• Paradise Regained – A 50 minute documentary on the making of the film featuring director Brian De Palma, producer Ed Pressman, the late star William Finley, star and composer Paul Williams, co-stars Jessica Harper and Gerrit Graham and more!
• Guillermo Del Toro interviews Paul Williams (72 mins, 2014)
• The Swan Song Fiasco: A new video piece exploring the changes made to the film in post-production
• Archive interview with costume designer Rosanna Norton
• William Finley on the Phantom doll!
• Paradise Lost and Found: Alternate takes and bloopers from the cutting room floor
• Original Trailers
• Radio Spots
• Gallery of rare stills including behind-the-scenes images by photographer Randy Black
• Collector’s booklet featuring new writing on the film by festival programmer Michael Blyth and an exploration of the film’s troubled marketing history by Ari Kahan, curator of SwanArchives.org, illustrated with original stills and promotional material

Directed by Roy Ward Baker, this popular sequel to Taste the Blood of Dracula stars Christopher Lee as Count Dracula, who spreads his evil from his mountaintop castle. They make their way towards the sinister castle and its undead host. Also stars Dennis Waterman.

Sat 8 Feb @ 21.00 – FRANKENSTEIN CREATED WOMAN (1967)
Directed by Terence Fisher, this popular feature stars Peter Cushing as Baron Frankenstein, who discovers a way of trapping the soul of a dead person. Frankenstein believes he can transfer the soul into a recently deceased female (Susan Denberg) to restore her to life. The aged Baron Victor Frankenstein (Peter Cushing) is housed at an insane asylum where he has been made a surgeon, where, under the alias of Dr. Carl Victor, uses his position to continue his experiments in the creation of man. House of Evil - crowdfunding appeal

Italian director Massimiliano Cerchi is working on his new film "House of Evil", which will be shot on 3D using 4K professional cameras.

Intended as a throw back to 80s horror films like Poltergeist and Hellraiser, the film will star Robert Lasardo ("Death Race"), US TV actor Jeff Kim, German action movie star Sebastian Van Vrey and Playboy model Tawny Amber Young ("Nude Nuns with Big Guns") .

Filming is to begin shortly, but in order to secure the remining finances needed to cover the films budget, he's appealing for your help.

"The House of Evil" is currently crowdfunding on Indiegogo with an aim to reach $10,000. In the first day of the campaign they have raised a total of $635 so in the first 24 hours they are slowly approaching the 10% funded marker which is very impressive.

Arrow to release limited edition "Hellgate" DVD/BD

Arrow Video is excited to announce the UK Dual Format Blu-ray + DVD of Hellgate. This strictly limited edition (1000 copies) will be available to own in the UK on 27th January and features packaging that will showcase the original poster artwork as well as a reversible sleeve with newly commissioned artwork by Graham Humphreys.

Legends abound of ‘The Hellgate Hitchhiker’. So the story goes, a beautiful young woman was once brutally defiled and murdered by a biker gang. Now, returned from the dead, she wanders the roadside luring unsuspecting motorists to their doom…

Refusing to heed the warnings of locals, a group of college friends set out on a cross-country road trip looking for fun and frolics. But they get much more than they bargained for when they wind up in the abandoned mining town of Hellgate and hemmed in by hordes of the undead!

Providing gore and gags in equal measure, Hellgate recalls the good old days of early 90s fright flicks and challenges other gleefully twisted flicks such as Re-animator and Return of the Living Dead for sheer grisly delirium!

Special Features
• Limited edition Blu-ray [1000 Copies]
• High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) and Standard Definition DVD presentation of the main feature
• Road to Perdition, B-Movie Style: An extensive interview with Hellgate director William A. Levey
