"THE LAKE ON CLINTON ROAD" coming to US DVD and VOD

"I Know What You Did Last Summer" collides with "Evil Dead" in director Deshon Hardy‘s "THE LAKE ON CLINTON ROAD", premiering on US VOD and DVD July 17.

Based on true events, when 6 friends from Massachusetts finish up classes for the semester, they decide to take a road trip to the Jersey Shore. A birthday celebration at a shore house will be the highlight of their summer, or so they thought. When they get to the house, they realize it’s not the beach house they were expecting. It’s actually in the middle of the woods off a long spooky road, Clinton Road.

Clinton Road has been haunted for the past 50 years, this is what Alex, Jillian, Amber, Jamie, Stacy and Mark will soon find out. The sadness of not having a beach near soon disappears as they all rush outside to see the lake . They prepare to have drunken festivities at the lake but thats when the horror begins. One by one they all disappear. Who will be the last? Who will be the first? Will anyone survive?

Starring Alan Bendich (TVs Cagney & Lacey), India Autry (TVs My New Roommate), Aram Bauman (The Lost Children), Tina Krause (Zombie Holocaust), Leah Jones (Urban Legends), Stephanie Marrone, and Richard Ryker.

"Island of Death" - UK DVD/BD review

“Island of Death”, a film with something guaranteed to offend everybody, is out now on a special BD/DVD combo pack from Arrow films, who were kind enough to send a copy over for me to take a look at.

Religious fanatics Celia and Christopher arrive at the Greek island of Mykonos and proceed to go around raping and murdering all the sexual deviants they find on the island (not that they’re anyone to talk).

Having phoned Christopher’s mother from a payphone, whilst they’re busy having sex in it, Christopher then goes on to have his wicked way with a goat. Before they decide to kill a stereotypical Frenchman (complete with beret and bottle of red wine), after Celia disliked the way he looked at her, by crucifying him to the floor of an old church and pouring whitewash down his throat.

Other highlights of their rampage include Christopher seducing some middle aged woman, then urinating on her (which she seems to enjoy) before killing her and decapitating the body with a bulldozer (yes seriously). Then invading a gay couple’s house and chasing the occupants around the town with a sword.

With the bodies piling up, the police begin to take notice and they are forced to flee into the countryside. But has Christopher met his match in the form of a flatulent sheep farmer?

Featuring, rape, incest, sodomy, beastiality, urolagnia, homophobia, racism and even a farting farmer, its small wonder this infamous 1976 title found its way onto the governments Video Nasties list when released onto video in the early 80s and was heavily censored upon its initial DVD release back in 2002.

Fortunately, in these slightly more ‘enlightened’ times, the film is now available to own fully uncut here in the UK. Arrow had previously released the film to DVD, but is now available to view in all its hi-def glory in a new BD and DVD combo pack.

Extras on the discs include….

Exploring Island of Death (38mins) – Film historian Stephen Thrower on the making of a cult classic

Return to Island of Death (17mins) – Niko Mastorakis gives a film location tour of the original Mykonos locations

Archive interview with Mastorakis (23mins) – originally filmed for the US DVD release back in 2001, the director discusses the making of this andhis earlier films.

Alternative opening titles – alternate title sequences for the film under the titles “Island of Peversion” and “Devils of Mykonos”.

Island Sounds – five original tracks from the Island of Death soundtrack

Original Theatrical Trailer – a trailer for the film, under one of its alternate titles “Cruel Destination”.

These can be found on both the BD and DVD. However the following 2 features are on the BD ONLY…

The Films of Nico Mastorakis (2hrs:40m) – A four-part documentary, narrated by Masterakis himself, charting the his filmmaking career. Looking at the making of all his films, including my favourite “Nightmare at Noon”, featuring clips and behind the scenes footage from his movies, including on set interviews wirth the cast and crew.

Nico Mastorakis Trailer Reel (38mins) –  12 trailers of the directors other movies.

The case also contains a reversible sleeve featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Graham Humphreys and a fully-illustrated collector’s booklet featuring new writing by academic and film historian Johnny Walker.

It is worth noting that this release unfortunately does NOT include the directors commentary track that was on Arrow’s previous DVD release, which had also featured on the old US disc.

The film is presented in its original 4:3 filmed aspect ratio and features its original UK “Island of Death” title sequence, complete with clicking camera shutter sounds. Unlike previous releases, which had newly generated titles playing over one of the songs from the soundtrack.

This is one of those films that tries to be shocking, but ultimately comes across as hilariously bad. Indeed, I’ve always found it to be hysterically funny and I’m sure cult movie fans will agree. This latest BD/DVD release from Arrow is arguably worth purchasing just for the 4-part documentary about Mastorakis films alone. The only minor downside being lack of audio commentary track. But aside from that, if you’re looking at picking this up, then this version is very much worthwhile.

"Woman Without a Face" kickstarter campaign

Inspired by films like Repulsion, Rosemary's Baby, and The Innocents. "The Woman Without a Face" deals with questions about what it is to be a woman, as the films lead character, Allison, slowly loses her grip on what is happening to her, as she struggles with the possibility that someone else is trying to take over her life.

The film blends modern elements of the horror genre with an observational style seen from directors like Lucrecia Martel and Roman Polanski, all culminating in a unique and unsettling experience.

"The Woman Without a Face" is primarily funded by a grant from Studio 22, but that money only covers a portion of production costs. In order to ensure they have enough money for insurance, rentals, and post-production, they need your support and have launched a Kickstarter campaign.

For more information on how to get involved and full list of benefits with the various levels of investment, visit the Kickstarter Campaign Page

"Island of Death" on UK BD/DVD May 25th.

Arrow Video is thrilled to announce the world premiere Blu-ray release of cult director Nico Mastorakis’ shocking video nasty, "Island of Death".

Upon its initial release some 40 years ago, this catalogue of atrocities featured scenes too shocking for the British public and was subsequently banned. However, this newly restored director-approved edition will debut fully-uncut on Blu-ray in all its sleazy and lurid glory (or should that say gory!) from 25th May 2015.

Welcome to Mykonos, the holiday destination of choice for sun, sea and slaughter! From cult director Nico Mastorakis, Island of Death is a travelogue of atrocities with scenes so strong that the British Government was once compelled to ban it as a “video nasty”.

Arriving on the idyllic Greek island, Christopher and Celia appear to be every inch the perfect, handsome young couple. Little do the welcoming locals realise that they are in fact a pair of murderous degenerates, determined to spread their own particular brand of perversion across the island. DIY crucifixions, opportunistic bestiality, sexual peeing and murder by all conceivable forms ensue – including death by makeshift blowtorch, samurai sword, dump truck and more!

Shocking, brutal and totally politically incorrect in its outlook, Island of Death is a gruelling cinematic experience devised by director Mastorakis to out-do the excesses of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, which he was hugely inspired by. Now fully uncut and newly-restored from the original negative, fans can enjoy Island of Death in all its sleazy, lurid glory.
·Brand new 2K restoration of the film from the original camera negative, approved by writer-director-producer Nico Mastorakis
·High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) and Standard Definition DVD presentations
·Original Mono audio (uncompressed PCM on the Blu-ray)
·Optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing
·Exploring Island of Death – film historian Stephen Thrower on the making of a cult classic
·Return to Island of Death – Mastorakis returns to the original Mykonos locations
·Archive interview with Mastorakis
·Alternative opening titles
·Island Sounds – five original tracks from the Island of Death soundtrack
·Original Theatrical Trailer
·The Films of Nico Mastorakis – four-part documentary charting the director’s filmmaking career [Blu-ray only]

Hammers "Hound of the Baskervilles" coming to UK BD

Hammer horror's version of "Hound of the Baskervilles" is coming to UK BD from Arrow films this June.

Sherlock Holmes is the most filmed character of all time – but it is arguably this 1959 re-telling of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic tale The Hound of the Baskervilles, from legendary horror studio Hammer and starring genre stalwarts Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, which stands as the super sleuth’s finest cinematic hour.

Rising up out of the swirling mists of Dartmoor, Baskerville Hall stands tall and gloomy. Its occupant, Charles Baskerville, has been found dead in mysterious circumstances. Could Sir Charles have been the victim of the so-called “Baskerville Curse”, which tells of a deadly beast that stalks the surrounding countryside? Unperturbed by the legend, next-in-line Sir Henry Baskerville (a rare leading man performance from Lee) sets out to Dartmoor to assume inheritance of the family estate, under the auspices of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes and right-hand man Dr. Watson (Andre Morell).

Imbued with an atmosphere as thick as fog, The Hound of the Baskervilles is a superlative gothic yarn which benefits from game performances from Cushing, Lee and Morell, as well as the expert direction of Terence Fisher, known for helming many of Hammer’s most celebrated efforts including The Curse of Frankenstein, Dracula and The Devil Rides Out.

• High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) feature presentation
• Original uncompressed Mono 1.0 Audio
• Isolated Music and Effects Soundtrack
• Optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing
• New audio commentary with Hammer experts Marcus Hearn and Jonathan Rigby
• Release the Hound! – a brand new documentary looking at the genesis and making of the Hammer classic, featuring interviews with hound mask creator Margaret Robinson, film historian Kim Newman, actor/documentarian and co-creator of BBC’s Sherlock Mark Gatiss, and others
• André Morell: Best of British – a featurette looking at the late great actor André Morell and his work with Hammer
• The Many Faces of Sherlock Holmes – a 1986 documentary looking at the many incarnations of Conan Doyle’s celebrated character, narrated and presented by Christopher Lee
• Actor’s Notebook: Christopher Lee – an archive interview in which the actor looks back on his role as Sir Henry Baskerville
• The Hounds of the Baskervilles excerpts read by Christopher Lee
• Original Theatrical Trailer
• Extensive Image Gallery
• Reversible sleeve featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Paul Shipper
• Collector’s booklet featuring new writing on the film by former Hammer archivist Robert J.E. Simpson, illustrated with original archive stills and posters

"A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night" in UK cinemas May 22.

Studio Canal will be releasing the Iranian Vampire film "A Girl Walks Alone at Night" to selected UK cinemas May 22nd

Strange things are afoot in Bad City. The Iranian ghost town, home to prostitutes, junkie, pimps and other sordid souls, is a place that reeks of death and hopelessness, where a lonely vampire is stalking the towns most unsavoury inhabitants. But when boy meets girl, an unusual love story begins to blossom…blood red.

The first Iranian Vampire Western, Ana Lily Amirpour's debut feature basks in the sheer pleasure of pulp. A joyful mash-up of genre, archetype and iconography, its prolific influences span spaghetti westerns, graphic novels, horror films, and the Iranian New Wave. Amped by a mix of Iranian rock, techno and Morricone inspired riffs, its airy, anamorphic, black-and-white aesthetic and artfully drawn-out scenes combine the simmering tension of Sergio Leone with the weird surrealism of David Lynch.
