If you go down in the woods today you’re in for a big surprise, or rather everything you might expect from a low budget, indie slasher, in “My Little Sister”. Which is released to UK DVD this month from directors Maurizo and Roberto del Piccolo (Evil Souls).
A couple are back-packing through the woods, hoping to meet up with some friends who are out camping. But upon arriving at the site, all they find are empty tents and a creepy old guy warning them to turn around and go back.
Of course they don’t and proceed to start scouring the vicinity looking for them, whereupon they are set about by a chap in a mask, brandishing an axe and various other sharp implements and it becomes all to obvious as to what happened to their colleagues.
Guess they should have taken the creepy old guys advice.
Owing more than just a passing nod to the likes of Friday the 13th and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the film boasts some inventive kill scenes, in particular one involving a petrol powered strimmer/brush cutter, but on the whole was just a bit on the slow side for me, which wasn’t helped by the ‘average’ acting of the cast, which you come to expect with these low budget films and as such is only one I can recommend to lovers of low budget indie horrors.
The film is out now on UK DVD and VOD from Left films. The screener I viewed did not contain any extras, no news on whether the retail release will contain any supplemental material.
