Angus Scrimm, Phantasm's "Tall Man" - RIP

We are very sad to report that horror veteran Angus Scrimm, best known for his role as the central villain The Tall Man in the Phantasm series of films, passed away on Saturday 10th January, at the age of 89.

Scrimm had mostly appeared in minor, or supporting roles during his early career before being cast by Director Don Corscerrelli to play the Villainous Tall Man in his 1979 film about a decidedly unusual funeral home director, who robs graves with the help of an army of evil dwarves and flying killer balls.

He subsequently went on to star in a whole string of horror movies, including Chopping Mall, Subspecies and I Sell the Dead. He also had a reoccuring role in the TV show Alias, which ran from 2001-2005. His final film, which has yet to be released, saw him reprising the role that made him famous in Phantasm 5 : Ravager, which is currently in post-production.

His friend and long time collaborator Don Corscerrelli broke the news over the weekend via social media, saying..

“Angus Scrimm passed away peacefully tonight surrounded by his friends and loved ones. [His] performance as the Tall Man is a towering achievement in horror film history. He was the last in a long line of classic horror movie stars. He was a terrific actor and an even better friend. He will be missed.”

Phantasm 5 : Ravager should be out later this year. RIP Angus and thanks for all the films!
