BACURAU in UK cinemas March 2020

Curated global streaming service and theatrical film distributor MUBI is delighted to announce the UK theatrical release of the 2019 Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize Winner BACURAU in cinemas nationwide 13 March 2020, followed by an exclusive streaming launch on MUBI on 27 March 2020.

Bacurau, a small settlement in Brazil’s remote backcountry, is shaken by the death of its elderly matriarch. But something strange is happening in the village, and there’s little time for mourning. The water supply has been cut off, animals are stampeding through the streets, and empty coffins are turning up on the roadside. One morning, the villagers wake up to find their home has disappeared from satellite maps completely. Under threat from an unknown enemy, Bacurau braces itself for a bloody, brutal fight for survival.

With unforgettable performances from Bárbara Colen, Udo Kier and Sonia Braga, this is an audacious, original and spectacularly violent blend of neo-Western, revenge thriller and political allegory. Tipping its hat to Sergio Leone and John Carpenter, it’s a whirlwind of genre twists and surrealist turns guaranteed to leave you punch-drunk and reeling.

Following the critically-acclaimed NEIGHBOURING SOUNDS and AQUARIUS, Kleber Mendonça Filho shares directorial credit with long-time collaborator Juliano Dornelles in this uniquely hallucinatory and satirical parable.

BACURAU IS IN CINEMAS IN THE UK AND IRELAND FROM 13 MARCH 2020 AND COMING TO MUBI 27 MARCH 2020

EDGE OF THE AXE and HARPOON coming January from Arrow

Arrow Video’s January releases will deliver a much needed shiver of delight to film fans experiencing a post-festivities comedown. The releases are, as usual, packed with extras, including limited edition booklets with new writing on the films, newly-commissioned sleeve artwork, fascinating commentaries, and behind the scenes documentaries.

EDGE OF THE AXE - Limited Edition Slipcase Blu-ray released on 27 January

From cult Spanish filmmaker José Ramón Larraz (Vampyres, Symptoms) comes this long-neglected late 80s slasher classic, finally unleashed on Blu-ray for the first time ever!

The rural community of Paddock County is being rocked by the crazed exploits of an axe-wielding psychopath, who stalks the night in a black trenchcoat and mask. As the victims pile up, the authorities attempt to keep a lid on the situation, whilst computer whizz-kid Gerald and girlfriend Lillian seek to unmask the killer before the town population reaches zero.

Nominally set in Northern California but shot primarily in Madrid, giving the film an off-kilter, American/European atmosphere akin to the likes of Pieces, Edge of the Axe is a late entry hack-and-slash masterpiece from one of the titans of Spanish terror.

HARPOON – On Blu-ray 27 January

They say every story about love, friendship and betrayal extols a key lesson in virtue and morality. This is not one of those stories.

Jonah (Munro Chambers, Turbo Kid), Richard (Christopher Gray, TV’s The Mist) and Sasha (Emily Tyra, Code Black) have been friends a long time… maybe too long. Following a ferocious bust-up, Richard tries to make amends in the form of a sailing trip on his family yacht.

After all, a friendship is the kind of ship that never sinks – until the yacht breaks down and the trio are left stranded in the middle of the ocean. As food and water supplies start to sink and rivalries, dark secrets and sexual tension start to surface, the question becomes: which of these three broken humans will run out of air first?

Dubbed a “twisty little thriller” (Eye For Film) that “will appeal to horror lovers everywhere” (Love Horror), Harpoon is Edgar Allan Poe by way of Seinfeld and an exercise in brilliant pacing, direction and acting. As the story takes darkly comedic and always unexpected turns, the three leads crescendo into a culmination of their respective crises of conscience – except the crisis here is that they have no conscience. Welcome aboard!

Universal Pictures is delighted to debut the Official Trailer for The Invisible Man. Check it out below...

What you can’t see can hurt you. Emmy winner Elisabeth Moss (Us, TVs The Handmaid’s Tale) stars in a terrifying modern tale of obsession inspired by Universal’s classic monster character.

Trapped in a violent, controlling relationship with a wealthy and brilliant scientist, Cecilia Kass (Moss) escapes in the dead of night and disappears into hiding, aided by her sister (Harriet Dyer, The InBetween), their childhood friend (Aldis Hodge, Straight Outta Compton) and his teenage daughter (Storm Reid, Euphoria).

But when Cecilia’s abusive ex (Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House) commits suicide and leaves her a generous portion of his vast fortune, Cecilia suspects his death was a hoax. As a series of eerie coincidences turns lethal, threatening the lives of those she loves, Cecilia’s sanity begins to unravel as she desperately tries to prove that she is being hunted by someone nobody can see.

Hex Studios to release limited edition of festival hit "HERE COMES HELL"

Best described as 'The Old Dark House' meets 'The Evil Dead', the stylish horror-comedy is an homage to classic horror, with a bloody twist. Filmed in black and white, "HERE COMES HELL" follows the plight of a group of 1930s socialites attending a dinner party in a dilapidated mansion. Bloody mayhem ensues when their host coerces them into performing a séance, accidentally opening the gates of hell.

After premiering at Frightfest Glasgow, the film went on to screen at festivals across the globe including Screamfest LA and Sydney Film Festival, where it racked up rave reviews from audiences and critics alike, with SlashFilm dubbing it 'one of the most impressive feature debuts of the year' and The Daily Record calling it 'a wonderful celebration of the best of genre film-making'.

The release follows the success of Hex Studios' sell-out Limited Edition of arthouse horror 'Frankenstein's Creature'. According to Hex founder Lawrie Brewster, “Five minutes into the film we knew that 'Here Comes Hell' was a perfect fit for our DVD label.
