After being released from prison, Richard is given an opportunity to restart his life by a mysterious company who offer him five thousand dollars to spend six days in a dilapidated house to cleanse it of evil spirits. His handler assures him this is only to put any potential buyers’ superstitions to rest, and that he has nothing to fear.

But Richard’s sojourn is haunted by an inscrutable figure hiding in the corners of the house that seems to have a connection with his dark past. THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN - On Limited Edition 4K UHD

Before he created Westworld and Jurassic Park, Michael Crichton first blurred the line between science fiction and science fact with his breakout success The Andromeda Strain. Two years after the novel’s publication, Robert Wise (The Haunting) directed the film adaptation, a nail-biting blend of clinically-realised docudrama and astonishing sci-fi visuals that ushered in a new subgenre: the “killer virus” biological thriller.

A government satellite crashes outside a small town in New Mexico – and within minutes, every inhabitant of the town is dead, except for a crying baby and an elderly derelict. The satellite and the two survivors are sent to Wildfire, a top-secret underground laboratory equipped with a nuclear self-destruct mechanism to prevent the spread of infection in case of an outbreak.

Realising that the satellite brought back a lethal organism from another world, a team of government scientists race against the clock to understand the extraterrestrial virus – codenamed “Andromeda” – before it can wipe out all life on the planet.

Aided by innovative visual effects by Douglas Trumbull (2001: A Space Odyssey; Silent Running) and an unforgettable avant-garde electronic music score by Gil Mellé (The Sentinel), Wise’s suspense classic still haunts to this day, and is presented here in a stunning 4K restoration from the original negative.

NYX UK celebrates International Women’s Day on Saturday March 8, 9pm, with a Channel premiere screening of Devanny Pinn’s THE BLACK MASS, which takes a harrowing deep dive into the 1978 sorority house attacks committed by serial killer Ted Bundy. Pinn creates a bold and unflinching examination of real-world horror from the POV of the victims.

THE BLACK MASS

This is supported by the UK TV premiere of Luna Wolf’s powerful short film SIREN, which follows at 10.45pm. The film explores themes of identity and trauma, immersing the audience in a psychological horror journey through the human psyche.

RABID

On Saturday March 15, NYX UK also celebrates the birthday of the master of body horror David Cronenberg. This special tribute features SHIVERS (9pm) and RABID (11pm), two of his early films that helped define his signature style. Both films challenge conventional horror tropes by merging scientific advancements with nightmarish consequences, solidifying Cronenberg’s place as a visionary in the genre. His work remains as relevant and disturbing today as it was upon release.

NOSFERATU

Also celebrated, on Tues March 4, 9pm, is the 102nd birthday of NOSFERATU. This classic 1922 silent horror film, an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula, has become an iconic symbol of early cinema and spawned several remakes, including an Oscar-nominated 2024 version directed by Robert Eggers

NYX welcomes a new cult horror series onto the channel: THE CHAINSAW SALLY SHOW, a blood-soaked, grindhouse cult web series that stars April Burril as the iconic Sally, a small-town librarian by day and a relentless, chainsaw-wielding vigilante by night.  The first series of ten episodes will premiere on Fri March 7, 11.30pm.

Two other NYX UK horror series consolidate their popular runs. Thursday nights at 7pm sees the continuation of GALVASTON’S CAVERN OF CREEPS, hosted by snarky demon Galvaston. Season One continues with the Channel premieres of Jacques Tourneur’s NIGHT OF THE DEMON (1957) and Peter Weir’s directorial debut CARS THAT ATE PARIS (1974)

Then, on Tuesday nights at 9pm, we have the continuation of DARK REWIND, where August Kyss, a charismatic and quirky host, dives into classic 80s horror films from the comfort of her neon-lit bedroom. Season One continues with the Channel Premieres of tech-horror CHOPPING MALL (1986) and Canadian supernational slasher INCUBUS (1982).

There are six other Channel premieres this month, including Diego Cohen's 2015 Mexican obsession horror HONEYMOON (Thurs March 20, 9pm) and psychological horror tale DREAD, adapted by writer/director Anthony DiBlasi from the Clive Barker novella in ‘Books of Blood Volume II’, which screens on Fri March 21, 9pm
