Arrow Video presents "Killer Dames" - 23rd May

Arrow Video are thrilled to announce the release of Emilio P. Miraglia’s Italian giallo classics The Red Queen Kills Seven Times and The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave which premiere on dual format Blu-ray and DVD in this beautifully restored, limited edition collection released on 23rd May 2016.

At the height of the Italian giallo boom in the early 1970s, scores of filmmakers turned their hand to crafting their own unique takes on these lurid murder-mystery thrillers. This limited edition double pack features two distinctive offerings by Emilio P. Miraglia, which meld twisty whodunit narratives with gothic chills.

In The Red Queen Kills Seven Times, an age-old family curse hits sisters Kitty (Barbara Bouchet - Milano Calibro 9) and Franziska (Marina Malfatti) following the death of their grandfather Tobias (Rudolf Schündler - The Exorcist, Suspiria). Every hundred years, so the legend goes, the bloodthirsty Red Queen returns and claims seven fresh victims. Was Tobias just the first... and are Kitty and Franziska next?

Meanwhile, in The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave, troubled aristocrat Alan Cunningham (Anthony Steffen - Django the B*stard), haunted by the death of his first wife Evelyn, tries to move on by marrying the seductive Gladys (Marina Malfatti - All the Colours of the Dark). Marital bliss is short-lived, however, as various relatives meet untimely and gruesome deaths, prompting speculation that a vengeful Evelyn has risen from the grave...

With both films making their worldwide Blu-ray debuts in stunning new 2K restorations, there has never been a better time to explore these little-seen giallo gems!

"The Horde" - on US VOD May 6th - Review

Rambo meets The Hills Have Eyes in Jared Cohn’s “The Horde”, which is out in the US and Canada on VOD this month.

A college lecturer (Tiffany Brouwer – TVs American Horror Story) is taking her photography students on a weekend field trip to do some nature photography, along with her ex-Navy Seal boyfriend John (Paul Logan – Mega Piranha).

Unfortunately for the happy backpackers, no sooner does darkness fall then the group are attacked by horribly disfigured, mutant, inbred hillbillies. Who it turns out are remnants of the old town, that used to work in the old uranium mines (or something?) and are being led by some escaped criminals (including Costas Mandylor -  Saw 4-6) who've taken to hiding in with them.

With many of the students killed or captured, it's up to John to save the day as he goes into full survival mode, setting traps and taking them out with his trusty longbow and various sharp implements.

Not to be confused with the French zombie film of the same name from 2008, "The Horde" is obviously a film that borrows its plot from countless others. Like, The Hills Have Eyes, Deliverance and most notably the Wrong Turn films and mixes in elements from various action films, in particular the Rambo movies. But still proves to be a very fun, action packed, horror/survival film, which features lashing of over-the-top gore and some outrageous fight scenes.

Horror veteran Bill Moseley (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Devil's Rejects) turns up in a minor role as a redneck bartender, whilst Australian baddie Vernon Wells (Wez from Mad Max 2) also turns up as one of the mutant mountain men.

I actually really enjoyed this one, which proved to be a damnsite more entertaining than those terrible “Wrong Turn” sequels. So if you’re in the mood for watching a group of obnoxious, spoilt teens getting brutally butchered by mutant, backwoods mountain men, this one is recommended viewing!!!!

"The Horde" will be available on VOD outlets in the US and Canada from May 6th.

FILM NEWS: Female filmmaker takes the jugular with SEIZE THE NIGHT

Horror lovers will be pleased to hear that the highly anticipated vampires vs werewolves action-horror hybrid SEIZE THE NIGHT is now available to watch online for free.

SEIZE THE NIGHT has been one of the most talked about short films on the independent horror scene over the past year. In its time on the festival circuit the film has won creator Emma Dark an MMBF Rising Star award at Ireland’s The Yellow Fever Independent Film Festival, garnered favourable reviews from a multitude of respected genre websites including Dread Central, Starburst and UK Horror Scene, and featured in comprehensive national print articles in the UK’s leading horror magazine Scream, and indie filmmaking favourite Digital Filmmaker Magazine.  Wearing many hats on the project up-and-coming female filmmaker Emma Dark both Produced, Directed and edited the film, as well taking a starring role.

The plot revolves around renegade vampire assassin Eva (Emma Dark) who's recently escaped from a secret bio-research compound and is hell bent on taking revenge against those who put her there, including a pack of werewolves led by alpha Tobias (Carey Thring), and a secret government faction known only as Cable 9.

SEIZE THE NIGHT’s ambitious fight scenes were coordinated by semi-retired Hollywood stunt man Roy Scammell, who amongst a plethora of credits is responsible for fight coordination and stunt work on many of the James Bond films, Alien (1979), A Clockwork Orange (1971) and Superman (1978).  The film is further enhanced with digital visual effects from up and coming VFX artist Davy Simmons and a unique score from US based composer Eric Elick.

Emma had this to say about the film’s release...

“After a very successful stint on the festival circuit and a lot of media and critic support it’s finally time to press the button and unleash SEIZE THE NIGHT upon the world!  Myself and my cast and crew have put an absolutely incredible amount of work into the film so I do hope it’s well received, and that it does it’s part for raising awareness of female directors and filmmakers in a typically male dominated space.

There’s more to come with a limited DVD release for those who want to have their own copy of the film, and a whole host of behind the scenes extras I’ll be posting up over the coming weeks.  Until then I hope everyone enjoys watching SEIZE THE NIGHT.”

First Look at the Fall Of The Queen Of Vampires #4 (of 7)

ARH Studios is announcing the 4th issue of their talked-about hit-series QUEEN OF VAMPIRES.

Arahom Radjah is proud of the achievements so far and tells this about the issue at hand: "The point I would like to stress most for this issue would be the FALL OF ARKHALLA. This issue is all about the moment she realizes her feelings for SHAMATH which is also the same moment she finds herself betrayed by everyone, including SHAMATH himself.  This is for me the most interesting aspect of this chapter, how things can change so suddenly and so much from one moment to another.

This is something I’m bringing from my own personal life experiences into the stories I’m writing. You will see the same also happening in the ASTRIA comics. Your entire life can change in a split of a second, and you can’t even foresee it coming.

The other important thing is how SHAMATH became Arkhalla's savior. If we look back at the first pages of issue #1, we see ARKHALLA sparing his life without even realizing that he would save her life so many times and in so many ways.

In issue #5 (not spoiling it!) the readers will see ARKHALLA telling SHAMATH that he has saved her in many ways. This is the realization of all the wrongs she has done her whole existence and of what she actually became as a Vampire Queen. We infused a lot of depth in this story, and as I said before, the last three chapters are extremely touching and emotional.  I can’t read chapter #5 without having tears in my eyes, and the ending of the 7-issue miniseries, is in my opinion, one of the most romantic and beautiful endings I have ever seen. A truly Hollywood worthy masterpiece!"
