HELLRAISER and Cult Fulci titles coming in Oct from Arrow.

Arrow Video’s October lineup includes four HELLRAISER films in all-new 4K restorations from the original camera negatives, and a limited edition UHD of Fulci’s THE HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY.

HELLRAISER : QUARTET OF TORMENT - On Limited Edition 4K UHD

In HELLRAISER Hedonist Frank Cotton (Sean Chapman) finds a mysterious puzzle box will take him to a dominion where pain and pleasure are indivisible and summoning the Cenobites, whose experiments will tear Frank’s soul apart.

When he manages to escape, Frank returns to the world skinless and in need of help. Now his former lover Julia (Clare Higgins) must kill to make him whole again; but the Cenobites want Frank back, and there’ll be hell to pay when they find him.

HELLBOUND: HELLRAISER II expands on Barker’s original vision as screenwriter Peter Atkins takes Julia Cotton, her step daughter Kirsty (Ashley Laurence) and the sinister Dr. Channard (Kenneth Cranham) into the dominion of the Cenobites themselves.

HELLRAISER III: HELL ON EARTH sees Pinhead set loose on the sinful streets of New York City to create chaos with a fresh cadre of Cenobitic kin.

Meanwhile, HELLRAISER: BLOODLINE sinks its hooks into past, present and future as it tells the story of Phillip LeMarchand, the 18th century toymaker who made the Lament Configuration puzzle box; his descendent John Merchant, a 20th century architect whose most recent building bears a striking resemblance to the Lament Configuration; and Dr. Paul Merchant, a 22nd century engineer and designer of The Minos, a space station that is a great deal more than it seems.

THE EXORCIST: BELIEVER - In UK Cinemas Friday the 13th Oct

Exactly 50 years ago this autumn, the most terrifying horror film in history landed on screens, shocking audiences around the world. Now, on Friday, 13th October, a new chapter begins. From Blumhouse and director David Gordon Green, who shattered the status quo with their resurrection of the Halloween franchise, comes THE EXORCIST: BELIEVER.

Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Leslie Odom Jr. - One Night in Miami, Hamilton) has raised their daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett - Good Girls) on his own.

But when Angela and her friend Katherine (newcomer Olivia Marcum), disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil.

For the first time since the 1973 film, Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn reprises her iconic role as Chris MacNeil, an actress who has been forever altered by what happened to her daughter Regan five decades before.

The film also stars Emmy winner Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale, Hereditary) as Victor and Angela’s neighbor, and Grammy winner Jennifer Nettles (Harriet, The Righteous Gemstones) and two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz (Fosse/Verdon, Bloodline) as the parents of Katherine, Angela’s friend.

When The Exorcist, based on the best-selling book by William Peter Blatty, was released, it changed the culture forever, obliterating box office records and earning 10 Academy Award nominations, becoming the first horror film ever nominated for Best Picture.

THE EXORCIST: BELIEVER is directed by David Gordon Green from a screenplay by Peter Sattler (Camp X-Ray) and David Gordon Green, from a story by Scott Teems (Halloween Kills), Danny McBride (Halloween trilogy) and David Gordon Green, based on characters created by William Peter Blatty.

The film is produced by Jason Blum for Blumhouse and by David Robinson and James G. Robinson for Morgan Creek Entertainment.

First films announced for this years Mayhem Film Festival in Nottingham this October

Mayhem Film Festival is proud to announce the first three films of this year’s edition which will take place at Broadway, Nottingham on 12-15 October 2023. LOOP TRACK, WHERE THE DEVIL ROAMS and THE FACULTY.

First up is the UK Premiere of Thomas Sainsbury’s directorial debut, LOOP TRACK. A man on the verge of a nervous breakdown decides to remove himself from society by going on a hike in the wilderness, only to be reluctantly befriended by a group of hikers and unable to shake the feeling that something sinister might be stalking him. Some may recognise Sainsbury from his role as Constable Parker in New Zealand hit-show Wellington Paranormal. With Loop Track, he delivers an incredibly surprising film that cleverly builds a sense of dread and paranoia.

Next, Mayhem is excited to screen the new film from the Adams family, WHERE THE DEVIL ROAMS. Following Hellbender (Mayhem 2021), one of the coolest families in horror returns with their most ambitious title yet. Set during Depression-era America, the film traces a family of murderous sideshow performers as they travel the dying carnival circuit. The Adams family continues to explore the intricacies of family dynamics in this haunting, violent and truly original new film.

To round-up this first wave of announcements, Mayhem will be presenting a 25th anniversary screening of Robert Rodriguez’ THE FACULTY. Featuring an all-star cast, this sci-fi horror is a mini-classic of the millennial era, in which a group of students must face the alien parasite that decided to inhabit their high school’s teachers.

Mayhem Co-Director Steven Sheil says: "We're really looking forward to returning to Broadway Cinema for our 19th annual edition, and delighted to be bringing some more of the weirdest, bloodiest, scariest and shocking-est slices of world genre cinema to our audience."

Coinciding with Mayhem is the return of an accompanying exhibition in Broadway's Gallery. Last year’s Monsters Within exhibition was produced as part of In Dreams Are Monsters: A Season of Horror Films, a UK-wide film season supported by the National Lottery and BFI Film Audience Network. It proved to be a success with festival audiences and for the many local artists exhibiting and selling their creative works.

This year, Mayhem invites artists back once more to share their interpretations of iconic characters, creatures and memorable moments from horror/cult cinema. A limited number of original artworks, editions and prints will be available to buy in the Gallery. The exhibition is curated and produced by Broadway’s Near Now with Nottingham artist Rachel Parry. For more information on how artists can submit work for inclusion in the exhibition, please visit www.nearnow.org.uk/gallery

Early Bird Passes for the festival will go on sale on at 10am on Friday 28 July. For £75, Early Bird Passes give you access to all films and events for the four days of the festival. They will be available to purchase from Broadway’s website and box office.

More information and announcements about Mayhem’s 19th edition will follow later in the summer.

Mayhem Film Festival will take place at Broadway, Nottingham on 12 – 15 October 2023. For more information, please visit http://www.mayhemfilmfestival.com/

Mad medics, sinister surgeons and psychopathic psychiatrists…FrightFest and FAB Press once again join forces to exclusively launch THE FRIGHTFEST GUIDE TO MAD DOCTOR MOVIES, which goes on sale during FrightFest 2023. The author, practising surgeon Dr. John Llewellyn Probert, will be present, with official signings taking place at Cineworld, Leicester Square on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 August.

Ever since the dawn of cinema, filmmakers have been depicting on screen the potential outcomes of medical madness and science gone sick. Everything seems normal but in reality, he is a frustrated and perverted man who indulges in several disturbing sexual fetishes including unspeakable acts in his private life. His perversion will push him to take his horrible fantasies out of his home to the outside world.

Carsten Frank also stays in contact with the spanish filmmaker Jesús Franco (Vampiros Lesbos), the german actress Katja Bienert (El tesoro de la diosa blanca), the italian actor Peter Martell (Death Walk at Midnight) and the American actor David Hess (The Last House on the Left).

Bonus Features: Opus Hominis 2 (short); Es geschah in Gotha (short); Carnophage (short); Photogallery; Original trailer.

THE GATES (2023) - A Review

Shocker meets Jack the Ripper in Victorian London in the supernatural chiller THE GATES, which is available now from UK Digital outlets.

Set in the early 1890s and serial killer William Colcott (Richard Brake - Barbarian, 3 From Hell) becomes the first, and only, British prisoner to be executed by the new experimental method of electrocution.

But when fellow prisoners at the jail, as well as some of the guards, start dieing under very mystrerious circumstances. They begin to suspect that Colcott's dabblings in the occult may have something to do with it and he may not be quite as dead as they first suspected.

Post mortem photographer Frederick Ladbroke (John Rhys-Davies - Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Lord of the Rings trilogy) and his assistant Emma Wickes (Elena Delia - House of Shadows) think they may have captured something in one of their photos of the deceased and end up assisting a bizarre psychic medium (Michael Yare - TV's Line of Duty) and the prison chaplain in trying to exorcise Colcott's spirit from the prison, before the evil can spread beyond it's walls.

As mentioned earlier, the film was very reminiscent of Wes Craven's 1989 film Shocker, albeit set in Victorian London. Though competantly filmed and well acted, which defintely benefits from the inclusion of John Rhys-Davies and Richard Brake, the film isn't really all that scary and, aside from a small number of gory scenes, felt more like a period drama one could typically see on the TV on a Sunday afternoon.

If you enjoyed the likes of The Woman in Black, you should probably enjoy this. But most mainstream horror fans may find it a bit slow (nit pickers will also note that the electric chair was never used in the UK).

THE GATES is available now from all good Digital outlets, courtesy of 101 films.
